SessionAnnouncement:

Inrecentyears,rapidadvancesintheapplicationofhighlyresolvedsedimentologicaland

geochemicalstudies,incombinationwithvariousgeochronometrictechniquesand

chronostratigraphictools,haveopenedupnewvistasintheinvestigationofpaleorecordsof

atmosphericdustloadingusingaeoliansedimentdeposits.Asthesesedimentsare

widespreadonthecontinents,novelmultiproxyinvestigationsenhanceourunderstanding

oflongtermaeoliandustdynamicsandclimatevariability,linkingintratointerhemispheric

climatesontimescalesrangingfromglacialinterglacialto(sub)millennial.

Innovativecontributionsarewelcomeontheapplicationofnewandestablished

methodologicalapproaches;resultsonstratigraphy,geochronology,paleoclimatology,

paleoenvironmentalassessment;andgeoarchaeologyofaeoliandepositsintheNorthern

andSouthernHemispheres.Weespeciallyencouragepapersthateither

(a)utilizehighresolutionloess&dustrecordstoreconstructthetiminganddynamicsof

pastsynopticatmosphericcirculationpatternsonregionalandinterhemisphericscales;

(b)establishprecisecorrelationsanddefineatmosphericmechanismsthatlinkcontinental

loess/dustrecordswithaeolianrecordsinicecoresand/ortheoceans;or

(c)addressthechallengingefforttoincorporatethedustproxiesofpastatmospheric

processesintoclimatemodels.

Thissessionaimstoprovidealivelyforumtoreviewfundamentalscientificstepsinthe

studyofaeoliansedimentarchivesanddiscussnewinnovativeapproachesthatenhanceour

understandingofthoserecords.Submissionsbystudentsandyoungscientistsare

particularlyencouraged!
