• NI56 of our Local Area Agreement (3 year partnership with government and key partners to promote a healthier nation) is concerned with Child Obesity.

• 2006-07 – 16.9% Year 6 Obese baseline• 2007-08 – 18.6% Year 6 Obese• 2007-08 – Local Area Agreement target = 16.5%

The potential…… Currently 6500 users on our database aged 11-15 years Exergaming can encourage kids to participate in an extra 30

minutes of physical activity Free Swimming has increased participation and new users -

exergaming can utilise this market Youth Fitness Academy’s Norwich Union Funding could be

invested in exergaming products Chamberlayne’s Holiday Club to market the Nintendo Wii and

Gamercize


What about Exergaming National Indicator 8? (Adult Participation)

Chamberlayne aim to promote exergaming to the following demographics:

50+ users – Nintendo Wii and Gamercize sessions

Disabled Users – Gamercize sessions


Questions to be answered….. Will exergaming increase 11-15yrs participation in physical

activity across Southampton Leisure Venues/Nationally? What can exergaming do to help us attain our Local

Authority Agreement Targets, especially National Indicator 8?

Summary…. Chamberlayne Leisure Centre appreciate the benefits of

exergaming to our customers More evidence is required to highlight a positive correlation

between exergaming and an increase in participation in physical activity towards the National Indicators

Exergaming can only benefit from forming new partnerships One thing is for sure – those who use the Gamercize love
