    ho really invented what?

    Although many great inven-

    ons were aributed to

their inventors, who could really say, it

was they who thought of it rst? With

    poor or non-existent communicaon,

it’s possible someone invented the de-

sign rst, but was beaten down to it, interms of recognion. That it was just a

maer of me - even a few minutes or

    seconds. Who could really tell...?

Great minds thinks alike. When Johann Vaaler

patented his paperclip in 1901, there already were

similar designs by William Middlebrook and Cor-

nelius Brosnan. Vaaler is credited with being therst to design a paperclip because of drawings he

    made as early as 1899.

In 1669, the principles of dierenal calculus were

determined by Sir Isaac Newton in England and

Goried Wilhelm Leibniz in Germany at about the

same me. (The name is derived from the

Lan word for “pebble,” referring to the

    use of pebbles for counng.)

One hour before Alexander Graham Bell

registered his patent for the telephone in

1876, Elisha Gray patented his design. Aer

years of ligaon, the patent went to Bell.

Gray invented the rst electronic musical

    instrument. He had accidentally discov-

ered that he could control sound from a

    self-vibrang electromagnec circuit and

    technology to Gray’s.

At 10h35 on Friday 17 December 1903, Orville

Wright took the Flyer that he and his brother

Wilbur built into the air for what has come to

be known as the rst powered ight. Earlier,

unbeknownst to them, Gustave Whitehead and

Richard Pearse were also experimenng with

ying machines. Who actually took rst to the

sky remains a controversy. In 1926 in Scotland, John Logie Baird dem-

onstrated a machine that transmits movie

pictures using radio technology, calling it a

“televisor.” It was based on a 1884 idea by

German Paul Nipkow. At the same me, Philo

Fansworth was toiling away in San Francisco on

his concept for television. The two men met a

few months later, and Baird had to agree that

Farnsworth’s electronic design was the beer. They weren’t the only ones working on a TV

model, though. Vladmir Zworykin, a Russian

immigrant to New York, was working on ath-

ode-ray tubes, with the backing of David Sar-

no, the tech-savvy marketer who started NBC.

In 1928, Farnsworth’s television sets made it to

the market rst, at $75 apiece.

in doing so invented a basic single

    note oscillator. The “Musical Tel-

    egraph” used steel reeds whose

    oscillaons were created and

    transmied over a telephone line

    by electromagnets. At the same

me, around 1874, Bell had also

    designed an experimental “Elec-

    tric Harp” for speech transmission

over a telephone line using similar

With WildlifeNo matter where you live, there are things you can do to keep the wildlife around you safe. All it takes is increased awareness and a few extra moments a day to make a huge differencein the lives of the wonderful animals with whom we share the Earth.

Here are a few quick and easy tips for preventing the suffering of wildlife:

    • Cut apart all sections of plastic six-pack rings, including the inner diamonds, before

discarding them. It prevents birds’ beaks from getting caught in the rings.

    • Rinse out cans, put the top inside so that it can’t cut an animal’s tongue, and flattenthe open end of the can as much as possible.

    • Cut open one side of empty cardboard and plastic containers so that squirrels andother small animals can’t get their faces or heads trapped in them.

A young man, a student in one of our

universies, was one day taking a

walk with a professor, who was com-

    monly called the students’ friend,

from his kindness to those who waited on his

    instrucons.

As they went along, they saw lying in the path

a pair of old shoes, which they supposed to

belong to a poor man who was employed in a

eld close by, and who had nearly nished his

    day’s work.

The student turned to the professor, saying:

“Let us play the man a trick: we will hide his

shoes, and conceal ourselves behind those

bushes, and wait to see his perplexity whenhe cannot nd them.”

“My young friend,” answered the professor,

“we should never amuse ourselves at the

expense of the poor. But you are rich, and

may give yourself a much greater pleasure by

means of the poor man. Put a coin into each

shoe, and then we will hide ourselves and

watch how the discovery aects him.”

The student did so, and they both placed

themselves behind the bushes close by.

The poor man soon nished his work, and

came across the eld to the path where he

had le his coat and shoes. While pung

on his coat he slipped his foot into one of

his shoes; but feeling something hard, he

stooped down to feel what it was, and found

    the coin.

