Introduction of Load SecurityThe prevention of damage to goods during transport is of utmost importance to ensure the safety of all persons involved in the logistic chain and protecting the environment in which we live.

Some pages in this catalogue are designed to make a number of recommendations regard-ing the use of our products for typical load securing applications in containers and on flat racks with the aim of preventing the move-ment of goods and damage.

It is based on the recommendations found in the IMO booklets “Guidelines for Packaging of Cargo Transport Units” known as the CTU Guidelines and the “Code of Safe Practice for Cargo Stowage and Securing”.

The recommendations found in this guide are accepted by many shipping lines and sur-veyors. However, the safety of the cargo and responsibility for using our products correctly to our instructions always lies with the shipper himself.

Due to the diversity of customer applications and products, Fortris can only make a num-ber of standard recommendations for typical applications.

Guidelines for Packing of Cargo Transport Units (CTUs)The IMO booklet “Guidelines for Packing of Cargo Transport Units” (CTUs) makes a number of recommendations regarding the stowage and securing of cargos on or in CTUs. A selection has been made of the most relevant recommendations when stowing cargos in containers and flat racks.

The basic version of all current polyester strappingHot Melt Straps have been applied for many years in all industrial branches are are gentle on delicate edges and surfaces. They can be tensioned by hand or by using tools. It can be used with buckles or just using knots for easy binding. The special lamination provides a controlled unreel, meter by meter. That makes it per-fect for use in automatic baling press machines.

The material absorbs very little moisture, is weather resistant and protects sensitive surfaces against dam-age. Furthermore it can be retensioned in case of vol-ume loss in packaged goods and has a high breaking load, linear and within a system.

Strapping with wire bucklesAn Important key to all one way strappings.

Wire buckles are the most ecomonic solution for all our strapping systems up to 32mm. When using wire buckles it is important that the belts are applied in the correct way and that the system will be tensioned on the right (left) side of the buckles.Tensioning on the wrong side will weaken the system and therefore it is not safe.

Polyester Composite StrappingThe best solution for many applications.

Polyester Composite straps are especially made for usage on rough environmental materials and sharp edges.

The optimise strength is the perfect base to secure the cargo. Composite is made of parallel layers of single polyester threads laminated together with polypropyl-ene.

It does not split, it’s flexible and can be used universal-ly. The core of our composite strapping is made of un-twisted polyester yarn. Due to our unique and patented process in manufacturing for untwisted yarn this strap-ping achieves higher strength and lower elongation.

The special recipe of our polypropylene coating en-sures an optimal compound with the polyester fibres and is at the same time resistant to most chemical solvents, caustics and acids. Due to higher abrasion protection it is well suited for products with rough sur-faces and edges.

For all our composite belts we recommend to use gal-vanised buckles. In several tests they have performed better than others.

Polyester Woven StrappingWoven strapping PES belts are made of high tensile polyester yarns. Due to its material characteristics it has low elongation (below 10%), is highly tear proof and absorbs very little moisture.

Furthermore it can be retensioned in case of volume loss in the packaged goods and has a high breaking load, linear and within the system.

We provide our woven strapping with a width of 13 mm and a traction force of 375 daN linear / 690 daN within a system up to a width of 25 mm and a traction force of 1.350 daN linear / 2000 daN within a system.

Polyester Extruded StrappingPET Extruded Polyester Strapping is the safe and economical alternative to steel strapping or banding systems. Extruded Polyester Strapping, abbreviated to PET strapping (polyethylene terephthalate) is used in heavy duty applications demanding high tensile strength and fast application by the installer.

Twice as strong as polypropylene strapping and as strong as steel banding, PET Strap is capable of withstanding and retaining a much higher tension on rigid loads. Typical PET extruded polyester strapping applications include bricks, timber, and textiles.

Extruded Polyester Strapping is also safer to use than steel strapping as it does not have sharp edges or present a whiplash hazard to the user.

The featured of extruded polyester strapping also provide many additional benefits over other strapping products. PET strapping is lightweight, flexible, easy to handle, and will not rust (non-corrosive), scratch or stain strapping loads.

Bale StrappingBale strap can also be known as bailing tape or bale press strap. It comes in a wide variety of sizes to fit most bailing machines and waste compactors. Bale strap can also be easily hand tied to secure compact-ed bales, drums or awkward loads. Bale strap will not tear or fray and can be used with heavy duty steel buckles.

Ribbon/Oscillated Steel StrappingSteel StrappingSteel Strapping is used for heavy duty holding where high strength and minimal stretch is re-quired. Steel strapping is commonly used to securely transport Steel Coils, bundles of metal, bailing wire and bricks. Fortris Steel strapping is made from the highest quality steel making it the highest tensile strength strapping.

Steel strapping is heavy duty designed to secure cargo, loads, pallets and consignments with sharp angles. Steel strapping conforms to sharp angles and awkward shapes, meaning that this strapping is ideal for securing, storing and sending any irregular shape consignments.

Ribbon Wound steel strapping has each layer of steel wound directly over the one below – this type of steel banding makes the width of the steel strap the same as the width of the steel coil. Steel banding supplied in cold rolled ribbon wound coils with sheared and dressed edges for safety with a black painted finish for added rust and corrosion protection.

Mill wound steel strapping is much larger coil than rib-bon wound strapping. Mill wound steel banding strap is uniformly and tightly coiled across the width of the core. Both ribbon wound and oscillated steel strap-ping are ideal for securing export cases, sharp edged objects, heavy duty transport packaging, bundling and pallet banding.

