Technical The Galvanized Steel Frames

The Insta Frame is a factory fabricated, bolted, bi-directional moment frame made from cold-formed, high-tensile galvanized steel and structural steel components.

Steel Components: Our Insta Structure Frames leverages mostly cold-formed, high-tensile strength, light-gauge galvanized steel. This sustainable material is cut to tolerances of 1/8th of an inch and pre-drilled for rapid on-site assembly. Additionally, the steel is galvanized with a G-60 or G-90 rating, ensuring it is resistant to rust and corrosion. Compared to traditional wood construction, steel does not warp or bloat, and it is an engineered material with precisely known and calculated load-bearing capacities. As a result, a steel structure can be designed more accurately, and with less waste, than a traditional structure.

All elements of our systems are designed to be able to be moved by hand or small machinery, and to either be bolted or screwed together on site. No on-site cutting, welding, or fabrication.

ABOUT STEEL FRAMING There are many reasons why steel framing has come to the forefront as one of the best and most feasible alternative building materials

for residential and commercial construction. Steel is a superior construction material with many benefits.

General Benefits Most cost-effective mid-rise structural material.

Shorter and predictable construction schedule.

Highest strength-to-weight ratio of any building material.

100% recyclable.

68% industry recycling rate.

Non-combustible - does not burn nor contribute fuel to the spread of a fire.

Inorganic - will not rot, warp, split, crack or creep.

Dimensionally stable - does not expand or contract with moisture content.

Consistent material quality - produced in strict accordance with national standards, no regional variations.

Benefits to the Builder Substantial discounts on builders risk insurance.

Lighter than other framing materials.

Non-combustible.

Easy material selection - no need to cull or sort the pile and small punch list.

Saves job-site time with ease of panelization off-site.

Straight walls and square corners.

Windows and doors open and close as they should.

Less scrap and waste (2% for steel vs. 20% for lumber).

Price stability - price spikes are extremely rare.

Consumer perceives steel as better.

Benefits to the Consumer There are many reasons why homeowners are turning to steel framing:

High strength results in safer structures, less maintenance and slower aging of structure.

Fire safety - doesn't burn or add fuel to the spread of a house fire.

Not vulnerable to termites.

Not vulnerable to any type of fungi or organism, including mold.

Less probability of foundation problems - less weight results in less movement.

Less probability of damage in an earthquake.

Lighter structure with stronger connections results in less seismic force.

Less probability of damage in high winds.

Stronger connections, screwed versus nailed.

HEIGHT ADVANTAGES FAST FACTS Steel does not change size or shape with changes in moisture content – which helps prevent cracks in finishes such as drywall and

stucco. When they get wet, both wood and brick will swell. When they dry out and cure, concrete and concrete block will shrink and form

shrinkage cracks.

Steel is isotropic: meaning it has the same dimensional properties in all directions. Since there is no “grain,” the strength of steel is

the same up and down, side-to-side, and in all loading directions.

Steel does not warp, shrink, or crack in normal loading and framing applications.

Steel is ductile, and will bend and stretch when overloaded, rather than cracking or breaking like unreinforced concrete or masonry

Steel is 100% non-combustible. Therefore, height and area restrictions on combustible materials do not apply to cold-formed steel.

The International Building Code (IBC) and other building codes limit how tall a building can be or how much area can be encompassed by the building based on several factors. The primary factor is the combustibility of the products used for the building. Table 503 of the IBC

categorizes buildings by construction type and use group, and gives the maximum building height in feet or stories, and the maximum area in square feet. Cold-formed steel (CFS), being totally non-combustible, can help developers and builders use land more efficiently by

allowing taller and wider buildings for the same occupancy classification. For mid-rise buildings in the 4 to 9 story range, CFS is much

more cost effective than heavier construction. It also has a more predictable schedule that can shave months off the total project cycle

time.

FIRE RESISTANCE

Steel is a non-combustible, fire resistant material and will not feed a fire.

On average, wood structural members or framing rank third as the first-ignited material in home fires according to the National Fire

Protection Association.

Building with steel can reduce cost of construction insurance as well as homeowners insurance premiums.

Page 10: Loom Crafts's Prefab Structures

SEISMIC Before you think about a wood or block or concrete building, especially one over three stories, you better read some important facts. Remember: when the ground starts to shake, steel provides safe, reliable, and ductile structures. Steel has great historical

performance in earthquakes!

FAST FACTS Durability and long-term consistent performance – that’s what you get with steel. Reduced structural capacity due to dry-rot,

termites, or mold will not compromise a steel structure in an earthquake.

Steel absorbs energy. Unlike concrete and masonry, steel bends without breaking. The same material that absorbs energy in a car

crash also provides benefits in an earthquake.

