What Are the Awards?

The Lions Young Leaders inService Awards recognize youthwho provide significant levels ofservice to their communities. Thereare two award levels:

The Silver Seal Award is foryouth who provide at least 50hours of service during a 12-month period.

The Gold Seal Award is foryouth who provide at least 100hours of service during a 12-month period.

Each selected recipient receives a let-ter and certificate from Lions ClubsInternational, presented by the localLions club at a recognition event.

Who May Participate?

The Lions Young Leaders inService Awards are available toyoung people ages 12 to 18. Youthare encouraged to apply through aschool or youth group workingwith the local Lions club.

What Types of ServiceQualify?

The Lions Young Leaders inService Awards are intended toreward and encourage activities

that have a significant impact inmeeting the needs of local commu-nities. Types of service couldinclude:

Service with community or reli-gious organizations, agencies,institutions or the Lions club.

Service through school-basedgroups or courses.

Individual efforts to help othersand improve the community.

How Does a Young PersonApply?

Obtain a Youth ServiceTracking Form from a partici-pating school, Leo club oryouth group.

Complete and record servicehours, to accumulate at least 50(Silver Seal Award) or at least 100(Gold Seal Award) hours of serv-ice within the 12-month period.

In advance of the deadline, sub-mit a completed Youth ServiceTracking Form to the adultleader of the participatingschool, Leo club or youthgroup.

Make a copy of this page toretain for your information.

Fill in your name as contact onthe mini-poster on the oppositeside of this flyer, then post it for

students to see. Also announcethe awards in meetings, publica-tions and face-to-face conversa-tions with young people.Encourage them to apply.

Distribute copies of the YouthService Tracking Form to inter-ested young people. Keep a listof those who take the forms,and ask them about theirprogress on a regular basis.

Collect Youth Service TrackingForms in advance of the dead-line.

Summarize information from theYouth Service Tracking Forms onthe School/Youth Group AwardCertification Form. Make sure allinformation is legible. LionsClubs International will use thiscompleted form to issue lettersand certificates for award recipi-ents.

Certify that youth have per-formed the service hours bysigning the completedSchool/Youth Group AwardCertification Form. Return theform to the Lions club inadvance of the deadline.

Coordinate with the Lions clubto announce and publicize theawards. Arrange for recipientsto attend the awards presenta-tion. Plan to attend yourself.

Include the Lions YoungLeaders in Service Awards inyour schools or groups futureplans.
