Student Sporting Success Congratulations to our Rugby Union team who competed at the state finals last week. The boys were fine ambassadors for our school and played courageously in two back to back games to finish fourth in NSW. Congratulations also to Mikayla Halliday who is representing Newcastle in the NSW Under 13 years Softball Championships. Well done all students, you should be proud of your achievements. Cyber security With the increased amount of time children are spending on the internet I draw to your attention a government range of initiatives to raise the awareness of Australian internet users about the importance of cyber security and how parents can support their children. The website www.staysmartonline.gov.au has a multitude of information and ideas worthy of consideration. Some useful tips on this website include: • Set strong passwords, particularly for important online accounts and change them regularly. • Stop and think before you share any personal or financial information—about you, your friends or family. • Don't give your email address out without needing to. • Be very suspicious of emails from people you don’t know is. • Limit the amount and type of identity information you post on social networking sites.

• When shopping online use a secure payment method such as PayPal, BPay, or your credit card. • When using a public computer, don’t submit or access any sensitive information online Jennifer Parke FROM THE DEPUTY

They will also learn the importance of accepting this and understand that our friends sometimes make different choices to us. The children will also discuss how they can have a whole range of different friends both inside and out of school, depending on their interests and how they spend their time. Jarrod Mullen Cup On Tuesday August 13, the Edgeworth PS rugby league team competed in the Wests, Souths and Central Charlestown Region gala day of the Jarrod Mullen Cup at Learmonth Park. Edgeworth opened the day against Dudley PS and came out firing, winning 16-0 thanks to two tries from James and one each from Kai and Heath. The boys second match was against New Lambton PS. Again Edgeworth played strongly, taking out the match 12-8, with tries from Broden, Sam and Jake. Edgeworth’s third match was against a competitive Holy Family Merewether. In a tight match, Sam scored early to give Edgeworth a 4-0 lead. Holy Family hit back to even the scores, and despite a number of opportunities, Edgeworth couldn’t break the 4-all scoreline, which the game finished at. After a break, Edgeworth then met Hamilton South PS. The boys produced some strong tackling and running, earning themselves a 20-0 victory. Jimmy grabbed two, with Jake, Tuveia and Byron also scoring one each. The boys final match was against Wiripaang PS. After a long day in the sun, the boys

were tired, however Edgeworth controlled the match, combining some clever attack with some tough defence to record an 8-0 win with tries from Jimmy and James. The boys played exceptionally well all day, and finished on top for the day, as well as the Wests region winners for the third year in a row. They will now play in the Jarrod Mullen Cup finals gala day on Thursday September 12 at Raymond Terrace, looking to defend the Jarrod Mullen Cup title they won last year.
