18.06.17.Father’s Day

(Sunday Readings: of year A : Breviary: Week iii)

THIS SUNDAY’S MASSScripture: Deuteronomy 8: 2–3, 14–16.

Psalm 147

R/. O praise the Lord, Jerusalem.

O praise the Lord. Jerusalem;Zion, praise your God;He has strengthened the bars of your gates,he has blessed the children within you.

He established peace on your borders,he feeds you with finest wheat. He sends out his word to the earthand swiftly runs his command.

He makes his word known to Jacob,to Israel his laws and decrees. He has not dealt thus with other nations;he has not taught them his decrees.

1 Corinthians 10: 16 – 17. Sequence. John 6: 51 – 58.

Intercession : Lord hear us.Response : Lord, graciously hear us.

One day a Catholic, a Baptist and a Methodist were going fishing. No sooner had they set up their rods and nets in the middle of the lake than the Catholic remembered that he had left the food provisions on the shore. So he got out of the boat, walked on the water, picked up his supplies, walked back on the water and climbed into the boat. Then the Baptist realized that they did not have enough bait. So he got out of the boat, walked on the water, bought a packet of bait, walked back on the water and climbed into the boatThen the Methodist realized that his watch wasn’t working and wanted to buy a new one. So he took it off, got out of the boat… but sunk all the way down to the bottom of the lake. The Catholic turned to the Baptist and said: ‘I guess we should have told him where the rocks are!’

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Two businessmen went into a diner and ordered two drinks. Then they produced sandwiches from their briefcases and started to eat. Seeing this, the waiter became agitated and marched over to inform them : ‘Sorry, but you can’t eat your own sandwiches in here!’ The two men looked at each other, shrugged their shoulders and exchanged sandwiches.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

A father was driving his son to school when he inadvertently made a wrong turn at some traffic lights. Realizing his mistake, he said: ‘Oops, I just made an illegal turn.’‘It’s okay, Dad,’ said his son. ‘The police car behind us did the same thing.’

GRENFELL TOWER BLOCK TRAGEDY

As a Community we pray for all those who lost their lives in this tragedy.

Eternal Rest Grant unto them O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they Rest in Peace. Amen.

We also remember in our prayers, the families and community who have suffered such terrible loss, and we praise and thank the Emergency Services, doctors and nurses who devote their lives to serving and helping others. May God Bless them.

O God, who in this wonderful Sacrament have left us a memorial of your Passion, grant us, we pray, so to revere the sacred mysteries of your Body and Blood that we may always experience in ourselves the fruits of your redemption. Who live and reign with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, on God, for ever and ever

FATHER’S DAY

Fatherhood calls for many challenges and hardships, which every dad bears with pride and happiness. Your dad has been your first friend who has always been with you, no matter what. He is the one person who has bestowed you with unconditional love and care, without asking for anything in return. When it comes to the relationship you share with your father, there are absolutely no strings attached. He may not show, but he is always there for you, with his unwavering support and assistance. How often do you take out time to whisper a silent prayer to God for the health and happiness of this special person in your life? This Father's Day, take it as an opportunity to seek blessings for your father, with a special prayer of gratitude.

God, bless all the fathers in the world.Guide them to be good role models

and loving to all their children.Help them to be a father like You are.

Give them grace and patienceto handle situations in a loving way.

Amen!
