“Skills, knowledge and work ethic for the 21st century”

Career & Technical Education Highlights

Cosmetology 2 (Ms. Scardino’s class) went to Claudia’s Salon in Liberty,NY. The students participated in a mock interview for cosmetology related positions by a panel of 3 licensed cosmetologists. The interviews are part of the Technical Reading/Writing portfolio project. This was a very positive experience for the class.

Culinary I and II went to NYC on a restaurant history tour. The class toured Greenwich Village and SoHo and were able to taste food from eight culinary restaurants with diverse food choices. All the students that attended loved the experience and the opportunity provided by SCBOCES.

Soap Box Derby – The brother and sister team of Tyler Hemion (AT2) and Kateryna Vanname (ECE) participated in the Soap Box Derby with the Career & Tech soap box car. Tyler and Kateryna didn’t place this year but they enjoyed representing CTE. Good Job!

Students were very busy in June preparing for and taking their end of the year exams (NOCTI, STAR, and POST TESTS).

CTE guidance staff administered the senior survey to our graduating students and upon completion each senior received their tickets for graduation.

The class toured the facility, the quarry, and the students learned more about the process of producing different types of stone. The students also toured both the concrete and asphalt plants to see them in full operation. Students visited the quality control lab, performed concrete slump tests, as well as % air tests. Overall students were able to see all facets of the facility and daily operations that take place.

SkillsUSA – OPERATION GRATITUDE - Career & Tech SkillsUSA chapter organized a collection drive for our troops. Some of the

items donated were 32 hand sanitizers, 211 toiletry gift sets, 29 lips balms, as well as deodorants, sunscreens, lotions, hair care, and dental care products. There was a total of 473 items. A note will go in each box thanking the troops for their service. As one of the SkillsUSA presidents, LiaMae Zeininger (TVCS) said "As a community, we know that this endeavor is

nothing compared to what they are doing for us; however, we wanted to make a difference, and let our soldiers know we care!

STUDENT OF THE MARKING PERIOD– The final student of the marking period recognition was held on June 2nd. The criteria was most improved and CTE staff were considering student grades, attendance, and work ethic and/or attitude to determine the most deserving students. This has been a great way to honor students and welcome families to our facilities and spotlight what we do in CTE.
