愛の力は何と強大であろうか！ それは全

すべ

ての生きた力の中で最高にして 最もすばらしい力である。

What a power is love! It is the most wonderful, the greatest of all living powers.

人間世界でもっとも偉大な王であり、権威あるもの、 それは愛である。

もし愛が消えると惹き合あ

う力が消え、 人の心の情がこわれ、

人間の生活現象そのものが消える。

In the world of humanity the greatest king and sovereign is love. If love were extinguished, the power of attraction dispelled, the affinity of human hearts

destroyed, the phenomena of human life would disappear.

愛は生命い の ち

なきものに生命い の ち

を与え、 冷たい心に炎をもやし、 絶望した者に希望を与え、

悲しみにくれる心に喜びをもたらす。

Love gives life to the lifeless. Love lights a flame in the heart that is cold. Love brings hope to the hopeless and gladdens the hearts of the sorrowful.

人間の進歩発展と栄光を勝ち得え

る最高の方法、世界全体の悟りと治癒を実現する機構、 それは人類の全メンバー間に宿

やど

る愛と友情と和合の力ちから

であることは確かである。

It is certain that the greatest of instrumentalities for achieving the advancement and the glory of man, the supreme agency for the enlightenment and the redemption of the world, is love and fellowship and unity among all the members

of the human race.

存在の世界には愛より偉大な力ちから

はない。 人の心が愛の炎で輝く時、

てを――自分の命でさえも――犠牲にできる ものである。

In the world of existence there is indeed no greater power than the power of love. When the heart of man is aglow with the flame of love, he is ready to sacrifice

all̶even his life. In the Gospel it is said God is love.

ての現象が存在する起源であり、 愛の欠如は分解・破壊を起こし、 全すべ

ての存在が消えうせる原因となる。 愛は神が意識的に人間に与え給

We declare that love is the cause of the existence of all phenomena and that the absence of love is the cause of disintegration or nonexistence. Love is the conscious bestowal of God, the bond of affiliation in all phenomena.

Love is the source of all the bestowals of God. Until love takes possession of the heart, no other divine bounty can be revealed in it.

人間の究極の目標は神の承認と信頼を勝ち得え

ることであり、そのために必要不可欠のもの、そ

れは愛と友情である。そのためには、人は和合していなければならない。お互いに愛し合あ

Love and fellowship are absolutely needful to win the good-pleasure of God which is the goal of all human attainment. We must be united. We must love each other. We must ever praise each other. We must bestow commendation upon all people, thus removing the discord and hatred which have caused alienation

amongst men.

愛には四種類がある。第一の愛は神から人に注がれる愛であり、これは、尽きることのない祝福、

神聖しんせい

な光、天の啓発から成る。この愛を通して存在の世界は生命い の ち

を与えられ、物的存在を与え

られる。そして、肉の存在が終わる時、聖霊（この同じ愛）を通して、人間は永遠の生命いの ち

生きた神のイメージとなる。この愛は創造された世界に存在する全すべ

ての愛の源となる愛である。

There are four kinds of love. The first is the love that flows from God to man; it consists of the inexhaustible graces, the Divine effulgence and heavenly

illumination. Through this love the world of being receives life. Through this love man is endowed with physical existence, until, through the breath of the Holy Spirit̶this same love̶he receives eternal life and becomes the image of the Living God. This love is the origin of all the love in the world of creation.

第二の愛は人から神に捧げる愛である。これは信仰であり、神とその恩恵おんけい

国への入国、神の王国の光による精神的な啓蒙へ魅かれる力ちから

The second is the love that flows from man to God. This is faith, attraction to the Divine, enkindlement, progress, entrance into the Kingdom of God, receiving the Bounties of God, illumination with the lights of the Kingdom. This love is the origin of all philanthropy; this love causes the hearts of men to reflect the rays of

the Sun of Reality.

第三の愛は神ご自身または神のアイデンティティーに向けられた神の愛である。これは神の美

の変身であり、神の創造物という鏡に映った神ご自身の姿に対する愛である。これこそ愛の実

The third is the love of God towards the Self or Identity of God. This is the transfiguration of His Beauty, the reflection of Himself in the mirror of His Creation. This is the reality of love, the Ancient Love, the Eternal Love. Through

one ray of this Love all other love exists.

