What if... it went the other way?

The role of Han Solo was passed on by several actors such as Al Pacino, Christopher Walken, Nick Nolte, Burt Reynolds, Kurt Russell, Sylvester Stal-lone, and James Caan. Good thing too because “the force” might not have been right if Harrison Ford was not tapped for the role. Fact is, Ford was working as one of the carpenters on the set when he auditioned for the role. Some call it luck, but we believe it’s called destiny.

Star Wars almost didn’t make it to the big screen. In fact, the script and story alone almost didn’t even lift off the ground. United Artists and Universal Studios both turned down George Lucas when they were first ap-proached to finance the film. Call it luck or destiny again, but then 20th Century Fox Ex-ecutive Allan Ladd Jr decided to gamble on the movie and, wow, did they hit the jackpot!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wud-NasQbv0

Wow! Can you imagine any other actor besides Michael J. Fox playing the role of Marty McFly in the iconic movie franchise “Back to the Future”? But it’s true! Another actor by the name of Eric Stoltz (shown above) has al-ready began shooting for the role until both producer and director agreed Stoltz is far too serious for the role which is supposed to be a futuristic-comedy film. They have to re-shoot five weeks of scenes and added $3 million (!) to the budget. But they were proven right and, as they say, the rest is history!

iPad ConceptThis is an iPad concept that is too good to be true. However, I wouldn’t put it past the developers to come up with something like this in the near future... ummmm, like tomorrow! Anyway, if this concept comes to bearing, from any tablet whatsoever, it’s a gigantic breakthrough and it will sure make the laptops and desk-top computers less promising to use.

Heads Up for

HealthierBrains

Taking Charge of Your Brain Health Be Socially ActiveThe human brain, sometimes called the “3 pound universe within,” is one of your most

vital organs. It plays a role in every action and every thought and just like the rest of your

body, it needs to be looked after. By making healthy lifestyle choices now, you may be

able to reduce your risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and improve your brain’s ability

to sustain long-term health.

This sheet is part of a series that provides practical action steps, based on current research,

which you can take to improve your brain health. Will it prevent Alzheimer’s disease?

There are no guarantees, but healthy lifestyle choices will help keep your brain as

healthy as possible as you age. And since a healthier brain can withstand illness better,

it’s important to take action on the things you can control -- lifestyle choices.

Staying connected socially helps you stay connected mentally. Researchshows that people who regularly interact with others maintain their

brain function better than those who don’t. Socializing appears tohave a protective effect that may help lessen your risk of developingAlzheimer’s disease.

Maintain old friendships and make new ones. Stay socially activethrough work, volunteer activities, travel, hobbies, family and friends.

Be open to new experiences.

Staying active and involved with life sends healthy messages to your brain and body.Being involved with others also helps to reduce stress, boost mood and keep relationships strong.

In ancient Greece, Socrates was reputed to be held in high es-teem because of his knowledge. One day an acquaintance met

the great philosopher and said, “Do you know what I just heard about your friend?”“Hold on a minute,” Socrates replied. “Before tell-ing me anything I`d like you to pass a little test. It‘s called the Triple Filter Test.

“Triple filter?”

“That`s right,” Socrates continued. “Before you talk to me about my friend, it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what you‘re go-ing to say. That‘s why I call it the triple filter test. The first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?”

“No,” the man said, “actually I just heard about it and...”

“All right,” said Socrates. “So you don`t really

WHEN GOSSIP TEMPTSknow if it`s true or not. Now let‘s try the sec-ond filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?”

“No, on the contrary...”

“So,” Socrates continued, “you want to tell me something bad about him, but you‘re not certain it‘s true. You may still pass the test though, be-cause there‘s one filter left: the filter of Useful-ness. Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?”

“No, not really.”

“Well,” concluded Socrates, “if what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?”

This is why Socrates was a great philosopher & held in such high esteem. Friends, use this triple filter each time you hear loose talk about any of your friends.

