About London College of Music

2 Welcome

Page 3: London College of Music - UWL

This is my first welcome to LCM Live as Director of LCM and I am delighted to introduce such a wonderfully vibrant programme of events for the college. As part of my role, I am also thrilled to welcome you as the Artistic Director for the forthcoming Ealing Music and Film Festival.

UWL are delighted to be working in partnership with Ealing Music and Film Festival Trust and we look forward to celebrating this new venture with pre-launch events for the festival on Wednesday 27th November. Highlights on this day will include a Lunchtime Concert, “Debussy’s Pan” featuring LCM PhD student Ashley Westmacott (flute) and Sally Goodworth (piano), and an Evening of Jazz showcasing LCM’s talented Jazz performers. Both are being held at the St Mary’s Road campus and we look forward to welcoming you. The festival itself runs from the 12th to the 16th February. Look out for details in the next edition of LCM Live, the ensuing Festival Programme and on the LCM Live and EMFF websites.

This semester features a plethora of LCM productions from students studying in our thriving Performing Arts courses. Tickets for shows such as Hello Dolly and Anything Goes can be booked using our Student Union Website at uwlsu.com/lcmlive. We are also delighted to be returning to St Mary’s Church in December when LCM Camerata and LCM Chorus will be performing a wonderful selection of music.

On behalf of the staff and students of London College of Music, I would like to thank you all for the support you continue to give LCM Live. I very much look forward to seeing you at one of our forthcoming events.

Content Warning: Hooves and Wings contains references to sexual violence. Age advisory: Suitable for ages 16+.

Hooves and Wings is the inaugural graduate production from BA (Hons) Acting, Writing and Directing, a unique

and exciting course in theatre-making which seeks to develop all-round ‘actor-creators’. This play has been commissioned by London College of Music in association with the Criterion New Writing Programme, and forms the centrepiece of a programme of original work. Fear is dancing in there, in the room on the third floor. Hooves on the table. Can you hear? Listen – something else is in there too… Flap, flap, flap, a resplendent thing with wings; it is magnificent, and horrible and magnificent and it will not stay still, and it has a voice. It has a voice… Seven people living in a disused office block, each lodged on the shifting tectonic plates of then and now. Hooves and Wings is a story about belonging, about power and vulnerability, and the patchwork of memory. How do you step from the light into the dark? And what if you fall?

Jerry Herman’s energetic Hello, Dolly! is a musical filled with charisma and with heart. Matchmaker Dolly Levi is a widow, a matchmaker, and also a professional meddler –-but everything changes when she decides that the next match she needs to make is to find someone for herself. Set in New York City at the turn of the century, Hello Dolly! is boisterous and charming from start to finish. Hello, Dolly! features such memorable songs as “Before the Parade Passes By,” “It Only Takes a Moment,” “Put on Your Sunday Clothes,” and – of course – the title number, “Hello, Dolly!” Dolly herself is one of the strongest and richest starring roles for a woman ever written for the musical theatre.