第四の愛は人から人への愛である。信じる者の心と心の間に存在する愛は精神の和の理想に

よって向上する。この愛は神を知ることによって完成される。人間は神の愛が反映された心を見

るようになり、各人が相手の魂に反映された神の美を見て、お互いの類似点を見出し、お互い

に魅かれ合あ

い、神の愛を感じるようになる。この愛は全すべ

ての人間を一つの海の波となし、一つの

天国に輝く星となし、一本の木の果実となす。この愛はまことの調和を実現し、真まこと

の和の基礎を

きづく。

The fourth is the love of man for man. The love which exists between the hearts of believers is prompted by the ideal of the unity of spirits. This love is attained through the knowledge of God, so that men see the Divine Love reflected in the heart. Each sees in the other the Beauty of God reflected in the soul, and finding this point of similarity, they are attracted to one another in love. This love will make all men the waves of one sea, this love will make them all the stars of one heaven and the fruits of one tree. This love will bring the realization of true

accord, the foundation of real unity.

神は愛なり。神は友愛、純粋性、神聖しんせい

さと忍耐を 求める。これらは神に属する者の特性である。

God is love; God seeketh fellowship, purity, sanctity and long-suffering; these are the attributes of divinity.

神の愛がなかったら人の心は啓発されることはないであろう。神の国への道は開かれないであ

ろう。又、聖典も啓示されることはなく、神の予言者たちもこの世に送り込まれることはなかったで

あろう。これらすべての恩恵おんけい

の基は神の愛である。それ故、人間の世界には神の愛より偉大な

力ちから

は存在しないのである。

Were it not for the love of God, the hearts would not be illumined. Were it not for the love of God, the pathway of the Kingdom would not be opened. Were it not for the love of God, the Holy Books would not have been revealed. Were it not for the love of God, the divine Prophets would not have been sent to the world. The foundation of all these bestowals is the love of God. Therefore, in the human

world there is no greater power than the love of God.

真実の愛は神とその僕

しもべ

の間に存在する愛、聖なる魂をひとつに結ぶ愛である。 これこそ精神の世界の愛であり、

物的、肉体的な愛、有機体的な愛とは ちがったものである。

Real love is the love which exists between God and His servants, the love which binds together holy souls. This is the love of the spiritual world, not the love of

physical bodies and organisms.

それ故、心に愛をつくり出し、その愛が光を放ち、輝くようになるまで努力を続けよ。愛が輝く時、

その愛は他の心に浸透する。神の愛が打ち立てられた時、全すべ

ての ものが現実となる悟りが訪れる。

Strive, therefore, to create love in the hearts in order that they may become glowing and radiant. When that love is shining, it will permeate other

hearts…When the love of God is established., everything else will be realized.

信仰の最初の印は愛である。聖なる神の顕示者のメッセージは愛である。創造の現象は愛に基

づいている。この世の輝きは愛のおかげである。この世の福祉と 幸福は愛による。

The first sign of faith is love. The message of the holy, divine Manifestations is love; the phenomena of creation are based upon love; the radiance of world is due to love; the well-being and happiness of the world depend upon it.

誰の心も傷つけないよう注意せよ。陰口をきかないよう、又、神の僕しもべ

に冷たくしないよう注意せよ。

全すべ

ての神の僕しもべ

を自分の家族や親戚と考えよ。絶望している人を幸しあわ

せにするようすべての努力

を傾けよ。空腹の人には食物を与え、貧者には衣類を与え、貧しい者たちに栄光を与えよ。助

けを必要とする者には援助を惜しまず、同胞や創造者にやさしくあれ。神の満足を得え

る為に。

Beware lest ye offend any heart, lest ye speak against anyone in his absence, lest ye estrange yourselves from the servants of God. You must consider all His servants as your own family and relations. Direct your whole effort toward the happiness of those who are despondent, bestow food upon the hungry, clothe the needy, and glorify the humble. Be a helper to every helpless one, and manifest kindness to your fellow creatures in order that ye may attain the good pleasure of

God.