A wealthy older woman decides to go

on a photo safari to Africa, and takes her faithful aged poodle, Cuddles, along for the company. One day the poo-dle starts chas-ing butterflies and before long, Cuddles discov-ers that he’s lost. Wandering about, he notices a young leopard

heading rapidly in his direction with

the intention of hav-ing him for lunch.

The old poodle thinks, ‘Oh, oh!

I’m in deep trouble!’

Noticing some bones on the ground

You Don’t Say...

You Don’t Say...close by, he immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat. Just as the leop-ard is about to pounce, the old poodle exclaims loudly, “Boy, that was one delicious leopard! I wonder if there are any more around here?”

Hearing this, the young leopard halts his attack in mid-strike. A look of ter-ror comes over him and he quietly slinks away into the trees. “Whew!” says the leopard, “That was close! That old poodle nearly had me for lunch!”

Meanwhile, a monkey, who had been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree, figures he can put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the leopard. So off he goes. But the old poodle sees him heading after the leopard with great speed, and figuring that something must be up, follows in pursuit.

The monkey soon catches up with the leopard, spills the beans and strikes a deal for himself with the leopard. The young leopard is furious at being made

a fool of and says, “Here, monkey. Hop on my back and come see what’s going to happen to that conniving canine!”

Now the old poodle sees the leopard com-ing with the monkey on his back and thinks, “What am I going to do now?” But instead of running, the dog sits down with his back to his attacker, pretending he doesn’t see them.

Just when they get close enough to hear, the old poodle says with an impatient voice, “Where the heck is that monkey? I sent him off over an hour ago to bring me another leopard!”

The moral of this story... Don’t mess with old folks! Age and wisdom will always overcome youth and skill! Bull and brilliance only come with age and experience.

The TableclothT

he brand new pastor and his wife, newly assigned to their first ministry, to reopen a church in suburban Brooklyn, arrived in early October excited about their opportuni-ties. When they saw their church, it was very run down

and needed much work. They set a goal to have everything done in time to have their first service on Christmas Eve.

They worked hard, repairing pews, plas-tering walls, painting, etc., and on December 18 were ahead of schedule and just about finished.

On December 19 a terrible tempest - a driving rainstorm hit the area and lasted for two days.

His heart sank when he saw that the roof had leaked, causing a large area of plas-ter about 20 feet by 8 feet to fall off the front wall of the sanctuary just behind the pulpit, beginning about head high.

The pastor cleaned up the mess on the floor, and not knowing what else to do but postpone the Christmas Eve service, headed home.

On the way he noticed that a local business was having a flea market type sale for char-ity so he stopped in. One of the items was a beautiful, handmade, ivory colored, cro-cheted tablecloth with exquisite work, fine colors and a Cross embroidered right in the center. It was just the right size to cover up the hole in the front wall. He bought it and headed back to the church.

By this time it had started to snow. An older woman running from the opposite direction was trying to catch the bus.. She missed it. The pas-tor invited her to wait in the warm church for the next bus 45 minutes later.

She sat in a pew and paid no attention to the pas-tor while he got a ladder, hangers, etc.,to put up the tablecloth as a wall tapestry.

The pastor could hardly believe how beautiful it looked and it covered up the entire problem area.

Then he noticed the woman walking down the center aisle. Her face was like a sheet “Pastor,” she asked, “where did you get that tablecloth?”

The pastor explained. The woman asked him to check the lower right corner to see if the initials, EBG were crocheted into it there. They were. These were the initials of the woman, and she had made this tablecloth 35 years before, in Austria.

The woman could hardly believe it as the pastor told how he had just gotten the Tablecloth. The woman explained that before the war she and her husband were well-to-do people in Austria.

When the Nazis came, she was forced to leave. Her husband was going to follow her the next week. He was cap-tured, sent to prison and never saw her husband or her home again.

The pastor wanted to give her the tablecloth; but

When there is nothing left but God, that is when you find out

that God is all you need.

she made the pastor keep it for the church. The pastor insisted on driving her home, that was the least he could do. She lived on the other side of Staten Island and was only in Brooklyn for the day for a housecleaning job.

What a wonderful service they had on Christmas Eve. The church was almost full. The music and spirit were great. At the end of the service, the pastor and his wife greeted everyone at the door and many said that they would return.

