JESUS’ FAITH IN US

All our readings today embrace one of God’s smallest but most common miracles as a metaphor: the seed and its cycle, and all that it stands for. Isaiah reminds us that just as God waters the earth and cares for it so that seeds may grow, so the Word of God will come and not return to God until it has borne fruit. Psalm 65 describes the cycle of growth and personifies fields that “shout for joy.” Romans has “creation groaning in labor pains” as it waits for its seed to come to fruition, redemption of the body. Similarly, Jesus teaches the crowds by using the parable of the sower and the seed. The Holy Land is rocky and arid, and undoubtedly many seeds do not grow in those conditions. It may seem easier for the farmer to not even bother, and Jesus could do that to us, but He does not. He has faith and trust that a number of the seeds planted in us will bear great fruit. They will not wither and fade away, but will produce fruit, a hundred-, or sixty- or thirty-fold. And His faith in us gives us hope. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

My friends in Christ:

Sunday Collection Report (2nd Quarter: April, May, June 2020) Through the generosity of our parish community, we continue to weather the financial challenges well during the COVID-19 pandemic. The second quarter 2020 Sunday collections exceeded the second quarter 2019 by $8,154. This is really great news, but we are still shy by $44,000 when compared with our budget for the 2019-2020 fiscal year. June 2020 has been our strongest month of the second quarter for Sunday collections. Below is a breakdown of contributions for June 2020:

♦ June 2020 weekly average envelopes: $10,235 (149 households) ♦ June 2020 weekly average E-giving: $ 6,557 (181 households) ♦ June 2020 total weekly average collection: $16,792 (330 households)

Some More Good News

Last week, Archbishop Perez appointed Father Dave to be a part-time chaplain at Lansdale Catholic High School. Father Dave will continue his full-time assignment here at St. Jude Parish, while assisting as a chaplain at Lansdale Catholic High School one day a week. After eighteen years in high school ministry, I know how fulfilling this priestly ministry to young people can be, not only for the youth he will serve, but also for himself as a priest. Congratulations Father Dave!

God bless! Monsignor Francis W. Beach, Pastor

Pastor’s Column July 12, 2020

Thank You Page During the shut down, many people contacted the parish to thank Msgr. Beach, Fr. Dave, and the leadership for their daily reflections and online Mass. See our Thank You page to read their kind words!

St. Jude Novena and Adoration Return! Adoration, St. Jude Novena, and veneration of St. Jude's relic have been reinitiated at St. Jude every Thursday in the main church.

Adoration begins after the 9am Mass until 7pm. Novena and veneration takes place after the 9am Mass, at 2pm, and at 7pm. Go to stjudechalfont.org/st-jude-novena for information and the novena prayer.

Prayer Service for Racial Justice and Healing At the prayer service on June 27, Msgr. Beach gave a beautiful and moving homily.

Please visit our website to read his words and continue to pray for peace and healing in our nation. stjudechalfont.org/racism-and-justice

Missionary Appeal On August 1-2 we were scheduled to be visited by Fr. Kyere of the Diocese of Konono-Mampong, Ghana, to hear of their great work and the great need there. Sadly, due to the pandemic, we will not be able to hear from Fr. Kyere personally, but their need is dire, especially now. As stated in a letter to Msgr. Beach from the Pontifical Mission Societies,

“As with most catastrophic events, the world's poor have been hit the hardest. Our Missionaries rely primarily on this Appeal and the support of YOU and the faithful of your parish.”

Visit the Konono-Mampong Diocese at kmdiocese.org to see their needs, and please be generous in the August 1-2 collection.

Our day is designed to help couples prepare for a strong, successful, lifelong marriage in a joy-filled, welcoming, environment. The sessions are held at St. Jude School located at 323 West Butler Avenue, Chalfont. Our next session is scheduled for Saturday, October 24th, 2020.