Strap Dispensers

The Fortris Mobile Dispenser consists of a rugged construction that is suitable for the high demands of modern logistics processes. Our strap dispenser is equipped with two metal side windows and a band brake. The metal side plates prevent lateral slipping of the strap, while the band brake reduces the run of the coil.

Buckles & HooksGold Wire BucklesWire Buckles provide the optimal solution for load se-curing with our lashing straps. Due to the use of high quality steel used to manufacture these buckles it pro-vides great strength. The special galvanised coating on the Wire Buckles provides the perfect protection against corrosion enabling them to last for a lengthy period of time.

Gold Drop Forged BucklesGold Drop Forged Buckles are made from one solid metal piece without any weld points allowing for max-imum strength. This method of manufacturing allows for additional strength as there are no weld points at which the buckles can break under heavy force. The Gold Drop Forged Buckles are made from high quality steel allowing for a high quality and strength buckle.

Phosphated BucklesPhosphated buckles are made of steel and slightly roughened due to a special surface finishing. They are required to safely seal our woven strapping. The phos-phated metal buckle has a roughened surface and has a higher system resistance than the galvanized buck-le. These buckles are very useful for preventing the load strapping from slipping.

Galvanized BucklesOur galvanized metal wedges serve to close a strap-ping band. They are made from steel and due to their galvanizing resistant against corrosion. The wedges are applied in combination with our Composite and Hot-Melt strapping.

Gold HooksGold hooks are used for one way lashing. The high strength steel used to manufacture these hooks pro-vides maximum protection for your load securing solutions. The hooks are coated in special galvanised steel which provides the perfect protection against cor-rosion. These two major advantages allow the hooks to last a lengthy period of time.

Fast Filling SystemOur Mega Flow Valve, allows you to fill up air bags much faster with our Venturi air filling device. Dunnage Bag InflatorVenturi Fast Filling SystemThis special tool is designed for the MEGA FLOW valve which is available for all Fortris dunnage air bags. This fully proved system, that eliminated operator error, can fill your dunnage air bag 30 to 40% faster than any other compressed air filling system! The special de-signed venturi MEGA FLOW inflation tool leads the air stream in a special chamber and creates a vacuum to suck additional outside air into the bag. Polyester Woven Textile Lashing One-way cargo securing strapping with a high tensile strength is an economic and easy to handle alternative for conventional tension belts and/or complex wooden crates for load securing.

The usage of lashing is steadily increasing as a method for load securing on flat racks and in containers. Lash-ing helps to replace expensive multiway straps and to support and replace complex wooden crates.

Furthermore lashing straps are utilized to tie bulky goods together and to fix them on suitable carriers. In combination with our metal buckles and using appro-priate ratchets, reliable connections between product and carrier can be established, serving to protect your goods against all damages during transport.Lashing straps in widths of 32 to 40 mm with tear strengths from 2000 daN in linear traction up to 5000 daN.

Best results are often gained in combination with other products for load securing. Thus edge protectors pro-tect lashing straps against sharp edges just like our dunnage bags prevent products from moving inside the container.

Our lashing straps can be delivered in bulk coils, in car-tons,or in our handy and easy to carry dispenser bag.

Container SecuringBar WedgeThe International Bar Wedge increases the retention forces of the locking bar and prevents the locking bar from slipping. The International wedge is suitable for 2x6” beam or 4x4” beam or two connected 2x4” beams.

A quick glance and you can detect a theft or a manipu-lation of the cargo immediately. The bar wedge saves time and money. The use of expensive wooden struc-tures is eliminated. Suitable for intermodal containers.

Container AwningThe Fortris container awning is made to secure your cargo and save the people from falling goods when opening the container doors. It is designed for lighter goods and when ever loose cartons are loaded into the container. The system consists of four 25mm strapping belts of 5 meter with an attached hook on one end and a 2,3 x 2,3 meter PP woven sheet with four attached clamp locks, one on each corner. The four belts are made from our GW85PES strapping with a linear strength of 1000 daN. That is strong enough to hold the first rows of cartons safely back in the container. The final cross lashing make this system far stronger than most container netting systems.

Cambuckle StrapThis simple transport belt can be used in any appli-cation where it is only a temporary need to fix some cargo onto a transporting unit.

Fast and easy to apply to your cargo and it can be used many times. The belts are available with 25mm and 32mm width and have a system strength of 1000 to 1500 daN and is safe to use for any cargo up to 1000KG. For safety reasons it is wise always to use one extra belt.

Ratchet StrapsRatchet straps are suitable for a variety of tie down applications. Ratchet straps are used to secure loads for transit on flatbed trailors, in vans and lorries, etc. Our heavy duty ratchet straps have strength ratings of between 4000kgs to 5000kgs and come in lengths between 8m and 10m. In addition to the full ratchet strap sets we also supply just the webbing part with a hook and the ratchet handles only.

Ratchet straps allow for one handed tensioning and an easy release buckle for effortless tightening and, releasing of your load once at the destination. The range of heavy duty ratchet straps are made from soft, yet hard wearing polyester webbing.

Ratchet straps are used to hold down cargo or equip-ment during transport. Tie down straps are basically webbing that has tie down hardware sewn to it. The hardware allows the tie down strap to attach to the area surrounding the cargo or equipment, loop over the cargo or equipment, and/or attach to the cargo or equipment. It usually also provides a method of introducing ten-sion to hold the item in place. There are a variety of choices for hardware; ratchets, cambuckles, snap hooks, flat hooks, wire hooks, s-hooks, and much more.