One older man, whom the pastor recognized from the neighborhood continued to sit in one of the pews and stare, and the pastor wondered why he wasn’t leaving.

The man asked him where he got the tablecloth on the front wall be-cause it was identical to one that his wife had made years ago when they lived in Austria be-fore the war and how could there be two tablecloths so much alike.

He told the pastor how the Nazis came, how he forced his wife to flee for her safety and he was supposed to follow her, but he was arrested and put in a prison. He never saw his wife or his home again all the 35 years in between.

The pastor asked him if he would allow him to take him for a little ride. They drove to Staten Island and to the same house where the pastor had taken the woman three days earlier.

He helped the man climb the three flights of stairs to the woman’s apartment, knocked on the door and he saw the greatest Christmas reunion he could ever imagine.

by Pastor Rob Reid Who says God does not work in mysterious ways.

When the road you’re traveling on seems difficult at best. Just remember, pray and God will do the rest.

What’s Not To Like?

• However good or bad a situation is, it will change.• Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

• Believe in miracles.

• God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn’t do.• Don’t audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

• Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.

• Your children get only one childhood.• All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

Life’s

Life’s Lesson Part III

• Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

• If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else’s, we’d grab

ours back.• Envy is a waste of time. You

already have all you need.

• The best is yet to come.• No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, and show up.

• Yield.

• Life isn’t tied with a bow; but, it’s still a gift.

Urinary tract infections affect up to half of all women and are responsible for untold

numbers of doctor visits each year.Women are more prone to urinary tract infec-tions than men, because of their shorter ure-thras. Adult men have a bacterial growth inhibi-tor injected directly by their prostate glands.

You’ve probably heard that drinking cranberry juice can be helpful in supporting a healthy urinary tract. Studies do show that cranberry juice can help by promoting a healthy flora. What many studies fail to mention is that most cranberry juice is loaded with fructose, that can potentially lead to health problems.

So, in effect, you are trading good urinary health for blood sugar instability, stress on your liver, and increased uric acid levels that can raise negative health sequelae.

But there is a great discovery that has come from the cranberry juice-urinary tract con-nection. The active ingredient in cranberry juice responsible for its benefit to your urinary

system has been identified and that is D-man-nose. D-mannose can be derived from berries, peaches, apples, and some other plants. Pure D-mannose is amazingly 10-50 times stronger than cranberry, non-toxic and completely safe, with NO adverse effects.

Why drink sugary cranberry juice if you can get the active ingredient instead, with none of the damaging metabolic consequences?

D-mannose can help cure more than 90 per-cent of all UTIs within 1 to 2 days!

A new study supports the theory that at least 36 milligrams of proanthocyanidins (PAC) are needed to reduce the adhesion of E. coli bacteria to urinary tract walls. A lower dose proved to be less effective.

However, according to NutraIngredients: “On the other hand, a higher dose of 72 mg was even more efficient at protecting against bac-terial adhesion in the urinary tract, according to findings in the open-access journal BMC Infectious Diseases.”

Your 30’s, 40’s and 50’s won’t feel like your 30’s, 40’s and 50’s – Adults are just older chil-dren. When you get older you won’t feel as old as you imagine you will. For the most part, you still feel exactly the way you feel right now, just a little wiser and more confident.

Bad things will happen to you and your friends – People lose jobs, get in car accidents and some-times die. When you’re younger, this harsh reality can be hard to visualize.

Everyone can make a huge difference – Making one person smile can change the world. Maybe not the whole world, but their world. So start small and start now.

Big results come when you narrow your focus – Concentrate your efforts on smaller and smaller areas. When your efforts are diffused over a wide area they won’t have much of an impact.

Little things stick with you – So pay attention to them. Like watching your child sleep. Preparing a meal with your family. Sharing a great laugh with an old friend. This is the real stuff life is made of.

Sometimes you just have to go for it – In 40 years from now what will you regret not having accomplished, appreciated or attempted? Do it, appreciate it and attempt it NOW!

