“A L I V E A N D A C T I V E ”The Year of Saint Matthew
3rd SUNDAY of EASTER30.04.17.
(Sunday Readings: of year A : Breviary: Week iii)
THIS SUNDAY’S MASSScripture Acts 2: 14, 22 – 33.
Psalm 15
R/. Show us, Lord, the path of life!
Preserve me, God, I take refuge in you.I say to the Lord: ‘You are my God.O Lord. it is you who are my portion and cup;it is you yourself who are my prize’.
I will bless the Lord who gives me counsel, who even at night directs my heart.I keep the Lord ever in my sight:since he is at my right hand, I shall stand firm.
And so my heart rejoices, my soul is glad;even my body shall rest in safety. For you will not leave my soul among the dead, nor let your beloved know decay.
You will show me the path of life, the fullness of joy in your presence,at your right hand happiness for ever.
1 Peter 1: 17 – 21. Luke 24: 13 – 35.
A man went to the vet to collect his sick dog. The vet came in carrying the dog and said: ‘I’m really sorry, but I’m going to have to put your dog down.’The man sobbed: ‘Why?’‘Because he’s too heavy.’
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Three men were sitting in a Newport Pub. One man looked at the newspaper headlines, shook his head and sighed. Then the second man looked at his newspaper, shook his head and sighed. The third man reached for his hat and said: ‘If you two are going to discuss politics, I’m off.’
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
A customer went into a hardware store and asked for some nails.‘How long do you want them?’ asked the assistant.‘Oh, said the customer, ‘I was rather hoping to keep them.’

PIANO CONCERTIn
Saint Mary’s ChurchOn
Friday 5th May at 1.00There will be a collection in aid of Saint
David’s Foundation.
Don’t QuitWhen things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill,When the funds are low and the debts are highAnd you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,Rest, if you must but don’t you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns aboutWhen he might have won had he stuck it out;Don’t give up though the pace seems slow –
You may succeed with another blow.Success is failure turned inside out –The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are.It may be near when it seems so far:
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit –It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Thoughts for the forthcoming Election:
In a few weeks we will be asked to place a tick next to a name on a ballot paper, this will be the General Election. Next Thursday 4th May we will have an opportunity again to vote, this time in the local elections.
Catholics have a social conscience, a respect for human kind, have an obligation for the well being not only of oneself and ones family but for ones neighbour
We live in a democratic society, which allows us to vote as our conscience dictates. Before we cast our vote next Thursday let us remember that our vote is not a selfish vote but one that will bring about true justice and well being for all who live in Newport.
ST. MARY’S PRIMARY SCHOOLFIRST HOLY COMMUNION
There are 38 children making their First Holy Communion on Saturday 13th May during the 10.00 am Mass. Due to the large number of children and members of their families occupying the centre isle, seating for parishioners at this Mass will be restricted to the side chapels.
