To say that the teenaged Jez Pereira was lucky enough to be propelled to the upper echelons of the Mumbai music scene would be a lie.

It wasn’t luck. It was down to talent, determination and his unique signature freestyle sound all wrapped up in one of the nicest, most modest and insightful guys you’ll ever meet.

After firmly making his presence known at home Jez turned his gaze towards global success. His journey began with a move to London in 2006 where his skills, enthusiasm and ability to source an endless supply of ear-gasmic dance floor smash hits ensured his instant success and a formidable reputation to suit.

This led to a long list of main room appearances such as the Paul van Dyke 2008 album launch party, X-Press 2 at Bedrock and regular bookings for The Gallery at Ministry of Sound and with his profile

growing in the UK it wasn’t long before the rest of the world came knocking…

Jez is now doing insane bookings around the globe that most djs couldn’t even comprehend, such as Gumball Rally after parties, Pacha67 yacht parties, a residency at the Armani Prive Club in Dubai for Fashion overdose, Fashion TV’s anniversary party in Cannes during the Film Festival, Red Bull product launch parties in Amsterdam & Tokyo, headlining the Barbados Music Festival as well as Burning Man!

Jez’s has performed with some of the most important names in a wide range of industries and he’s been seen djing along side and back to back with the likes of Will I Am at The Arts Club, Just Be (Bushwacka) at Radio Rooftop NYE, Idris Elba at The Box, Erick Morillo at the TAO nightclub in Las Vegas and he was even caught performing alongside 4 times Grammy nominated legend, Steve “Silk” Hurley and DJ Skip. By now Jez is used to looking up at his crowd and seeing the likes of F1 driver Jensen Button or HRH

Prince Harry up in the club! All of this success has gained him mass global recognition and praise including a nomination for the “best dj” category at the prestigious London Club & Bar Awards 2014.

Despite touring around the world Jez has still been able to find the time to get in the studio and has firmed up a solid relationship with the mighty S&S Records, Chicago. They asked him to remix Steve “Silk” Hurley’s global No1 smash hit, Jack Your Body, which Jez co-wrote witch Elijah Collins. As if this wasn’t enough, they even asked him to remix the late and very very great Frankie Knuckles signature track, Baby Wants To Ride! Definitely two of Jez’s biggest honors in his production career to date.

Any dj could easily lose him self in all of the glitz and the glamour but throughout this incredible journey Jez has managed to remain humble and gracious and never misses an opportunity to put something back in to the world. He is on a mission to spread his personal message of perseverance, self-belief and positivity through his “Jez Believe” project.

The list of achievements both on and off the dance floor goes on and on but we feel it’s time you check out what all the hype is about. As he often says himself, “Let the music do the talking.”

AN INCREDIBLE JOURNEYHis exclusive residency at London's most sought after terrace venue Radio Rooftop bar finished off the year in spectacular style with an unforgettable night alongside Just Be (Bushwacka). Jez was also invited to perform sets at the private parties of superstars Will.I.Am and Idris Elba at London’s most uber-cool venues: The Arts Club, The Box & Shoreditch House.

JEZ THE GLOBE-TROTTERJez’s global domination continued to spread in 2013. His floor shaking sets were heard in multiple exotic locations around the world which included Italy, India, Ibiza & Dubai not to mention his return to End Club in Bogota, Colombia for a consecutive third year. He was also asked to play for the industry elites at Fashion TV’s anniversary party in Cannes during the Cannes Film Festival.

Oh and just in case you thought it was a mirage from afar, no, it was actually Jez Pereira causing a dance- induced sand storm while ripping up the Nevada desert at the World’s coolest festival - Burningman!

JEZ BELIEVEJez continued to spread his message of perseverance, self-belief and positivity through his “Jez Believe” project. He kicked it of with a visit to an East London secondary school where he gave motivational talks to the ambitious and captivated students who found the talks encouraging and inspiring. This was followed by a visit to the British Foreign Office for a networking event where Jez was able to convince others to join and fight for this just cause.

2014-2015 looks set to be equally monumental, kicking off with London Fashion week and a head-lining gig for Fashion Icon Julien Macdonald’s prestigious afterparty.

An exclusive private booking in Marrakesh saw Jez whisked off by private jet to the outlandishly lavish surroundings of the Four Seasons for a long weekend show-casing his unique sound and talent.

The jet-setting continues with an up-coming tour of India’s top clubs and further bookings in Dubai, Ibiza, France and Colombia. All this whilst still finding time to re-mix big name tracks for S&S Records.…

finish my studies. At the time I was listening

to a lot of pop music, usually chart stuff, and

a lot of music coming out of Europe.”

