For the Hi Summer 2009 range

Claudio worked on a specific piece

of art in close collaboration

with the girls design department.

Drawing upon inspirations and days

of olde, he combined his photographs

with sourced vintage imagery

to create ‘Surf City’. Filled with the

colours and textures that make

summer so exciting, ‘Surf City’

embraces all the feel-good elements

of that long hot summer you just want

to re-live time and time again. Aloha!

“I come from Toomelah mission, a

small aboriginal community on the

dry plains near the North western

border of NSW. Toomelah is the

aboriginal word for ‘people who

move from place to place’ and it

reflects very much the lifestyle

I have chosen to live. I got into art at

a young age inspired by my younger

brother. I picked up a paint brush

and never looked back. I paint what

I see and what I was told by my Nan

and other elders of the Goomeroi

tribe. The colour in my art depends

on the location and what I am feeling

at the time.”

Hailing from Melbourne, Victoria,

Fashion Photographer Elle Green

now calls Sydney home. Last year

she opened her first solo exhibition at

MTV Gallery and designed and

self-published a travel photo book

that’s sold nationally. What will be

next for her? Catch her if you can.

Bindi spent a great deal of her

childhood visiting antique stores in

country towns around Australia,

forming the basis of her love of all

things printed, vintage and

collectable. Bindi has exhibited

internationally and her work has

appeared in numerous magazines,

design journals, and fashion textiles

and graphics all over the world.

Bindi currently resides in Melbourne,

Australia and while she’s not roaming

around flea markets or visiting the

countryside, she spends her time

continuing to draw and create “all

things cute, girly and nostalgic.

I’m very fond of yesteryear.”

ARTIST COLLABORATIONSWe have new creative friends for you to meet! Elle, Bindi and Colin join up with Claudio for our Hi Summer Artist collaboration. The artists’ beautiful works add that special something to compliment our existing world of wonderful graphics.

ON LOCATION - BYRON BAYAhh, Byron. Hot days in the sun, the aroma of delicious feasts, the faint sound of bongos on a Sunday afternoon…heaven on earth.

Last April a local crew of eight packed up the vans, made a quick stop at the airport to pick up Tori, and headed to our fave big-small town, Byron Bay. Finally, some time out of the office! Reminiscent of family summer holidays of old, we crammed into two houses and wrapped up the shoot with a backyard BBQ.

Our fave property, 1,2,3 Jonson Street, ended up featuring in the shoot due to a location change on a wet weather call.

We introduced Steve Baccon, Sydney based photographer, to the team and it felt just like long a lost friend had returned at last! The relaxed shoot brought with it many, many laughs, a discovery of a secret nightclub in our kitchen (yes, really!) and an air of ease seeing Tori shine in front of Steve’s lens.

Most of the shoot was at Little Watego’s and the Pass, with the iconic Byron landscape the perfect backdrop.

This September the newly decked out Billabong bus cruised down the east coast from Bundaberg to Ocean Grove,

with three stops in between, as part of Girls Get Out There ‘09.

Over five events, nearly 650 girls headed down to their local beach for a fun-filled day including a dance lesson from

Timomatic and Kat from this year’s So You Think You Can Dance, a professional surf lesson,

giveaways from Sony, Girlfriend Magazine and Billabong as well as the chance to hang

out with Billabong Ambassadors and Team Riders.

Timomatic and Kat loved the tour and described their time on it as “absolutely incredible”. The talented twosome inspired all

the girls with their pumpin’ moves and routines. But Timomatic and Kat were also blown away by the effort and enthusiasm

during the Sony DanceOff competitions, and admitted to learning a thing or two from the confidence of the girls.

“Awesome” and “amazing” were how girls described their time at the beach during GGOT. “It [GGOT] was amazing, so much

fun,” said 14 year old Greta Walters, who attended the Ocean Grove event and was a Sony Dance Off winner. “I haven’t had

a favourite part of the day, I’ve loved it all. Definitely coming back next year!”

In July this year we sent our top international junior team to the surfing mecca that is Bali, Indonesia for a 10 day experi-ence. The surfers included the Aussies: Felicity Palmateer, Ellie-Jean Coffey, Kirby Wright and Dimity Stoyle. The Americans: Courtney Conlogue, Catherine Clarke Taylor Pitz, and Alessa Quizon. And the South African: Heidi Palmboom.

Here they share their experience…

“ Balinese culture is very diverse. You really appreciate how beautiful the buildings and the statues are because so much effort has gone into making them. The architecture is very detailed and they use lots of different colours compared to our very reserved colours at home. They use lots of reds and oranges with lots of jagged carvings which are a darker colour usually.

The shopping……oh the shopping! I came backafter a big shopping session loaded up with DVD’s, sunnies, handbags, wallets, jewellery, sarongs and I was stressing “oh my gosh I spent like 500 000 today!”I worked it out on a calculator to realize oh… that’s only $50. I’ve never had $50 go so far!

Dimity Stoyle

The best part of the trip for me was going over to Nusa Lembongan. I have never been there before and especially after the boat ride over it looked like heaven to me. It is the prettiest place I have ever seen, surrounded by crystal blue waters. The car free island was the perfect place to relax and chill out from the previous full on days of surfing.Even though the surf wasn’t very good when we were over there, we still amused ourselves with our very own pool in our house, the ocean, the food and the late night talk sessions.

At the end of the trip, I had experienced great waves, enjoyed different parts of Bali and its culture, and met some unreal surfers which I now call friends.
