PARENT OPINION SURVEY– PLEASE RETURN.
If you received a Parent Opinion Survey with your newsletter last week, could you please complete it and return it to school tomorrow. The parent opinion survey will provide the school with valuable information in relation to communication, procedures and practices at Nilma PS. Please take time to review questions relating to student learning, home activities and expectations, extracurricular opportunities for students (including things like sporting activities, camps, group days, select groups participating in musical events), transition and social learning. Last year we received 90%. This year we hope for 100%! We would appreciate your feedback to develop a school culture that we all have input into. We value your ideas. The survey is confidential and results are used to further develop the goals of the school. 1. Complete questionnaire 2. Put in envelope provided and seal the
envelope 3. Write the name and year level/s of child/
ren on back 4. Return to school by Friday 31st July 2015. Please take time to complete the survey and support Nilma Primary School to build an exciting and stimulating school.

HOMEGROUP HAPPENINGS!
Design and Technology
Year 6 students participating in Wood Work
sessions with volunteer Doug Salt.
This week in Blue 5,4,3 we made “Trioramas”, which is a Diorama made into a 3D triangle shape. We had to create a scene from a book or movie we have read or watched this year. It was fun to do. It was challenging to stick
different material on to it. We used a lot of material. We used scrap paper, pipe cleaners, icy pole sticks and feathers. We had to make a piece of paper into a
triangle which was tricky. There were scenes from camping, beaches and animals on farms. We all got to share our work and explain what book or movie it was from. Hopefully we will get to do it again sometime this year. Below is a photo of what our ‘Trioramas’ look like. By Josie and Ella.
Circle Time
For circle time Ruby Red students have been focusing
heavily on ‘Respect and Responsibility’.
We have been playing some different games such as ‘Pass the
Squeeze, Chinese Whispers and Pass the Smile’. Students have had to show
respect and patience by sitting and listening to each other for periods of
time. Ruby Reds have also been talking about feelings such as happy, excited,
sad, disappointed and shared moments relating to these emotions
with the class.

I didn’t bring my home learning because I went up to the paddock and my goat Wilbur ate it. Then he ran out of the gate. He had a chain dragging on the ground so I started chasing him but my shoe lace came loose. I tripped over and grabbed his chain. By Olivia I didn’t bring my home learning because I was doing my home learning and it went out the window. An eagle got it and ripped it. It put my home learning in its nest. By Tari.

Tris is a confident, resourceful ( but slightly impatient) girl from our time, wakes up in the year 528
AD, in Camelot. She is viewed with suspicion by Merlin, who fears competition from a foreign wizard,
but, through her resourcefulness (pretending to take away the sun during an eclipse) Tris becomes
‘Boss’ of Camelot and sets about modernising the country and bringing a ‘new order’ to medieval
England. But she does not listen to the locals and not all her decisions are appropriate. Accidentally
insulting Sir Sagramore, she is commanded to undertake a quest to become a Knight and then face a
joust with the champion Sagramore. Again, through ingenuity, she wins. But the peasants do not
approve of her unusual methods…and her new empire is beginning to crumble. She must leave Camelot
and allow history to take its course.

STEPHANIE ALEXANDER KITCHEN GARDEN PROGRAM
This term students in the BLUE Group will be participating in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. This program will be held every Thursday from 1.45pm-3.10pm. We will be making salads of the imagination, tarts, tortes, curries, breads, fritters, gnocchi and orecchiette pasta. In the garden students will be pruning, composting, mulching, planting, creating a worm farm, creating a no dig garden, weeding, fertilising and harvesting. Attached below is a roster for this program. If you are able to volunteer on any of the dates indicated, please contact the office.
All parents will realise that our influence on their children reduces over time, we remain the most influential person in their life it is just they don’t readily recognise it sometimes. As they develop the shift in influence moves away from us, through teachers and settles with their friends. It is also quite normal for us to wish they fhad different friends, ‘’better’ friends as we see their friends as negative influences sometimes and wish they would exchange them for better versions. One tip is that I suggest that you invite their friends over to your house and get to know them. You may find that they are actually good kids and they will have the benefit of getting to know you too. However the good news is that most of the time the friendship group changes and develops over time so it is rare that they stay friends forever. As long as you keep working at keeping your friendship alive and well with your children then they will always be open to your influence, even if they don’t always admit to it. Have a great weekend and enjoy the family times. You’ll be wondering where the time went next. Anne Prime
EARN & LEARN
You can earn one Earn & Learn point for our school for every $10.00 you spend at
Woolworths. You can collect Earn & Learn points from the checkout operator and place
them on a Point Sheet. The Safeway Earn & Learn Box will be kept at Woolworths and at
the school office. The more points you bring in, the more we can redeem from a choice of
educational resources, including library books, classroom equipment, art and craft
materials.