Steel is lighter. Heavier structures have greater inertia: when the ground starts to shake, they want to stand still; thus greater forces

are imparted into heavier structures in earthquakes. Steel is lighter than its structural equivalent in wood, concrete, or masonry.

Steel is consistent. Steel does not have a weak direction or weak grain, does not depend upon water/cement ratios or mix design for

its strength, and is easy to inspect for seismic.

Steel is connected. Using screws, pins, bolts and welds, steel framing has a positive, consistent load path. Steel does not have

corrosive chemicals or moisture that can corrode or degrade connectors.

TERMITES

Termites cause more damage than fire, floods, and storms combined.

Cold-formed steel (CFS) is one of the recognized methods for compliance with the termite-resistant construction requirements of the

International Residential Code. Choose CFS and do away with the worries about exclusions in the fine print of warranties for treated wood or the presence of chemical treatments in your building or soil.

CFS is inorganic and does not provide a food source for termites.

There is no need for annual termite treatments with steel.

CFS provides a healthy building with no off-gassing from chemical termite treatments, or pressure treated lumber.

Termite damage is rarely covered by insurance. Build it right and avoid costly problems later.

Page 11: Loom Crafts's Prefab Structures

SUSTAINABILITY / GREEN BUILDING

FAST FACTS Steel is one of the most sustainable building materials in the world. The industry has embraced the common sense approach that reducing its impact on the environment is not only the right thing to do, but it makes

economic sense.

Since the early 1990s, the steel industry has reduced its energy use to produce a ton of steel by

approximately 1/3.

More than 95% of the water used in the steel making process is recycled and returned - often cleaner than

when it was taken from the source.

Every piece of steel used in construction contains recycled content. Further, all steel can be recovered and

recycled again and again into new high quality products.

Steel is durable, safe, and strong. It is not susceptible to rot, termites, or mold. Steel used for framing will

last from hundreds to over a thousand years due to its zinc coating, a natural element. Steel structures require less material (both reduced weight and reduced volume) to carry the same loads as concrete or masonry or wood structures.

Steel is dimensionally stable: it will not warp, split, or creep - making it durable and built to last. Don’t waste time and dollars on

costly call backs. Minimize cracking and pops in drywall and other finishes with CFS framing.

Steel and Green Building Codes and Standards

INSURANCE

Cold-formed steel (CFS) is non-combustible, which reduces the risk of property loss during construction and over the life of the

structure.

Reduced risk of property loss leads to lower insurance premiums for builders and owners.

Glass wool is a thermal insulation that consists of intertwined and flexible glass fibers, which causes it to "package" air, resulting in a low density that can be varied through compression and binder content. It can be a loose fill material, blown into attics, or, together with an active binder sprayed on the underside of structures, sheets and panels that can be used to insulate flat surfaces such as cavity wall insulation, ceiling tiles, curtain walls as well as ducting. It is also used for soundproofing.

Cavity Wall Insulation is one of the saf-est practices for wall insulation application. Twiga Insul boards are placed in between the cavity of the wall leaves. The insulation remains isolated from external and internal environment of the building.

Dry Wall Insulation helps attain acoustic privacy and fire rating. Twiga Insul slabs are to be placed in the cavities of the grid structure for partition wall. Both side of the grid is then covered with OSB Boards and single or multiple layers of Gypsum. When it is applied for Prefab structures the construction helps to provide thermal efficiency of the building, too.

Twiga is the leading manufacturer of glass wool insulation in India having a twenty-five year track record of supplying domestic and export customers with world-class products for thermal and acoustic insulation.

An ISO 9001:2008 certified company, Twiga commenced its operations in 1979 and is a technology licensee of Isover Saint Gobain, the leading manufacturer of insulations worldwide.

Technical

SYSTEXX wall coverings are especially stable and long-lived, work against tears and are perfect if you’re looking for a hygienic, active-breathing solution which is completely harmless to health.

Internal Walls Finish

WHY IS SYSTEXX SO STABLE AND LONG-LIVED?

A high-quality finish provides glass yarns with an extremely strong bond. That’s why SYSTEXX is extremely resistant to

physical damage, bridges over recesses in the underlying surface caused by hard impacts and works against the spread

of shrinkage and hair-line tears thanks to its great tensile strength.

GLASS FABRIC - THE RIGHT SOLUTION The base material consists of very thin glass yarn spun from molten glass. The glass can be pulled into the finest

filaments, forming the base material for glass fabrics. Compared to traditional wall coverings, textile glass is extremely

impact resistant and hard-wearing. It is particularly suitable for use in busy areas. Compared with other wall coverings,

its wall-strengthening properties are considerably higher. This gives glass fabrics the special ability to bridge existing

cracks and prevent the formation of new cracks. Walls are also protected from damage through impact or abrasion.
