Sista Speak Our Year 6 'Sista Speak' group (an Aboriginal girls mentoring group) enjoyed a visit to Griffith TAFE yesterday where they learnt about some post school possibilities. They were also lucky enough to be treated to a facial and a make-up lesson too! Thank you to all involved at TAFE and to Maxine & Mrs Kitchingman for making it possible! Light the Night Join a family friendly event at Collina oval. The Leukaemia Foundation's Light the Night walk will be held at Collina oval from 6pm on Friday November 4th. This is a family friendly event with bbq, stalls, music by the band Cactus, zumba, facepainting and the lantern walk. Lanterns to show support for people on a blood cancer journey or for those currently on their journey can be purchased on the night or ordered in advance by going online to the Leukemia Foundation site https://lighthenight.org.au/event/griffith Every $100 raised equals an hour of blood cancer research which affects 60,000 Australians and provides patient and family support. Contact Margaret on 0427 798398 if you would like further information.

NRL NAIDOC Day On Wednesday, stage 3 students will be walking to the West End Oval to take part in a variety of Koori activities. The day has been organised by local NRL development officers and will involve a variety of activities run by local indigenous people.

Book Fair Get ready to dress up as your favourite Australian character!! WEEK 4 IS THE BOOK FAIR WEEK, STARTING OCTOBER 31ST. The theme is Australian story. Students will read Australian books and view posters and short plays in the library during this week. Books will be available for purchase. Friday November 4th will be dress up as your favourite Australian person or book character. Talk to Mr Maharaj if you would like to find out more! Child Protection Lessons As part of the Personal Development /Health /Physical Education curriculum, all children participate in Child Protection lessons with their class at some time in Term 4. These lessons help children identify dangerous or uncomfortable situations and ways to seek help from trustworthy adults. Some lessons may involve the naming of parts of the body. The Child Protection lessons have been developed by the NSW Department of Education and Training and they are an important priority for schools. On the yellow information card all parents fill in at the start of each school year, permission was sought for your child to participate in these lessons. If you wish to discuss the nature of child protection lessons please contact your child's teacher. Excursions All students participating in the Years 3 & 4 excursion to Echuca received detailed information yesterday. The notes include what to pack and what not to pack, a timetable of events, travel times, how to pack medication and most importantly medical and horse riding notes that must be filled in and returned to the school by this Friday. Students were also reminded that full payment must be made by November 11th. Many students have already paid the full $150. If you are unsure how much you still owe, your child's teacher can let you know. The teachers accompanying the students on the excursion are Mrs Campbell, Mr Date, Mrs Sarkis and Mrs Kirkman. The dates are November 24th and 25th.

Canteen News Now that the weather is warming up, we have lots of fresh yummy things for lunches. Sweet Chilli Chicken and Salad Wrap $4.50 Chicken Lettuce and Mayo Wrap $3.50 *Fruit Salad $2.50 *Fruit Salad and Yoghurt $3.00 *these can be ordered at lunch and fruit break. We also have fruit cups, fruit muffins, orange juice and cups of cold milo in the mornings for 60cents. Thank you, Bec, Canteen Manager P&C News GPS FETE – Friday, 18th November, 1pm-3pm The GPS mini fete is only two weeks away!! Hopefully everyone has been saving their pocket money! Remember that children don’t need to bring any more than about $15-20 on the day to be able to enjoy EVERYTHING! So... Come to the fete, it will be great! UNIFORM SHOP – Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, the uniform shop is open in the school hall every Thursday morning from 9:00 to 10:00. Now fully stocked with summer uniforms, so come in and get ready for term 4! Please bring small notes as there is no EFTPOS machine. School Hats A reminder that students must wear a school hat in Term 4. Hats are available for sale at the canteen and uniform shop. Only GPS hats are to be worn.
