3rd Sunday of Advent Gaudete “Rejoice” Sunday

(Sunday Readings: of year B: Breviary: Week iii) 17.12.17.

THISSUNDAY’SMASS: Scripture: Isaiah 61: 1 – 2, 10 – 11. Luke 1: 46 – 50, 53 – 54. R/. My soul rejoices in my God. My soul glorifies the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour. He looks on his servant in her nothingness; henceforth all ages will call me blessed. The Almighty works marvels for me. Holy is his name! His mercy is from age to age, on those who fear him.

He fills the starving with good things, sends the rich away empty. He protects Israel, his servant, remembering his mercy. 1 Thessalonians 5: 16 – 24. John 1: 6 – 8, 19 – 28 Intercession : Lord in your mercy Response : Hear our Prayer

During this period, there will be only ONE daily Mass in the morning at St. Mary’s as Fr. Michael will be on his own. Normal schedule will resume on Fr. Daniel’s return.

It’s beginning to look a lot like … This weekend we anticipate Christmas as our churches are decorated and we bless the baby Jesus as we begin to look toward Christmas. So why not join us at St. Mary’s TOMORROW at 7.00pm as we recount the Christmas story and sing carols in anticipation of the Holy Season.

Prayer for the 3rd Sunday of Advent

Loving God, you often call us out into the wilderness and we find ourselves uncertain of our calling. Send us the Spirit that you gave to John the Baptist that we may prepare the way of Jesus in our hearts and trust in your love even in dark and lonely times. We ask this in Jesus’ name confident that you will hear us.

Page 5: LITURGY, THE PRAYER OF THE PEOPLE Third Sunday of Advent - … · 2018-11-12 · LITURGY, THE PRAYER OF THE PEOPLE Third Sunday of Advent Saturday: 4.30 pm Departed Souls of Kaviyil

There will be a 2nd collection this Sunday in aid of the sick and retired clergy. It was not taken last week because of the snow Thank you to all who organised the party for the children on Sunday in spite of the snow. There was a lovely atmosphere and the children who managed to come enjoyed themselves. We hope there was no one suffered after the snowballs! Father Christmas also left some gifts for the children who were not able to come. Congratulations to all who won prizes. Our raffle money has yet to be fully counted.

We will have no devotions to Our Lady or meeting on Tuesday 19th or the 26th Dec. We will start back on Jan 2nd.

CHRISTMAS CARDS It has been suggested again this year that instead of sending Christmas Cards to each other, we donate the money to St. David 's hospice.

Trevor will be selling cards this Sunday for the Prisoners of Conscience. They are Ready addressed and stamped cards for you to add a short non political message. Please do your best to support this, which will only be the cost of a stamp. Poinsettias: Please bring a Poinsettias to church next weekend in a plant pot please. This is in memory of you loved ones please add a message on the pot. This always makes our church look lovely.

There is a lovely supply of Christmas Card etc. as well as Advent Calendars for sale in our piety stall Many thanks go to everyone who has donated a prize for the raffle. Lots of people are going to be winners.

A big thank you goes to St Anne's for inviting us to their Christmas lunch. Everyone enjoyed themselves.

Thanks to Sue for organising the Christmas lunch at Crosskeys College, it was a great success. A big thank you goes to St Anne’s for including us in their trip to the pantomime. Everyone had a good time. "Oh yes we did !"

The next SVP meeting will be on Tuesday 2nd January at 5.00 in the Sacristy. Anyone willing to Ferry the elderly to and from the Christmas Party on Saturday 13th January please contact a member of the SVP. The Folk Choir will be leading the music for the Christmas Eve Mass. When we try to support the Seven Corporal Works of Mercy, many of us manage to fulfil our duty towards people who are hungry, thirsty, short of clothes, homeless, sick or bereaved, but find it more difficult to help people who are imprisoned. To counter this situation there will be a retiring collection this weekend, the Third Sunday of Advent. We hope to support the local prison chaplaincy by contributing to their wish list of bibles, hymn books, publications by the Redemptorists for prisoners, a pack for new prisoners containing devotional items. We have an opportunity to support this Corporal Work of Mercy and to perhaps benefit society in the long run.

Religious cards are on sale at the back of the church for £2 a pack or sold separately for 50 pence a card, all proceeds will go towards the new carpet. Thanks to Julie and Chris for donating the cards.

Piety. Advent calendars, books, Christmas cards, calendars and a number of assorted gifts, as well as grave candles for sale. Come and have a look after mass!
