HOMEGROUP HAPPENINGS!

‘Make a Wish Wednesday’ Last week, students were asked to

contribute to our ‘Make a Wish Wednesday’

board. It was amazing to see what students

wished for, such as clean drinking water for

everyone, that homeless kids found a home,

and that there were no world wars. Some

truly global thinking from our 4/5/6

students!

CHAPLAIN’S CHAT Hi parents, One of the building clocks that is essential to having a good relationship with your child is ‘respect’. In the ‘good old days’ it was commonly stated that children should respect their elders, this was sourced from a faith culture that respected parents, neighbours, neighbours possessions and vows made to another person. This has been slowly eroded over the past few decades and these days it is more often considered that respect has to be earned – even by parents. The ‘payoff’ is that they will naturally reciprocate by respecting you in return. For the best results I encourage you to respect their views on things, discuss matters of interest, listen to what they have to say and as they get older offer balanced argument. Don’t dismiss what they are saying by announcing that they don’t know what they are talking about. Respecting someone’s views doesn’t mean that you have to agree with them – but it does mean that you keep your cool and show them how to respond with understanding (rather than a loud voice or a wagging finger), before announcing that ‘actually in this case I am the parent’. Don’t assume that you always know best, but rather adopt the position of being a ‘lifelong learner’ – together. Enjoy the children. In the big picture you only have them for short period and your influence and love is the foundation of their lives. Remember in the long term – they choose your nursing home (chuckle). Have a great week. Anne Prime

SCHOOL ORGANISATION LIFE EDUCATION VAN—INCURSION On Friday 17th June, Nilma PS will be combining with Ellinbank PS for the Life Education Van Incursion. This day will be held at Nilma PS. MARC VAN On the road with MARC Senior and middle grade students have again been presented with tasks linked to Star Wars. Texts introduced have been easy reads designed to assist with developing character profiles. These have included, ‘What is a Wookie’ and ‘The Force Awakens – New Adventures’. These books give small ‘snapshop’ information and profiles which are great for small projects. Students in F-2 classes completed tasks about the famous Paddington Bear. The activity/discussion was driven by the reading of Michael Bond’s ‘Paddington in the Garden’. Children enjoyed the quiet humour in the story and were able to utilise known and learned infor-mation to complete their tasks. All students were able to grasp from the story that good solutions or outcomes can be made from initial disasters. Also a little co-operation along the way can also help.
