Low Lunch Balance Reminder – Just a reminder Tuesday May, 31st, students without a positive lunch
account balance WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO CHARGE LUNCH. Cash or a check (made payable to
“Troy Food Services”) should be submitted to the school office. If you use mySchoolBucks, the
payment can be made online. If you have any questions regarding your child’s account balance,
please call Troy Food Service at (248) 823-5089.
TSD Summer Camp – All Troy elementary students entering grades 1-6 are invited to participate in
Camp Invention. Camp Invention will be held at Wattles Elementary. The camp will be held June
20th – 24th from 9:00-3:30pm. The cost of the camp is $220. You can save $15 if your register
before May 10th. Additional information can be found on the attached flier or visit
campinvention.org.
Schroeder Artists – The Troy Garden Club was very happy to announce that two Schroeder
Elementary students have won awards in the 8th annual Troy Garden Club's 2016 Garden Walk Art
Competition. Dharanishree D. from Mrs. Carmichael’s class and Alisha G. from Ms. Tacey’s class
received Honorable Mention in the elementary category for their beautiful works of art.
Math Pentathlon – 4th Graders of Schroeder Elementary School participated in Division III 2016
Math Pentathlon. The tournament was held on 7th May, at Stoney Creek High School and the
dragons did an incredible job! Coached by Dr. Leena Loomba (a Schroeder Mom), the Schroeder
team participated in the competition to win state level honors. The winning results are due to hard
work and dedication over several months on both the parts of parents and students.

On May 15th 2016, Guru Vandana (Teacher Appreciation) was celebrated by Balagokulam HSS in
Troy. Mrs. Freeman attended the celebration and the guest of honor, Dr. Richard Machesky, TSD
Superintendent spoke at the event. He was impressed by the importance given to education in
Hindu culture. He was honored to be invited to the temple. He mentioned that every teacher in the
school district was an expert in his/her field and thanked the parents for honoring them.
Science Olympiad – The Wayne Oakland County Science Olympiad competition was held at
Schoolcraft College on May 14th. Despite this being the first time participating in this event,
Schroeder Elementary earned the second place trophy with kids winning different events. Thank
you to the students and parents who spent much time and effort for this event.

MUSIC COMPOSITION
This course is designed for any student with at least one year of music study on any instrument. Students
will be given the tools to compose their own music for any medium of their choosing (clarinet duet, piano
solo, violin trio, rock band, etc.) Instruction will include hands-on activities, group compositions and the
use of computer software to enable students to create and listen to their own music.
MUSIC COMPOSITION II
This class is designed for students who have already taken Music Composition I or are entering grades 9-12.
Advanced topics will allow students to further their understanding of music composition with hands on
activities, group composition and the use of computer software.
ACADEMIC SUCCESS COURSES Tuition: $130 per class - Tuition (out of district): $156 per class

MATH LEARNING CENTER
The district’s math curriculum department has planned a new comprehensive program designed for the diverse needs of 6-8 grade math students. Included in the program offerings are new state-of-the-art online
individualized instruction components, teacher guided instruction and small group support sessions.
Hands-on math tools will be used to strengthen and extend math knowledge. This new approach is intended
to enhance math skills for students from basic mathematical concepts to Algebra and Geometry related
concepts. Using this more individualized approach, all students will benefit including those needing
additional support to those seeking enhanced academic challenges.
READING/LITERATURE
Basic skills are covered, such as how to write a successful answer to a comprehension question, dictionary
skills and vocabulary building activities. High level thinking skills are emphasized. Readings will include a
novel and various other forms of literature.
ACADEMIC SUCCESS STRATEGIES
Students will learn how to take tests, how to become organized and how to study. Students will identify
their personal learning style and utilize the strategies to optimize learning.