Not much is worth fighting about – If you can avoid it, don’t fight. Step back from arguments. Let yourself calm down. You don’t have to be right or win an argument. It just doesn’t matter.

Don’t try to impress everyone – Purposely im-pressing people brings nothing but a momentary ego boost. Be real with people instead. Connect with people on a deeper level.

Less advice is often the best advice – People don’t need lots of advice, they need to live. I’ve seen rocky relationships develop into wonderful marriages and fleeting inspirations ignite a life-time of passion and happiness. We all need time to think to explore the undirected journeys that will help us find our direction.

Love yourself. Become your own priority – Strive to be the ‘you’ you want to be.

Things Your Dad Was

Right About

Sometimes, what you think is “crazy”, is in reality, the truth...

FACT: A calorie is roughly the amount of food energy it takes a 150 pound person to burn over the course of one minute while resting.

There are two things to consider aside from com-paring calories from different foods:

3 The nutri-tional value of the food

3The speed of digestion

Do different types of calories matter?

CALORIES from Bad Carbs: Refined Flour and SugarWe’re referring to easily digested, starchy carbs such as white bread, pasta, potatoes, donuts, or

french fries. The quick digestion causes a

rapid spike in blood sugar in com-parison to calo-ries from other foods.

The rapid spike in glu-cose also causes a rapid

surge in your body’s insulin, which controls

blood sugar. By the way, this is one reason why

overweight people end up with diabetes.

To add insult to injury, your body starts sending out hunger signals, and guess what....

You end up eating again (which makes you fat)!CALORIES from Saturated FatThe diet that promotes eat-ing fatty foods that are high in protein, but eliminates carbs altogether is partially a good idea since you’re cutting out the ‘bad carbs’, but there’s one thing you have to keep in mind:

Eating a diet loaded with fatty foods such as ba-con, sausage, and other red meats will have a terrible toll on your health. If you want to die of a heart attack early this would be the diet for you.

THE BEST STRATEGYFor weight loss and optimal health, the best strategy would be to avoid fatty foods and eat a diet that consists of only the right kinds of fats and carbs - whole grain products, beans, nuts, fruits, vegetables, lean poultry and fish.

The slow digestive quality of these complex car-bohydrates help keep you full, and since you’re not pigging out on saturated fat, you’re also keep-ing your body healthy.

hit it to the limit!

The First Sip of a Beverage When You’re Thirsty. You just finished mow-ing the lawn or taking a jog. The only thing on your mind is an ice-cold glass of water. When you’re re-ally, really thirsty, that first sip of any liquid beverage is sheer bliss.

Receiving a Real Letter or Package via Snail Mail. Email has become our primary commu-nication. When you check the mail and find a real letter or package from some-one you know, excitement overtakes you as you tear into this rare gift.

Finding Money You Didn’t Know You Had. You reach into your pocket and find a $20 bill from the last time you wore these jeans. You aren’t rich, but you are richer than you were a second earlier.

Making Brief Eye Contact with Someone of the Opposite Sex. You pass him on the street or in the subway. Just for a moment you make direct eye contact in a way that seems to communicate a sub-tle curiosity. For a split second it makes you think… and then it’s gone.

Most Satisfying

Saying the Same Thing Simultaneously. There is a moment of si-lence. Then all of the sudden you and your friend blurt out the same exact set of words simultane-ously. This rare occurrence is something to smile about.

Simple Pleasures

Life is filled with simple pleasures, the little satisfying effects you never really anticipate, but always take great pleasure in. They are the gifts of life that we

each celebrate in our own unique way.

Putting On Clothes Straight from the Dryer. As soon as the dryer buzz-es, you pull out your clothes and put them on. They feel soothingly warm on your skin and emit a fresh-scented aroma into the air.

A Familiar Smell. You pull into your par-ent’s driveway and opened the car

door. You haven’t been home in a long while. As you head

through the front door, fa-miliar smells consume your

senses. Gosh, it feels good to be home…

Fresh, Clean Bed Sheets. You yank at the corner

of the bedspread and slide your body under the freshly cleaned

sheets. The sheets feel cool to the touch. Everything seems so clean,

like nobody has ever slept in this bed before.