Astonishment and wonder were seen upon

his countenance. He gazed upon the coin,

turned it round, and looked at it again and

again. He then looked around him on all sides,

but no person was to be seen. He now put the

money into his pocket, and proceeded to put

on the other shoe; but his surprise was dou-

bled on nding the other coin.

His feelings overcame him; he fell upon his

knees, looked up to heaven and uered aloud

a fervent thanksgiving, in which he spoke ofhis wife, sick and helpless, and his children

without bread, whom the mely bounty, from

some unknown hand, would save from perish-

    ing.

The student stood there deeply aected, and

his eyes lled with tears. “Now,” said the pro-

fessor, “are you not much beer pleased than

if you had played your intended trick?”

The youth replied, “You have taught me a les-

son which I will never forget. I feel now the

truth of those words, which I never under-

stood before: ‘It is more blessed to give than

    to receive.’”

A TRICKWe should never amuse ourselves

at the expense of the poor.

It was a busy morning, approximately 8:30

am, when an elderly gentleman,in his

80’s, arrived to have stches removed

from his thumb. He stated that he was

in a hurry as he had an appointment at

    9:00 am.

I took his vital signs and had himtake a seat, knowing it would

be over an hour before some-

one would to able to see him.

I saw him looking at his watch

and decided, since I was not

    busy with another paent, I

    would evaluate his wound.

On exam it was well healed,

so I talked to one of the

    doctors, got the needed

    supplies to remove his

    sutures and redress his

    wound.

    While taking care of his

    wound, we began to engage

    in conversaon I asked him

if he had a doctor’s ap-pointment this morning,

as he was in such a hurry.

    The gentleman told me no,

that he needed to go to the nurs-

ing home to eat breakfast with his

    wife.

I then inquired as to her health. He

told me that she had been there

for a while and that she was avicm of Alzheimer Disease. As we

talked, and I nished dressing his

wound, I asked if she would be

worried if he was a bit late. He

replied that she no longer knew

who he was, that she had not

    recognized him in ve years

    now.

    I was surprised,

    and asked him.

    “And you sll go

    every morning,

    even though

    she doesn’t

    know who

    you are?”

    He smiledas he pat-

    ted my

    hand and

    said. “She

    doesn’t

    know me,

    but I sll

    know who

she is.”I had to hold back

tears as he le, I had

    goose bumps on my arm,

    and thought, “That is the

kind of love I want in my

    life.” True love is neither

    physical, nor romanc.

True love is an acceptanceof all that is, has been, will

    be, and will not be.

This is a most remarkable puzzle. It was

found by a Mr. Valdez Raburn, in an

airplane seat pocket, while on a ight

from Los Angeles to Honolulu, keeping

him occupied for hours. John Hess, who owns

a beauty salon in N.J., ere… MI? Ah, it was N.Y.!

He found it tucked in one of his beauty maga-

zines. He spent so much me on this puzzlewhile eang at the local Deli, Saia Hess, his ex-

wife, had no choice but to buy out Hess’ salon!

I answered quite a bit of email from people

that have seen this puzzle. A famous comic, a

hilarious musician, sent an email that he stud-

ied the puzzle while playing his banjo. Elaine

Taylor was so mesmerized by this puzzle, she

    wrote a poem telling people not to fall vicm;

“O thy hidden books, which fail to be found, Ilook so hard and fule, I cannot put this puzzle

down!” She judges the job of solving this puz-

zle so involving, she brews a cup of tea to help

her nerves. There will be some books that are

really easy to spot, others near impossible! In

fact, some people will soon nd themselves

in a jam, especially since the book names are

    not necessarily capitalized. Truthfully, from

answers we get, we are forced to admit it usu-ally takes a minister or a scholar to nd some

of them! At the worst, one should be able to

nd at least half of them. Research has shown

that something in our genes is responsible for

the diculty we have in seeing the books hid-

den in this paragraph. The Chronicle, surveyed

over 200 patrons, including Jude Raj, a local

seminary professor. They agree this puzzle is

one of the most dicult they have ever seen.

Prof. Raj, on a Holy Bible, vowed to nd all the

books; rumor has it he’s sll looking. During a

recent fund raising event, which featured this

puzzle, the Alpha Delta Phi lemonade boothset a new record in sales. At an auto aucon,

where one HEMI, ahead of all other vehicles

sold, received a record bid due to the buyer

preoccupied with this puzzle while bidding! As

Daniel Sherman, a humble priest at St. Luke’s

medical center puts it, “The books are all right

here in plain view, hidden from sight.” Those

able to nd all of them will hear great lamenta-

ons from those who have to be shown wherethe books are found. One revelaon that may

help is that books like Timothy and Samuel

may occur without their preceding numbers.