Born in Bombay, in India’s largest Catholic

community, Pereira came from a moderately

strict background. However, despite this, he

started his DJ career in 1993, “It all started

in my school with this guy named Gerrad

aka Popsy who played at the local school

functions and brought in his own sound

system. So one day, I decided to approach

him while he was setting up and said; ‘I would

really like to work with you?’ He then said

‘Hey! You’re still in school but come and see

me once you finish.’” Keeping this in mind,

Pereira approached Popsy again as soon as

he finished his studies. His first job in his new

vocation was to carry the speaker boxes

and this went on for three months until he

got his first gig. “I remember him calling me

saying, ‘It’s a long drive, be at mine for 3am

in the morning.’ I was so excited that I still

remember the date - February 13th, 1993. I

went to see him and he explained the ins and

outs of sound system and that was the start

of my DJ music career to the present day.”

surroundings at his new residency, Radio

in Aldwych, DJ Jez Pereira and I met up to

chat about his career. From the roof terrace,

you get sublime views of London from all

directions and it’s easy to find yourself just

sitting there and gazing at the amazing beauty

of London, sighting such landmarks as Tower

Bridge, The Shard, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and

the River Thames. Coming back to reality, DJ

Jez Pereira begins by giving me an insight into

how it all began, “My journey started back in

India and very early on I felt drawn to music.

However, I was young and made a promise to

one of Europe’s finest DJs within the genre

of electro and deep house. He describes his

early days as a DJ in relation to his religion,

“I remember everything feeling quite

westernised, especially the music because it

was a very important part of our culture, as

with fanfares and weddings, and as a Catholic

the dances were very much around the

Waltz, Foxtrot and Rock and Roll.” Pereira

went on to explain that 80,000 of them

were living in Orlem in Bombay, the highest

Catholic population in India. “Every function

was music infused with all the elements of

that period including 80s disco, groups like

Boney M was huge, Eddie Grant and Abba

was another one. I grew up listening to all of

that. That’s how it all got to me and when I

joined Popsy, that’s his pet name, but we call

him Gerrad.’ As he remembers his mentor,

Pereira breaks out into a grin as if Popsy is

standing right before our eyes. “But his real

name was Gerrad, Gerrad Pereira; there

were a few of us.”

To say that the young Jez Pereira was

lucky enough to be propelled to the upper

echelons of the Mumbai music scene would

be a lie, because it wasn’t pure luck that he

got to where he is today, it was through

talent and his determination to make music

flow like it does when he spins those decks.

Having just played for three months, Pereira

was approached by a man who complimented

him on his skills while playing out one night

during Easter. “He said that his cousin owned

night clubs so he asked me to call him the

following week.” It turned out that this man’s

cousin was Daryus Panthakey who ran a

company called Esoterics and ran the biggest

clubs in Bombay. Looking to expand their

business, they set up a meeting with Pereira

to discuss his past experiences working as a

DJ and the possibility of working with them,

Jez Pereira, electric beats and Dubai - a lethal combination of ecstatic sounds touches base at this exquisite coastal location in Jumeirah. Dubai’s marine beach resort is a location sought by many, offering unrivalled views of the Arabian Gulf and Dubai’s impressive skyline. Tonight, unlike no other will see the dynamic skills and presence of Jez Pereira playing at the official launch of Innovo Encore at Club Boudoir. Established in 2002, Club Boudoir pulls no punches with its premium high end boutique, ranked as one of the most exclusive venues in the city. “Dubai is quite amazing, there’s a lot to take in,” says Jez Pereira. “It’s actually my third visit here and it touches me every time I visit Jumeirah. This time I was invited by Alex Mir, who hosts DNA events, the scene here is really beginning to grow. He has a great crowd following here in Dubai. We first met in London, where I was playing, and through a mutual friend we got together and talked about events. We found Dubai was something we both wanted to be a part of.”

When asked why he thought the dance scene in Dubai has grown

significantly, Jez answered: “I think its foreign investment, it’s becoming a hub that connects the Far East with western interests.” With music being an intricate part, he goes on to explain, “There’s a global coming together: with China and Hong Kong, people are travelling, commuting. Emirates has moved into one of those centre points where people are beginning to connect, and Dubai is serving as one of those ports. Dubai comes with a lifestyle, it has a cleansing environment, and it’s cosy with a scene which is evidently growing.” Recalling his first time in the country, he told me, “I remember when I first came here; I was greeted at the airport by this very well-dressed man holding up a card with my name on it. He escorted me to a Bentley and I was like right, this is Dubai! Then the driver asked me, ‘Have you ever been to Dubai?’ I said no, this is my first trip here. He then said, ‘It’s your first trip to Dubai and you’re staying at the Armani Hotel. Wow! You’re in for a big treat.’” And in for a treat he was indeed, as he

exclaims with a smile, “Arrrh! O’ man, it’s nice. Everything from mother boards to mechanical parts with shiny bits.” With Beach Jumeirah, literally meaning ‘burning embers’ in Arabic, I wondered what our host would bring to this Far Eastern promise. Mainly comprising of low rise private dwellings, Jumeirah is divided into three sections with an affluent coastal beach, with Jez set to bring some undivided heat to what we are already somewhat familiar with.I asked Jez about any future collaboration with Alex Mir after Dubai, to which he replied, “Club Boudoir followed a successful launch with Alex Mir, which he did a great job on the reopening of the venue. And right now there’s five other clubs opening; investment is really booming over there. It’s good what they’re doing with the space! Alex has come up with some great ideas and its working. He’s really been the main man behind the scenes and with DNA being one of his ventures, the launch of Innovo Encore was a success and the crowd was a pleasure to play for.”With music heralded as the world’s melting pot, what does one come back to once they have seen the spontaneous change in lifestyle and attitude when visiting a country in the Far East with ever changing