Receiving an Unexpected Compliment. It’s been an average

day. Unexpectedly, someone taps you on the shoulder, calls you “handsome” and

says she loves your shirt. The day just got a whole lot better.

Holding Hands with Someone You Love. Every time he grabs your hand you’re overcome with an awareness of how much he means to you. Holding hands is sensual and intimate, so when it happens you can be sure that the moment is special.

From the book of Awesome by Neil Pasricha

Three men died and went to heaven. At the gate St. Peter tells them, “Before you go into heaven, we are going to give you each a vehicle with which to

get around. The way we deter-mine what type of vehicle you will get is by how faithful you were to your wives. Now,” he says, turn-ing to the first man, “were you true to your wife?” “Yes, I was, St. Peter,” says the first man. “I never strayed. From the day I married her to the day I died, I slept with no woman other than my wife. I loved her very deeply.”

“As reward for your complete fidelity,” says St. Peter, “I now give you these keys to a beautiful Roll-Royce.”

Transportationin Heaven

The man happily accepts the keys, and St. Peter turns to the second man. “Sir,” he says, “were you faithful to you wife?”

“Well, St. Peter,” says the second man a little shyly, “I must admit that when I was much younger, I did stray once or twice. But I did love my wife very much, and after those minor indiscretions, I was completely faithful until my dying day.”

St. Peter looks down at the man and says, “As a reward for good marital con-duct, I am giving you these keys to a Pontiac.”

As the man takes the keys from his St. Peter turns to the third man. “Sir,” he says, “were you faithful to you wife?”

“St. Peter,” says the man, “I screwed everything I could, every chance I got. There wasn’t a week of my marriage that I

didn’t sleep with someone other than, wife. But I must admit to you, St. Peter, that it was a problem I had, because I really did love my wife very much.”

“Well,” says St. Peter, “we do know that you did love your wife and that does count for something, so

this is what you get.” With that he rolls out a ten-speed bicycle and gives it to

the man. The gates of heav-en open, and the three

men enter

Sometime later the man on the bicycle is riding along, when he sees that the man with the Rolls Royce has

pulled over and is sitting on the bumper of his car. He is sobbing

uncontrollably. The man pulls his bicycle up next to the man and says, “Hey, pal, what’s the matter? What could possibility be wrong? You have a beautiful Rolls Royce to drive around in?”

“I know,” says the man through his sobs,

“but I just saw my wife on roller skates!”

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of Being and ideal Grace. I love thee to the level of every day’s Most quiet need; by sun and candlelight. I love thee freely, as men strive for Right; I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise. I love thee with the passion put to use In my old griefs, and with my childhood’s faith I love thee with a love I seemed to lose With my lost saints,— I love thee with the breath. Smiles, tears, of all my life! — and, if God choose,I shall but love thee better after death.

Elizabeth Barrnett Browning

How do I Love Thee?

Baked BeansIf this doesn’t make you

laugh out loud, nothing will!

Once there lived a woman who had a maddening passion for baked beans.

She loved them but unfortunately, they had always have a very embarrassing

and somewhat lively reaction to her. Then one day she met a man and fell in love. When it became apparent that they would marry she thought to herself, “He is such a sweet and gentle man, he would never go for this carrying on.”

She made the supreme sacrifice and gave up beans. Some months later her car broke down on the way home from work.

Since she lived in the country she called her husband and told him that she would be late because she had to walk home.

On her way, she passed a small diner and the odor of the baked beans was more than she could stand.

Since she still had miles to walk, she figured that she would walk off any ill effects by the time she reached home.

So, she stopped at the diner and before she knew it, she had consumed three large orders of baked beans.

All the way home she putt-putted, and upon ar-

She loved baked beans but unfortunately, they have a very embarrassing lively

reaction to her.

Baked Beans riving home she felt reasonably sure she could control it.

Her husband seemed excited to see her and ex-claimed delightedly, “Darling, I have a surprise for dinner tonight.”

He then blindfolded her and led her to her chair at the table.

