“My purpose was, in a whimsical kind of masque, which the good humor of the season jusfied, to awaken some loving and forbearing thoughts, never out of season in a Chrisan land.” - Charles Dickens Charles Dickens wrote these words in the preface of a collecon of books known as ‘Christmas Books’ to describe his purpose and intenons in wring such stories as ‘A Christmas Carol’. It’s encouraging to know that this classic of the Christmas season sought to ‘awaken some loving and forbear- ing thoughts’. That’s our desire as well in pung together such a producon to share with the community. While this producon is not overtly Chrisan in label, there are numerous redempve themes that we will be introducing in the play and exploring through the sermon series. We are well on our way. The cast is working diligently rehearsing their lines, the publicity team is geng the word out (including yard signs that will be handed out this Sunday), the costumes are being fied, the scenery is being designed and the pastors are laying out the sermon series. It’s a wonderful thing to see this come together. Now, it’s me for your part…to invite someone to one of the shows. Begin to pray, pay aenon to those you are in contact with on a regular basis and tell them about the show and perhaps even buy a cket for someone as a giſt. Again, we have a great opportunity to invest in others with more than a show, but with a relaonship. It’s an excing me for us as a church. Let’s prepare ourselves in prayer for those God will bring into our fellowship and more importantly into a relaonship with Christ. Let’s be ready to welcome and love people in the name of Christ. “My purpose was, in a whimsical kind of masque, which the good humor of the season justified, to awaken some loving and forbearing thoughts, never out of season in a Christian land.” - Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens wrote these words in the preface of a collection of books known as ‘Christmas Books’ to describe his purpose and intentions in writing such stories as ‘A Christmas Carol’.

It’s encouraging to know that this classic of the Christmas season sought to ‘awaken some loving and forbear-ing thoughts’. That’s our desire as well in putting together such a production to share with the community. While this production is not overtly Christian in label, there are numerous redemptive themes that we will be introducing in the play and exploring through the sermon series.

We are well on our way. The cast is working diligently rehearsing their lines, the publicity team is getting the word out (including yard signs that will be handed out this Sunday), the costumes are being fitted, the scenery is being designed and the pastors are laying out the sermon series. It’s a wonderful thing to see this come together.

Now, it’s time for your part…to invite someone to one of the shows. Begin to pray, pay attention to those you are in contact with on a regular basis and tell them about the show and perhaps even buy a ticket for someone as a gift. Again, we have a great opportunity to invest in others with more than a show, but with a relationship.

It’s an exciting time for us as a church. Let’s prepare ourselves in prayer for those God will bring into our fellowship and more importantly into a relationship with Christ. Let’s be ready to welcome and love people in the name of Christ.

Praying for you and with you,

Pastor Dan

Family Storybooks for Advent

NEW THIS YEAR: Tabitha’s Travels — Curious,

competent, and courageous Tabitha is the daughter of a

shepherd who is taking his family to his birthplace. She

befriends both Jotham and Bartholomew along the way,

watches as Romans take her father prisoner, spends time

with Zechariah and Elizabeth, helps Mary and Joseph just

before Christ’s birth, and ends her travels at the stable in

Bethlehem. Continuing the tradition of the popular

Jotham’s Journey and Bartholomew’s Passage, this capti-

vating story will take you and your family through Advent to Christmas with day-by-

day readings and advice for making Christmas a meaningful season of worship.

Available for purchase at the Info Center for $9.00 each.

We still have two each of the previous books in the series:

Jotham’s Journey — A widely popular, exciting story for the advent

season, readers follow ten-year-old Jotham across Israel as he

searches for his family. Though he faces thieves, robbers, and kid-

nappers, Jotham also encounters the wise men, shepherds, and inn-

keepers until at last he finds his way to the Savior born in Bethlehem.

Bartholomew’s Passage — An engaging story that guides families

through the Advent season. Young Bartholomew's adventures start

when Roman soldiers destroy his village and disperse his family,

continue through his enslavement to a tyrannical master and his

escape with his new friend Nathan, and end with a reunion with his

family in Bethlehem. Along the way Bartholomew makes a new

friend, a young boy named Jotham!

Thank you for stepping up to this challenge! We encourage you to prayerfully consider your additional giving for the final 7 weeks of the year to help us start 2016 strong.

Please be prayerful regarding your part in the Ten for 16 Challenge. You can give on our website at eatoncob.org, SimpleGive.
