subset of wells are monitored , data available within 1 hour, wireless, network limited without additional sensors(ecoli sensors :Sporian Microsystems )

Costs: each sensor: $9’000 + reactive agent ($100/2-3day)

datasamples

all wells are monitored by manually collecting samples, data results available after 8-18 hrs., network can be expanded(ecoli evaluation system: Veolia Endetec)

Costs: system: $15’000 + $10 reactive agent / test

combined network – data+sampling+discussions+advising

• wireless subset with in situ real time sensors for special problem wells• people based sample collection daily for all other wells. • public house of data is the evaluation and discussion center that holds the sample

evaluation systems and aggregates all the other data – connects to other public houses of data

(water samples are taken in the early evening. Processing happens automatically overnight. Results ready in the morning – and spread to the community instantly)

Compensating sensing

Replace unavailable sensors with readily available sensors and additional analysis to find the originally intended data. For example, instead of (currently) expensive e-coli sensors one can measure ‘cheaper’ parameters such as localized soil humidity, rainfall (amount and duration) to estimate the probability of an e-coli event . Whatever the actual choice of compensating sensors are, the setup should be devised to allow for inclusion of additional inputs ….(I am working on a similar approach this summer with the GBF system.)