She seated herself and just as he was about to remove the blindfold from his wife, the telephone rang.

He made her promise not to touch the blindfold until he returned. He then went to answer the telephone.

The baked beans she had consumed were still affecting her and the pressure was becoming al-most unbearable, so while her husband was out of the room she seized the opportunity, shifted her weight to one leg and let it go.

It was not only loud, but it smelled like a fer-tilizer truck running over a skunk in front of pulpwood mill.

She took her napkin and fanned the air around her vigorously.

Then, she shifted to the other cheek and ripped three more, which reminded

her of cooked cabbage.

Keeping her ears tuned to the conversation in the other room, she went on like this for anoth-er ten minutes.

When the telephone farewells signaled the end of her free-dom, she fanned the air a few more times with her napkin, placed it on her lap and folded her hands upon it, smiling con-tentedly to herself.

She was the picture of innocence when her husband returned, apologizing for taking so long, he asked her if she peeked, and she assured him that she had not.

At this point, he removed the blindfold, and she was surprised!!!

There were dinner guests seated around the table to wish her a “Happy Birthday”!!!

This was sent through e-mail. It is an amazing and an unconventional way of recovering from stroke. Read through for it may help somebody on some unexpected day or emergency. It’s an immediate first aid to stroke victimsThis is amazing but according to the writer, it works. Please keep these very handy, excellent tips. Do take a minute to read this. You’ll never know but one’s life may depend on you and this First Aid Procedure.

An Unconventional way to respond to a Stroke

The sender wish she knew about this first aid before her father was para-lyzed and later died after suffering from a stroke. However, it is not too late to share it with others. Please read and pass it on.

When a stroke occurs, the capillaries in the brain shall gradually burst. When a stroke occurs, stay calm. No matter where the victim is, do not move him/her. Because if moved, the capillaries will burst. Help the vic-tim to sit up where he is to prevent him from falling over again, and then the bloodletting may now begin.

If you have in your home a syringe with a sterile hyphodermic needle, that would be the best, other-wise, a sewing needle or a straight pin will do.

Place the needle/pin over fire to sterilize it, and then use it to prick the tip of all 10 fingers. There

are no specific accupuncture points. Just prick about a mm from the fingernail. Prick till blood comes out. If blood does not start to drip, then squeeze the spot with your fingers. When all 10 fingertips are already bleeding, wait a few minutes then the victim shall regain consciousness.

If the victim’s mouth is crooked, then pull on his ears until they are red. Then prick each ear lobe twice until two drops of blood comes from each ear lobe. After a few minutes the victim should regain consciousness.

Wait till the victim regains his normal state without any abnormal symptoms; then take him to the nearest medical clinic or hospital.

If the stroke victim is taken in a hurry by an ambulance to a hospital, the bumpy trip may cause all the capillaries in his brain to burst.

If his life could be saved through this proce-dure and manages to walk un-aided thereaf-ter, then it is by the grace of his ancestors.

The writer learned about letting blood to save life from a Chinese traditional doctor Ha Bu-Ting who lives in Sun-Juke. Furthermore, he also had a personal experience administering it. Therefore he can say this method is 100% effective. In 1979, he was teaching in Fung-Gaap College in Tai-Chung. One afternoon-while attending to her class, another teacher came running to her classroom saying: “Mr. Liu, come quick, our supervisor has had a stroke!”

Mr. Liu immediately went to the 3rd floor. When he saw the supervisor, Mr.Chen Fu-Tien, his color was off, his speech was slurred, his mouth was crooked, bearing all the signs and symptoms of a stroke.

He immediately asked one of the practicum

students to go to the pharmacy outside the school to buy a syringe set which he used to prick Mr. Chen’s 10 fingers tips with. A few minutes later and after all 10 fingers had bled after pricking (each with a pea-sized drop of blood), Mr. Chen’s face regained its color and his eyes’ vision and expression returned to normal.