人は全人類に対し、完全な愛と感情を顕あらわ

さなければならない。他人に自己を誇ってはならない。

全すべ

ての人は平等で同じ唯一の神の僕しもべ

として認めあわなければならない。神は全すべ

ての人種への愛で心を満たし、どんな国籍を持つ人にでもやさしく親切であれ。

You must manifest complete love and affection toward all mankind. Do not exalt yourselves above others, but consider all as your equals, recognizing them as the servants of one God. Know that God is compassionate toward all; therefore, love all from the depths of your hearts, prefer all religionists before yourselves, be filled with love for every race, and be kind toward the people of all nationalities.

愛を呼ぶ者であれ。人類に親切でやさしくあれ。世界の全すべ

ての人に興味を持ち、調和を望のぞ

み、

友情と正直を求め、あらゆる傷をいやし、あらゆる病人に回復をもたらす者であれ。人々の間の

調和の源であれ。導きの言葉こ と ば

を声高らかに吟じ、神に祈り、人を導く為に立ち上がれ。舌は神

の愛を語り、顔は神の愛に輝く者となれ。一瞬たりとも休むことなく神の愛の印となり神の喜悦の

旗印となるまで憩いの息を吸うことなかれ。

Be a caller to love; kind to the human race; gentle with humanity; interested in all the people of the world; wish for harmony and seek friendship and honesty. Be a healing for every wound, a remedy for every sick, a source of harmony among the people; chant the verses of guidance; pray to God; arise for the guidance of the people; let thy tongue explain and thy face illumine with the glowing of the love of God. Rest not a moment and breathe not a breath of repose until thou becomest a sign of God’s love and a banner of

God’s favour.

絶望することなく、こつこつと努力を続けなさい。誠実と愛はやがて憎しみを超えるであろう。い

くつもの不可能と思われたことが今日、実現をみている。「世界の光」なる御方にあなたの顔を

向けなさい。全すべ

ての人に愛情を示しめ

しなさい。愛は聖霊が人間の心に吹き込んだ 息である。

Do not despair! Work steadily! Sincerity and love will conquer hate. How many seemingly impossible events are coming to pass these days! Set your faces towards the Light of the World. Show love to all; ‘Love is the breath of the Holy

Spirit in the heart of Man.’

あなたは表面だけでなく、誠実に心からやさしくなければならない。神の愛する者は一人一人が

皆、これに 注意を払うべきである。主が人間に与えた慈悲の 心とあなたがなること、祝福となる事、出会った 全すべ

ての人に何かの善を施し、何らかの益を 与える者となれ。一人一人が皆、性格を改善し、 人間の心に再び希望を与える者となれ。そうすれば 神の導きの光が輝き出

い

で、神の祝福が全すべ

ての 人類を包むであろう。愛はそれがどこに住もうと

光であり、憎しみはそれがどこに 巣を作ろうと 闇である。

Be ye sincerely kind, not in appearance only. Let each one of God’s loved ones centre his attention on this: to be the Lord’s mercy to man; to be the Lord’s grace. Let him do some good to every person whose path he crosseth, and be of some benefit to him. Let him improve the character of each and all, and reorient the minds of men. In this way, the light of divine guidance will shine forth, and the blessings of God will cradle all mankind: for love is light, no matter in what abode

it dwelleth; and hate is darkness, no matter where it may make its nest.

からの愛が全すべ

ての人間の到達目標であり、天の輝きであり、人間の目

Love is greater than peace, for peace is founded upon love. Love is the objective point of peace, and peace is an outcome of love. Until love is attained, peace cannot be…The love which is from God is the fundamental. This love is the object of all human attainment, the radiance of heaven, the light of man.

愛は神の聖なる摂理の秘密であり、 慈悲にあふれる神の心の顕

われであり、 精神の慈

しみ雨の泉であることを汝、 しかと知るべし。

Know thou of a certainty that Love is the secret of God’s holy Dispensation, the manifestation of the All-Merciful, the fountain of spiritual outpourings.