Also, keep in mind two things, punctuaon

and spaces… some proclaim these two bad.

I, ahead of the game, knew that spaces and

punctuaon in the middle of a book would be

normal! A chipper atude will help you com-

pete really well against those who claim theycan nd the hidden books faster. Remember,

there is no need for a mad exodus; there really

are 40 books of the Bible lurking somewhere in

this text waing to be found.

FIND 40 BOOKS OF THE BIBLESee if you can nd 40 books of the Bible

    hidden in the following paragraph!

    God Bless and good luck!

     Will Human BeingBecome Immortal?

    hp://mashable.com/2012/08/02/the-2045-iniave-immortality/

Immortality is a great for True Blood, but

it’s not something most people take seri-

ously — except for Dmitry Itskov, that is.

The 31-year-old Russian plans on making

immortality a reality by 2045. His plan,

“The 2045 Iniave ,” will sound familiar

if you’ve seen the James Cameron block-

buster Avatar — and he just needs a fewbillion dollars to make it happen.

Itskov’s project has several phases, each

bringing mankind closer to the ulmate

goal living forever. The rst step in the pro-

ject is to create roboc humans that are

controlled remotely. He plans on crossing

this hurdle by 2020, at the latest.

By 2025, a human brain will be transferedinto a roboc skeleton to connue life

aer death. In 2035, the avatar’s brain will

be constructed separately, and your own

    personality will simply be “transfered”

into it when you are ready to end your

human existence. And nally, by the year

2045, humans will be able to walk around

in holographic avatars for eternity, never

fearing death. Not surprisingly, the project is extremely

expensive, and Itskov needs some serious

nancial help to pull it o. He’s asking the

world’s richest people to help fund the

movement. In return, He is pledging to

help each donor on his or her own quest

for immortality. You know, because it’s

hard to spend $50 billion in one lifeme.

I used to spend at least 8 hours every week-

end making sure things were just perfect -

‘in case someone came over’ Finally I real-ized one day that no-one came over; they

were all out living life and having fun!

NOW, when people visit, I don’t have to ex-

plain the ‘condion’ of my home .

They are more interested in hearing about the

things I’ve been doing while I was away living

    life and having fun.

If you haven’t gured this out yet, please

    heed this advice.

    Life is short. Enjoy it!

Dust if you must .... but wouldn’t it be bet-

ter to paint a picture or write a leer, bake

cookies or a cake and lick the spoon or planta seed, ponder the dierence between want

    and need?

Dust if you must, but there’s not much me...

with beer to drink , rivers to swim and moun-

tains to climb, music to hear and books to

read, friends to cherish and life to lead.

Dust if you must, but the world’s out there

with the sun in your eyes, the wind in yourhair, a uer of snow, a shower of rain. This

day will not come around, again.

Dust if you must , but bear in mind, old age

will come and it’s not kind. . ..

And when you go - and go you must - you,

    yourself will make more dust!

    LADIES!!!Remember...alayer of dust protects the

Wood beneath it.‘A house becomes a home when youcan write ‘I love you’

    READiculous !

    B

ecause I’m a man, when I lock my

keys in the car, I will ddle with a

    coat hanger long aer hypothermia

has set in. Calling AAA is not an op-on. I will win.

Because I’m a man , when the car isn’t run-

ning very well, I will pop the hood and stare

at the engine as if I know what I’m looking at.

If another man shows up, one of us will say

to the other, ‘I used to be able to x these

things, but now with all these computers and

everything, I wouldn’t know where to start.’

We will then drink a couple of beers and

break wind, as a form of holy communion.

    Because I’m a man, when I catch a cold, I

need someone to bring me soup and take

care of me while I lie in bed and moan. You’re

a woman. You never get as sick as I do, so for

    you, this is no problem.

Because I’m a man, I can be relied upon to

purchase basic groceries at the store, like

beer, milk or bread. I annot be expected to

nd exoc items like ‘cumin’ or ‘tofu.’ For all I

know, these are the same thing.

Because I’m a man, when one of our appli-

ances stops working, I will insist on taking it

apart, despite evidence that this will just cost

me twice as much once the repair person gets

here and has to put it back together.