But his mouth was still crooked. So Mr. Liu pulled his ears to fill them with blood. When his ears became red, he pricked his right ear-lobe twice to let out 2 drops of blood. When both earlobes had already bled with about two drops of blood at each lobe, a miracle happened. Within 3-5 minutes the shape of Mr. Chen’s mouth returned to normal and his speech became clearer They let him rest for a while, gave him a cup of warm tea, then helped him go down the stairs, drove him to Wei-Wah Hospital. He rested one night and was discharged the following day and returned to school to teach.

Everything worked normally. There were no ill after-effects. On the other hand, the usual stroke victim usually suffers irreparable burst-ing of the brain capillaries on the way to the hospital. As a result, these victims never re-cover.

Stroke is the no. 2 cause of death. The lucky ones will stay alive but may remain paralyzed for life. It is such a horrible thing to happen in one’s life. If we can all remember this blood-letting method and start this emergency life-saving method/procedure as soon as anyone suffers a stroke, a victim of stroke may be revived and regain consciousness and normal body functions in a matter of minutes or until such time that it will be less risky to have him brought to the nearest hospital in an ambu-lance.

A group of students were asked to list what they thought were the present “Seven Wonders of the World.” Though there were some disagreements, the following received the most votes:

1. Egypt’s Great Pyramids

2. Taj Majal

3. Grand Canyon

4. Panama Cana;

5. Empire State Building

6. St. Peter’s Basilica

7. China’s Great Wall

While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student had not finished her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she is having trouble with her list. The girl replied, “Yes, a little. I couldn’t quite make up my mind because there are so many.”

The teacher said, “Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help.” The girl hesitat-ed, then read, “ I think the Seven Wonders of the World are:

1. To see

2. To hear

3. To touch

4. To taste

5. To feel

6. To laugh

7. To love

Upon reciting her “Wonders of the World”, it seems as if time stood still. The room was so quite you could have heard a pin drop. The student asked if what she wrote was wrong and the teacher can only smile and say, “No, my dear, you did right.

A gentle reminder – the most precious things in life cannot be built by hand or bought by man.

The things we overlook as simple and ordinary and that we take for granted are, in reality, the

most wonderful things in life!

A good night’s rest means that you get one chunk of solid sleep without being woken up, ‘partially woken up’, or even noticing any sounds while you’re in a dream state.

Unfortunately, ‘Lots of Sleep’ does not mean ‘Quality Sleep’

Tipsfor Better Sleep

Get Things Off Your MindA lot of times it’s hard to fall asleep in the first place, be-cause your mind is running in circles. It’s either something that is worrying you, or maybe you’re just excited about an idea and you can’t stop think-ing about it.

Eliminate Noise and TVMake sure your room is as quiet as possible. This especially means no television or music Many people rely on television and music to put them to sleep, but this severely affects the actual qual-ity of sleep you are getting.

DarknessThe ideal setting for quality sleep is a perfectly

dark room. Other than your alarm clock, try and seal up any possible sources of light coming from outside the room.

Be Careful With NapsDon’t take a nap if the afternoon has already passed and it should never be more than an hour long. The shorter -- the better.

Don’t Eat Before BedtimeYes it’s true, ating makes us feel sleepy right away, but it doesn’t help the actual quality of sleep. Your body will be digesting food while it’s supposed to be resting.

Avoid Exhaustive Physical or Mental Activity Before SleepRead a boring book to help you sleep, the more boring the better. Let your brain relax before bed time. Allow the body to relax before going to sleep.

Avoid Alcohol, Caffeine, and SmokingBooze may help you fall asleep, but will not improve the quality of your sleep. Avoid alcohol and cigarettes, especially before bed time, includ-ing the amount of caffeine you consume since it has a lingering effect.

Regular ExercisePeople who get regular exercise sleep better, it’s as simple as that.

Avoid Too Much WaterMake sure to empty yourself beforehand or you’re going to wake up to use the bathroom

Sleep SupplementsA half banana (potassium) or glass of warm milk is comforting and can help you relax.

Booze may help you fall asleep, but don’t ever think it will improve the

quality of your sleep.

Put Your Pets in Another RoomSleeping with a snoring spouse could be pretty bad (haha!), but sleeping with animals is equally disruptive to your sleep.

