The IIEE-WRCSA Chapter sponsored the EE Quiz Bee last March 11, 2011 at Palindan, Elementary School, in Barangay Palindan, Town of Ibaan, Province of Batangas, Region IV, Philippines. The objective of the chapter is to follow the agenda of IIEE-National - to increase the population of electrical engineers in the Philippines. We inspired that our pupils in our home-country is the best instruments to follow our footstep to become an electrical engineer someday. Sponsoring the event makes the life of the pupils and their school happier because of they feel that we give an importance to their schools. We selected the remote areas or far from city proper were the pupils population is very less. Below were the brief summary of report from their School after the Quiz Bee. Fact: Palindan Elementary School has a population of Two Hundred and Seventy Nine (279) pupils with One (1) Principal and eight (8) teachers. It’s so timely that the school aside from the lessons taught in TLE or Technology and Livelihood Education or EPP in the elementary level conducted an Electrical Super Quiz Bee. The contest started with a simple prayer followed by the opening remarks and short explanation of the event that is going to happen given by the school principal, Mr. Mario M. Andal. He also explained the importance of electricity in day to day living. Different contests were done for the pupils to apply their skills learned in their EPP and Science subjects. Such activities are: The Electrical Quiz Bee, Parallel and series connection making. Contestants in the parallel and series circuit were provided by the materials to be used. They were given precautions to avoid any unnecessary incidents to happen. The contest was done successfully. The winners in each category were the following: Super Quiz Bee : First Place - Ailene S. Sabang Elementary School at Ibaan, Batangas has a population of Two Hundred and Eighty Seven (287) pupils with One (1) Principal and eight (8) teachers.

On the 10th day of March 2011, at 9:00 am in the morning, Sabang Elementary School, on cooperation with the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines Inc. Western Region chapter, Saudi Arabia held the 2011 Electro Quiz. The said event conquers a theme of “Economic Development through Clean and Affordable Electricity.”

Sabang Elementary School has a population of 287. Electro Quiz and Contest applying ideas and knowledge of students in practical approach was held simultaneously last March 10, 2011. Science teachers from Grade III – VI act as proctors namely: Mrs. Emelita Gamboa, Mrs. Judith Dimaano, and Mrs. Marcelina Coliat and the principal Mrs. Florence C. Aguila served as the Quiz Master. The winners were awarded medals and cash prizes.

The winners for the Electro Quiz were: Paula Untalan-First Place, Miraflor Perez-Second Place, Jay Christian Soria – Third Place,Harriet Anne de Chavez – Fourth Placeand Joshua Peramo – Fifth Place.

The winners for the practical approach were Hulyo Andal, Jeffson Quinery, Giovanni Mendoza, Timothy Paña and Jomari Fulgencio.

Bungahan Elementary School at Ibaan, Batangas has a population of 181 pupils and 7 teachers.

It conducted an Electrical Quiz Bee last July 19, 2010. It has 26 participants. The participants are Grade – IV to Grade – VI pupils. This Quiz Bee involves basic knowledge on electricity such as electrical terminologies, abbreviations/symbols, persons and simple formulas.

The program started with an opening prayer lead by Mrs. Rose Ann A. Palma, a grade – IV teacher. It was followed by opening remarks by Sir Albert De Chavez, our School Head. He discussed about the mechanics, rules and prizes was read by Sir Joey Paul B. Endaya, a grade – IV teacher. Teacher Maribel P. Garcia, a grade – II teacher, serves as the scorer, Teacher Irene T. Reyes, a grade – III teacher, as the timer, Sir Joey Paul as the quiz master and Teacher Iryn P. De Castro. A grade – I teacher, as the proctor.

The contest proper started. First, the quizmaster asks the items, every participants raise their drill board to show their answer. Then, the proctor verifies their answer. After all the questions have been raised, the verification and tabulation of scores followed. All in all, the contest runs smoothly and accordingly. The winners are as follows:

1st Place – Janice M. Caiga, Grade – VI 2nd Place – Jomella Q. Aňonuevo, Grade – VI 3rd Place – Vincent D. Monzones, Grade – VI

4th Place – Kimberly C. Barza, Grade - V 5th Place – Ian Cris A. Vilela, Grade – VI

With the advent of modern technological advancement, the conduct of School based Electrical and Super Science Quiz Bee at Ibaan Central School, Ibaan, Batangas is very timely and necessary. In cooperation with the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Inc.(IIEE) which funded the quiz bee, Ibaan Central is grateful that we were chosen as one of the barrio schools to be a part of the IIEE’s commitment in designing valuable and informative activities fir the professional growth and advancement of technical skills even for our youths. This kind of activity is a big help for our pupils for they were totally inspired to pursue technical studies in the near future. A week before the quiz bee proper, pupils were properly oriented by Science teachers from Grades IV,V and VI respectively. They were Mrs. Lita C. Pasia, Mr. Erickson T. Gutierrez and Mrs. Annabelle E. Dilay. Questions were formulated based on the Philippine Learning Competencies which covers the topic on Energy and Electricity.

The Super Science Quiz Bee and Electrical Wiring Installation Contest using series/ parallel connection were held simultaneously last Feb. 17, 2010. Science teachers from Grade III served as proctors; namely, Mrs. Nicanora Conti, Mrs. Rebecca Capuno and Mrs. Amor Pereña. Mrs. Senonia Magnaye served as the technical support staff for the powerpoint presentation of the test questions.

Mrs. Lita C. Pasia served as the quiz master, Mrs. Annabelle E. Dilay for documentation and validation aof the test questions and Mr. Erickson T. Gutierrez as an over-all chairman of the Quiz Bee.

