Wood’s Words A big Blues thank you to all the members and vol-
unteers who worked behind the scenes, the
months preceding, and the Sunday afterword, to
pull off an amazing Blues Under the Trees! Thank
you all! The artists were outstanding and very
appreciative of the audience and hospitality. The
Blues truly is a family and we get reminded of that
when we host Blues lovers and bands every year.
We can truly say there is no other experience
quite like, Blues Under the Trees. You all make it
possible. Thanks also to all the wonderful spon-
sor’s who support us! Your gifts give us inspiration to continue to bring this American
original to our area every year. Small towns are sometimes left in the lurch when it
comes to hosting international recording acts, but the Lizard Creek Blues Society spon-
sors help bring quality artists to our small town we really appreciate it. What a good
time for all!
I want to say a very special thank you to Tim and Sara O’Leary. They have been with us
since the beginning in 1999. They have worked tirelessly every single year carrying a
heavy load to make sure the show goes on. I have never met harder workers and nicer
people. People like Tim and Sara do not ask for anything return, they do it because they
love it. That and the already mentioned strong work ethic have been a major factor in
every show we do. Sara’s brother PJ Rodenborn has been there also, and he has put up
with Lizard merchandise lining the walls of his washroom ever since the first t-shirt
came off the press. As I said earlier, Blues is family, and this family has been there for us
every time. Thank you, Tim, Sara, and PJ. You guys rock!
Something to think about, the above mentioned people are now grandparents with very
sore backs and blistered hands. They have earned time off to be near their loved ones
and rest their weary souls. Someone needs to step up and keep this merry little band of
music lovers dancing in July and on weekends during the fall, winter and spring. Is that
you, or you? I hope so, because without you, there won’t be another Blues Under the
Trees. That’s the cold hard facts people. That’s the Blues.
If you love something, you take care of it and keep it going during the hard times as well
as the bad. If we do not get more volunteers, not just on show day, but the days before
and after, we are going to be singing the Blues to ourselves.
Cool City Man!

Lizard Creek Blues Society sends Thanks to
Gene Walker and SKB Sound for
making the blues sound so good! Gene,
Mark, and Stretch have been with us from
the beginning. We couldn't do this
without them!
Thanks, SKB Sound!"
Charles City Arts Center, under direction of Director Nicole Fullard, presents
Sat. Aug. 17, 2013
7 to 10 p.m. at the Wildwood Clubhouse,
# 1 Wildwood Road, Charles City, Iowa
Featuring traditional blues player "Barrelhouse Bonni" with heritage Chicago blues singer Larry Tay-
lor and guitar player Jon McDonald. Admission is $5.oo.
Bonni's piano style dates back to the humble, dirt-floor "barrelhouses" of the early 20th century south
--with battered upright pianos in one corner, and people dancing all night to the rhythms of 88 keys.
www.barrelhousebonni.
Singer Larry Taylor played drums with his late stepfather Eddie Taylor, with Junior Wells, Honeyboy
Edwards, and many other Chicago greats.
www.larrytaylorbluesnsoul.com
Guitarist Jon McDonald spent over a dozen years playing with the late Magic Slim, including six
recordings.
Barrelhouse Bonni presents heritage musicians performing "nothing but the blues", played and sung
in the true tradition and fundamentals of this great American art form. Take this opportunity to hang-
out with fellow blues fans for a great evening of "good times".
To Gene’s wife, Dawn Walker.
Get Well Soon,
Best Wishes from the