Meditation and Breathing ExercisesSimple, repetitive exercises (like counting back-wards from a million) can bore the mind into falling asleep.

MassagesA massage is a great way to help you relax, no question about it.

A married couple both got a call, supposedly coming from “VISA” and “MasterCard”, to warn them of a flagged transaction con-

cerning their card. The scam works like this: Per-son calling says, ”This is (name), and I’m calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460 your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I’m calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of bank). Did you pur-chase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a Marketing company based in Arizona?”

When you say “No”, the caller continues with,

“Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?”

You say “yes”. The caller continues - “I will be starting a Fraud investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number

Credit Cardlisted on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Con-trol Number. The caller then gives you a 6 digit number. “Do you need me to read it again?”

Here’s the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works The caller then says, “I need to verify you are in possession of your card”. He’ll ask you to “turn your card over and look for some numbers”. There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number, the next 3 are the security Numbers’ that verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the num-bers you sometimes use to make Internet purchas-es to prove you have the card.

The caller will ask you to read the 3 numbers to him. After you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he’ll say, “That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card.

Do you have any other questions?” After you say No, the caller then thanks you and states, “Don’t hesitate to call back if you have further questions or inquiries”, and hangs up.

WARNING. Seems the scammers have a new and clever way to get your credit card information. Please read. This is No Joke! Note, the callers do not ask for

your card number. This information is worth reading. By understanding how the VISA & MasterCard Telephone Credit Card Scam works, you’ll protect yourself.

Scam

You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the Card number. But after being called, the couple returned the call to the VISA Security Department within 20 min-utes to ask a question. And, whew! Are they are glad they did! The “REAL” VISA Security Department told them it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of $497.99 was charged to their card.

Long story made short - The husband and wife made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing them a new number. What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card. Don’t give it to them. Instead, tell them you’ll call VISA or Master card directly for verification of their conversation.

The real VISA people explained that they will never ask for anything on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card! If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN Number, you are giving them access to using your card. The scammers have ways of finding your card number. It is the 3 Digit PIN Numbers they don’t have access to. By the time you get your state-ment you’ll see charges for pur-chases you didn’t make, and by then it’s almost too late and more difficult to actually file a fraud report.

What makes this more remark-able is that on the following Thursday, the wife got another call from a certain ”Jason Rich-ardson of MasterCard” with a word-for-word repeat of the VISA scam. This time she didn’t let him finish. She hung up!

Tell everybody that this scam is happening.

Who doesn’t like to eat out? For most of us, it’s not just a meal, it’s our lifestyle. The fact is,

when we are out and about— we are eating here, there and everywhere.

We can choose where to eat, but sometimes there aren’t many choices. Or we can’t actually control what is served or on the menu. Meeting friends out may mean you don’t get to choose where to eat.But there are things we can do each time we eat out that can make a big difference in both eating

lose weight

Eat out, eat well,

well and weight management, depending on your aim.

Portion sizeIt isn’t just the fast food places that are super-siz-ing. Many restaurants serve much more than what are considered normal portion sizes (based on a 2000 calorie diet). But that’s of little help when the plate arrives at the table. And for many of us, what we see is what we eat.

Calorie chaosThe number of calories you take in is very im-portant; also important are the types of calories you’re taking in. The nutrients and substances contained in what we eat can help or hinder our goal to eat well.

Take a look and make informed choices. Fountain drinks (those sweetened with sugar, fructose, corn syrup and the like) have many calories with little nutritive value. Too much fat in the wrong forms (saturated fat, trans fat) is not good.

What you can doLook and ask for lean, low-fat (or fat-free). Most fast food restaurants have these options today. Restaurants may not point out which menu items are lean or low-fat, but the type of entree (fish,

Add and include vegetables and fruits, many of which have good fiber and will help you feel full without a lot of calories.Watch the salt and sugars. You might be surprised just what items are higher in salt. Look for the nutritional labeling and the Daily Value (ideally, DV should be less than 5%). Skip the sugary drinks. Better yet (nutritionally), go for a low-fat milk. The protein in milk helps satiate, or make you feel full.
