So, if you have a dream where you are drowning, it is a clear sign that you are letting your feelings make decisions for you. Your dreaming mind is encouraging you to learn how to manage your emo- tions better. YOUR HOME Houses in dreams represent your inner life. So, if your dream house is damaged or destroyed, it suggests you are not taking good care of yourself. Your emotional health is at risk. The flip side is that dreams about dis- covering new spaces in your home, or about home improvements, suggest that some aspect of your waking life is improving. D o you ever have dreams that are so vivid they feel real? Un- like most dreams, which we forget as soon as we wake, this sort of dream will remain clear in your mind for days, weeks or even years. However, there is a reason why some dreams stay with you for longer than others. According to dream expert Theresa Cheung, your dreaming mind is trying to tell you something important about your wak- ing life. Here are 8 common dreams that reveal something important: Your dreams are symbolic of what is going on in your life or mind. Here are some common dreams that have been decoded MIND AND MORE If you find yourself in an out-of-control vehicle in a dream, whether or not you are driving, this suggests that events in your life are in danger of getting out of control. It’s time for you to get in the driver’s seat or, if you are the driv- er, to drive more skilfully. PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES NATURAL DISASTERS It can be frightening in dreams when you are confronted by natural disasters. These can signal personal problems raging out of control in your life. Your dreaming mind no longer wants you to ignore them. DEATH OR ILLNESS Your death in a dream can symbolise your desire to escape the responsibilities and burden of life. If you dream about a death that is accidental, it can suggest that some part of you isn’t functioning and you need to make changes. It is actually symbolic of new beginnings. The late artist Salvador Dali had confessed to often dreaming of Adolf Hitler as a woman Author Stephen King has said that he gets the ideas for some of his nov- els in his dreams BURIED ALIVE If you are buried alive in a dream and feel powerless to scream or breathe, it can be a sign that there is confusion or conflict in your life. You urgently need to find a way to escape restrictions and get a new perspective on the situation you are in. UNABLE TO MOVE Being unable to move in a dream, either getting stuck in something or paralysed? It suggests you are feeling stifled about your responsi- bilities, or you are unable to express your true feelings. SUPERHERO Dreaming that you are a superhero shows that there is so much more to you than you realise. It shows your hidden potential and aspirations. 5 Skincare regimen needs an overhaul with the changing season. When winter approaches, you need to up your beauty game. Bollywood actors do it too, and here’s how they keep glowing – come sunshine or snow HAVE WATER Drink 7-8 glasses of water daily to keep your skin hydrated. CELEB SPEAK: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan attributes her glowing skin to having lots of water. SUNSCREEN IS A MUST Sunscreen is a guarantee for youthful skin. Be it rain or sunshine, make sure your skin is nicely smothered with sunscreen (yes, even in winter). Apply it 15 minutes prior to going out in the sun so the skin absorbs it well. Use it on all exposed areas. CELEB SPEAK: Kajol never leaves home without applying sunscreen. MOISTURISE A LOT Make sure you mois- turise your skin at least two times – morning and before going to bed. This is especially important in dry winter months. CELEB SPEAK: Kiara Advani is an advocate of using skin cream liberally. Exercise regularly if you want your skin to glow. Workout helps improve blood circulation and keeps skin clear. CELEB SPEAK: Katrina Kaif never misses her workout and her dewy looking skin is proof. GIFT WRAPPING gets SUSTAINABLE How you present your gifts matter. Here are new eco-friendly trends for the festive season T he trend in gift wrapping this season is towards jazzy yet sus- tainable options. Consider beautifully fold- ed fabrics or brown or green masking paper topped with colourful washi tape or sprigs of green instead of easily crushed store-bought paper wrapping. “There’s a lot of fun stuff going on in gift wrap these days,’’ says Amy Panos, editor at a homes and gardens magazine. “People still like paper, of course, but there’s a lot of interesting wrap- ping for gifts in fabric,’’ she says. T here’s the Japanese technique of ‘furoshiki’, in which the wrapping cloth becomes part of the gift. “Or you can use a scarf or pretty tea towel, then fold it like origami,’’ Panos says. Tenugui cloth, similar to furoshiki but rectangular instead of square, can also be used as an alternative to tradi- tional gift wrapping. As with origami, there are books showing how to wrap gifts in cloth, a gift- wrapping solution in Japan for centuries. Furoshiki come in various sizes, fabrics and patterns. For unusually large gifts — and an easier wrapping job — decorative pillowcases are a good option. JAPANESE ART OF WRAPPING GOOD OLD BOXES P retty boxes are another great and reusable way to present a gift. Boxes can also be embellished with stick-on rhinestones. As much thought should go into the gift wrapping as into the gift itself. “That way, the wrapping can be a part of the gift or can be reused,’’ explains Panos. Many people still prefer paper of course, but Panos says that the aesthetic is changing. It’s a good idea to use old vintage jewellery boxes for gift- ing earrings or other accessories; then the box also becomes an important part of the gift. D ecorative washi tape, which comes in a wide range of patterns and colours, is a trendy alternative to ribbon. Masking paper, which is typically green, is another good alternative to wrapping paper. To save on gift tags, Panos suggests using pretty scraps of leftover paper. WASHI TAPE, NOT RIBBON! Brown bags with sprigs of greenery is a green idea. You can decorate gift box with decoupage – the art of decorating an object by gluing coloured paper cut-outs with special paint effects and gold leaf.