Prior to the contest proper, a simple opening program was held at the school’ covered court. Mrs. Marita I. Pateña, Principal II of Ibaan central School, led the day’s affair. In her opening remarks, she emphasized the value of having understood electricity, its uses and its sources. She also acknowledged the people behind IIEE for rendering such activity extended to our school. This surely serves as an avenue for enriching the young minds of our pupils and as inspiration for them to take electrical courses in the future.

2009 Theme: “Achieving Excellence Amidst Global Challenges”

Pupils of Barangay Coliat Elementary School, Ibaan, Batangas belong to the 80th- 85th percentile rank in Science and Electricity in Grade IV-VI were selected by their teachers and participated in the Quiz Bee which comprised a total of 30 pupils in all. A ten-item test questions were given in the EASY round for 1pt. each, 5 AVERAGE questions for 2pts. Each and then 5 question for DIFFICULT round for 3pts. each. The questions were made by Mrs. Nicetas A. Castillo and were orally by the school principal Mrs. Amelia S. Villanueva. The participants were asked to write their answers in the drill board. Simultaneously, a contest on extension cord making, parallel and series connections were also held through the guidance Mrs. Jessica Pila as part of Science Lesson in Grade VI.

A culminating program followed after the contest proper. Shekinah Orense (First) Melvin Antenor (Second) and Fredrick John Gamboa (Third) topped the Quiz Bee while the group of Christian Reyes, Romel Tejada, Marvin Laroza, Alvin Demate and Jonnrey Cabi-ao showed excellent performance in making the series and parallel connections.

Medals were awarded to all the winners.

2008 Theme: “Responding to Global Electrical Safety, Energy Efficiency & Environment Protection”

The Jamesians Electrical Society Quiz Bee was held at Audio Visual room of Saint James Academy, Ibaan, Batangas last July 11, 2008 (Friday) not on July 15 (due to hectic schedule) at 8:00AM – 11:00AM. Fifty(50) top caliber from junior and senior high school students joint the EE Quiz Bee competition. They started at single elimination round and the remained was only twelve(12) contestants. Finally, in difficult round, only three(3) contestants gained the highest points and declared as a winner. Mr. Noel Castro was the Principal and organizer of Electrical Quiz Bee in high school of Saint James Academy.

The students were very much happy for Electrical Quiz Bee especially for the winners when they received their medal of sacrifices. One of their teacher said, this is their first time to have an EE Quiz Bee sponsored by the IIEE-WRCSA in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. They know a lot of schools in Philippines and luckily they choose their school to provide the interest of students about the subject which is electrical. Interestingly, the students were very much aware now what course they will take for the next school year.

2008 Theme: “Responding to Global Electrical Safety, Energy Efficiency & Environment Protection”

The Barangay Talaibon was located in remote area of Ibaan, Batangas. The Electrical Quiz Bee was held at Audio Visual room of Dr. Juan A. Pastor Memorial National High school last July 15, 2008 at 8:00AM – 1:00PM. The fourth year high school students joined for Electrical Quiz Bee sponsored by IIEE-WRCSA of Jeddah.

There were one hundred(100) high school students participated in Electrical Quiz Bee. Mr. Julian G. Rianzares was the Principal II, Mrs. Fe R. Caringal was the Assistant Principal (Head Teacher III) and Mrs. Adora Agquiz was the organizer of Electrical Quiz Bee of fourth(4th) year high school. The Dr. Juan A. Pastor Memorial High School were thankful for Electrical Quiz Bee especially for the winners and faculty members.

2007 Theme: “Global Partner in Electric Power and Reform Advocacies”

The seminar entitled “An Orientation seminar for PEE, REE Examination” was held at AVR of Golden Gate College (GGC), Batangas City last January 30, 2007. Engr. Jonathan D. Dimaano of IIEE-WRCSA was the coordinator, Engr. Gerardo E. Dimaunahan of IIEE-WRCSA 2006 President was the resource speaker and Engr. Ma. Victoria C. Gamab, the adviser of GGC-EE Department in Batangas was the contact person. The two former officers, Engr. Dimaano and Engr. Dimaunahan were both in vacation during that time in Philippines and they went to Golden Gate College to conduct the Orientation Seminar. The aims of the seminar were to orient the students of how to take an REE exam and also how to prepare a thesis for the PEE in the near future. The IIEE-WRCSA officers became interested also to know the population of electrical engineering students of GGC. Miss Grace O. Ilagan, the JIIEE-GGC President said the 1st year were only 6 students, the 2nd year were 4 students, the 3rd year were 2 students, the 4th year were 6 students and the 5th year were 6 students. All in all, the electrical engineering students in GGC were 24. They are too small in terms of number of students compared to other colleges in the Philippines.

During the beginning of semester, the JIIEE, Batangas City had experienced a lot of ups and downs. They had been through different tests in character. But eventually, they survived. They all here today to test the Academic skills. They know everyone was excited to start the year’s academic contest as part of EE Week Celebration. But they want to take this opportunity to thank the co-Electrical Engineering people from Saudi Arabia who have chosen our school as their host school for this contest. Although they are not here to grace this contest, They are sure they are proud that they have chosen to sponsor us.

Their sacrifices were worth it. Again, thanks to the IIEE WRCSA officers. They hope that the IIEE WRCSA would continue to support their projects and eventually will have a good relationship with their organization.

Also, with the support that the faculty and staff of the college of engineering together with the University of Batangas Administration , we had it all done well.