愛は天のやさしい光、人間の魂を生き返らせる聖霊の永遠の息吹である。

Love is Heaven’ kindly light, the Holy Spirit’s eternal breath that vivifieth the human soul.

愛は神が人間に天の啓示を顕あらわ

わすもとであり、神の創造の原理により物の実体に埋め込まれ

た生命いの ち

をつなぐ絆きずな

である。

Love is the cause of God’s revelation unto man, the vital bond inherent, in accordance with the divine creation, in the realities of things.

愛はこの世と次の世の両世界で真まこと

の幸福を保証する唯一の手段である。

Love is the one means that ensureth true felicity both in this world and the next.

愛は暗闇の中を導く光、人と神を結びつける全すべ

ての啓蒙された魂の進歩を保証する生命いの ち

の絆きずな

Love is the Light that guideth in darkness, the living link that uniteth God with man, that assureth the progress of every illumined soul.

愛は力ちから

強く、天国的なこの周期を支配する最も偉大な法則であり、物質世界の様々な要素を

つなぐ独特の力ちから

であり、天の領域の空間の働きを方向づける最高の磁力である。

Love is the most great law that ruleth this mighty and heavenly cycle, the unique power that bindeth together the divers elements of this material world, the supreme magnetic force that directeth the movements of the spheres in the

celestial realms.

Love revealeth with unfailing and limitless power the mysteries latent in the universe.

Love is the spirit of life unto the adorned body of mankind, the establisher of true civilization in this mortal world, and the shedder of imperishable glory upon

every high-aiming race and nation.

アブドル・バハ（1844－1921）

アブドル・バハは、「師」（マスター）と呼ばれ、今世紀の最も精神的な人物の一人である。彼の

人生と教えは、今日、世界中の何百万もの人々の霊感の源泉となっている。彼は、「世界は全

人類の和合と融和が確立され、今日全すべ

ての宗教の不可欠の一体性が認められる時代に入っ

た」と説いたバハイ信教の創始者バハオラの長子である。彼の人生は人類への奉仕と父バハオ

ラの偉大な使命の推進に捧げられ、彼はバハオラが教えた精神的資質と高貴な美徳を完全に

兼ね備えた者であるとされている。これらの精神的資質や美徳を身につけるのが、人間の人生

市アッカに地球の四大陸から数え切れない巡礼者を引き寄せた。獄中から解放された 1908 年、

高齢に加え健康も優れなかったにもかかわらず、彼は西洋にバハイの教えを伝える旅に出た。

ABDU'L-BAHA (1844-1921)

'Abdu'l-Bahá, known to his followers as 'The Master,' is one of the most revered spiritual figures of our time. His life and teachings are today a source of inspiration to millions of people throughout the world. 'Abdu'l-Bahá was the eldest son of Baha'u'llah, founder of the Baha'i Faith, who taught that the world is entering an age when the unity and harmony of all peoples will be established and the essential oneness of all religions will become recognised. 'Abdu'l-Bahá's life was dedicated to the service of humanity and the promotion of his father's great mission. He is regarded as the perfect exemplar of the noble virtues and spiritual qualities which, Baha'u'llah taught, it is our purpose in life to acquire. When still a young child of tender years he was condemned, with his father, to a lifetime of bitter persecution, exile and imprisonment by the religious and civil authorities of his day. Despite the cruelty and suffering inflicted upon him, 'Abdu'l-Bahá's great love and compassion for the downtrodden and oppressed earned him the title 'Father of the Poor' and his wisdom and reputation drew countless pilgrims from four continents to the prison city of Akka in the Holy Land, where he was incarcerated. Upon his release from captivity in 1908, and despite his advanced years and failing health, 'Abdu'l-Bahá embarked on a series of epic journeys to spread the Baha'i teachings in the West. His message of hope and vision of universal peace challenges the traditional prejudices and rivalries of nation, race, class and religion, and transcends the barriers of time and place, encouraging its all to walk the spiritual path with practical feet.