Because I’m a man, I must hold the television

remote control in my hand while I watch TV.

If the thing has been misplaced, I may miss a

whole show looking for it.....though one me

I was able to survive by holding a calculator...(

    applies to engineers mainly).

Because I’m a man, there is no need to ask

me what I’m thinking about. The true answer

is always either sex, cars, sex, sports or sex.

I have to make up something else when youask, so don’t ask.

Because I’m a man, I do not want to visit your

mother, or have your mother come visit us, or

talk to her when she calls, or think about her

any more than I have to. Whatever you got

her for Mother’s Day is okay; I don’t need to

are feeling amorous aerwards.. ..then I will

certainly at least remember the name and

    recommend it to others.

    Because I’m a man, I think what you’re wear-

ve minutes ago was ne, too. Either pair of

shoes is ne. With the belt or without it, looks

ne. Your hair is ne. You look ne. Can we

     just go now?

Because I’m a man, and this is, aer all, the

year 2008, I will share equally in the house-work. You just do the laundry, the cooking,

An elderly Chinese woman had two

large pots, each hung on the ends of

a pole which she carried across her

    neck.

One of the pots had a crack in it while the

other pot was perfect and always delivered a

    full poron of water.

At the end of the long walks from the stream to

the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with

the woman bringing home only one and a half

    pots of water.

Of course , the perfect pot was proud of its

    accomplishments.

But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its

own imperfecon, and miserable that it could

only do half of what it had been made to do.

Aer two years of what it perceived to be bit-

ter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by

    the stream

“I am ashamed of myself, because this crack

in my side causes water to leak out all the wayback to your house.”

The old woman smiled, “Did you noce that

there are owers on your side of the path, but

not on the other pot’s side?”

“That’s because I have always known about

your aw, so I planted ower seeds on your

side of the path, and every day while we walk

    back, you water them.”

“For two years I have been able to pick these

beauful owers to decorate the table.

Without you being just the way you are, there

would not be this beauty to grace the house.”

Each of us has our own unique aw. But it’s

the cracks and aws we each have that make

our lives together so very interesng and

    rewarding.

You’ve just got to take each person for what

they are and look for the good in them.

SO, to all of my crackpot friends, have a great

day and remember to smell the owers on

    your side of the path!

It has worked for many. If it works for you

please pass on the good news. Chiu Nan is

not charging for it, so we should make it free

for everyone. Your reward is when someone,

through your word of mouth, benets from

he regime. Gallstones may not be everyone’s

concern. But they should be because we all havehem. Moreover, gallstones may lead to cancer.

“Cancer is never the rst illness,” Chiu Nan points

out. “Usually, there are a lot of other problems

    eading to cancer.

n my research in China , I came across some ma-

erials which say that people with cancer usually

have stones. We all have gallstones. It’s a maer

of big or small, many or few.One of the symptoms of gallstones is a feeling of

bloatedness aer a heavy meal. You feel like you

can’t digest the food. If it gets more serious, you

eel pain in the liver area.” So if you think you

have gallstones, Chiu Nan oers the following

    method to remove them naturally.

The treatment is also good for those with a weak

iver, because the liver and gallbladder are closelyinked.

    Regimen:

    1. For the rst ve days, take four glasses of ap-

ple juice every day. Or eat four or ve apples,

whichever you prefer. Apple juice soens the

The only survivor of a shipwreck was

washed up on a small, uninhabited

island. He prayed feverishly for God to

rescue him, and every day he scanned

the horizon for help, but none seemed

    forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed

to build a lile hut out of driwood to protect

him from the elements, and to store his few pos-

    sessions.

But then one day, aer scavenging for food, he

arrived home to nd his lile hut in ames, the

smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had hap-

pened; everything was lost. He was stunned with

grief and anger. “God, how could you do this to

    me!” he cried.

Early the next day, however, he was awak-

ened by the sound of a ship that was ap-

proaching the island. It had come to rescue

    him.

“How did you know I was here?” asked the

weary man of his rescuers. “We saw your

    smoke signal,” they replied.

It is easy to get discouraged when things

are going bad. But we shouldn’t lose heart,

because God is at work in our lives, even in

the midst of pain and suering. Remember,

next me your lile hut is burning to the

ground——it just may be a smoke signal

    that summons grace of God.
