WORD Network SUNDAY @ 6pm

Dear City of Praise Family,

Is it possible to lose your salvation? Can you get saved, even regularly attend church, but keep walking in sin? Can you have one foot in the church and the other across the fence and expect to slip-slide into Heaven? Paul said in Ephesians 2:8, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works.” We become Christians through God’s unmerited grace, through faith in Jesus and his sacrifice on our behalf, not by any effort or act of service on our part. It is a free gift. Okay but then James 2:17 says “Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” Is this inconsistency in the Word? Which is correct?

The difference is that Paul was talking to the unsaved. Those who never accepted Jesus as their Lord cannot see God. The unsaved cannot merit Christ. The only way in is to accept the unmerited favor and grace from God — the free gift of salvation. James, on the other hand, was talking to the saved. So you enter into salvation by faith in Jesus as Lord, but you stay in by your walk, not your talk. God needs to see your faith by your lifestyle. Saints, your faith is made complete by your works (James 2:22). If you continue to read and hear the Word, it should make a change in your heart and in your life, and only the pure in heart shall see Jesus. “Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21)

God bless you,

G iving is a natural, but God given

response of love. We have been given the two best examples of giving in love. God loved us so much that He gave His precious son. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that

whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16). Jesus, in obedience to the Father, gave his own life for us. “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us”(John 3:16 NIV).

With Jesus being our great example setter, how can we do anything less? In fact, he finishes the scripture by saying “and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers”, which means we are called to follow in His loving footsteps. This example of giving is actually a gift to us from God, as He shows us that the greatest act of love is giving oneself for others, to help those in need and to just be a blessing to those around us. We can give of ourselves through money, possessions and time, or sometimes even just a prayer and a word of encouragement to the downhearted.

This is the season that the world has set aside for giving. This is the time of year that we celebrate the birth of our wonderful Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The life of a Christian is a process of becoming more and more like Jesus. And if we are to truly follow in His footsteps we will continue to learn of Him and to grow in our walk. A necessary part of that walk is to have

a heart for others. There is no way to operate in love without walking in that gift of giving. We can exceed in every other area of our walk, but giving is the one area that truly shows a love walk. “But since you excel in everything — in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you —see that you also excel in this grace of giving.” (2 Corinthians 8:8)

A s of November 23, 2013 and as part of the

#OneMillionSouls campaign, we have led 187 souls to salvation. God has told the City of Praise Family Ministries, according to Jeremiah 33:9, “Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.” God takes joy in the salvation of people. Let us bring our Father as much joy, praise and honor as we can by ministering to someone and leading them to Jesus. Go to www.cityofpraisechurch.com and click on . Then use it to save a soul.

I n some African countries, children cannot attend school unless they have a pair of shoes. It was with exceeding

joy that, in July 2013, the City of Praise Family Ministries Children’s Church shipped 100 pairs (3 boxes) of shoes to Soles for Jesus, Inc. This was the first service project of Children’s Church. The children participated by donating new and gently worn shoes and shoe strings, and also by wrapping them up for shipment. The children also made cards with scriptures for each pair of shoes. Donations raised by the City provided the funds to ship the shoes to a warehouse, where they were prepared to be shipped to African children.

During the month of December, Children’s Church will be collecting soap bars to send to children in another African village. Please support the children’s project by bringing bars of soap to the Children’s Church, along with any extra fabric, washcloths and ribbon which can be used to wrap the soap.

In the DMV, we have on the outskirts of DC this thing we call the Beltway. The Beltway

is a highway that loops around like a belt and connects DC, Maryland, and Virginia. The entire course is 66 miles around, and once you get on it you don’t have to worry about getting lost, because eventually you will come back to where you started; you’ll come “Full Circle.”

Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed you in the belly, I knew you and before you came from the womb I sanctified you, and I ordained you a prophet unto the nations.” You see, everyone came from God and we are all going back to Him. God knows who we are, what we’re purposed to do, and exactly what we need to do to fulfill our purpose. When we came into the world we were already on a bus. As we grow up we will make some decisions that will possibly affect who may be on the bus with us, how long or short the bus ride is, and even the comfort ability of the trip; so we must choose wisely. (Proverbs 2:2 “Incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding.”) In order to make your ride the best ride possible, there are a few things that you will receive in this life that are designed to help you grow and get to your destination; and then there might be some things that could impede your growth and prolong your trip. Sometimes, the things that hinder us the most are people, and we wonder within ourselves if we should have let those people on the bus with us.

Now ever so often, on the beltway there is an exit. Depending upon the exit you take, there are some strange things that you could pick up - a forward mouth or perverse lips. Keep these things far from you. You can also come across mischief or wickedness at some exits; this will not work for your trip either. But if you stay the course, and allow yourself to be led by the chief Bus Driver (Isaiah 55:8), it is safe to say that the beltway

will take you back full circle to where you began. But in order to be sure that you know where you are going, you have to know the Bus Driver’s voice, his route, and what he would and would not do. You have to study that bus route to show yourself approved, be discerning and open your spiritual eyes to be wary of wayward passengers on your bus, and talk to your Bus Driver constantly so that he can confirm who should and should not be on this bus with you.

Then there are those things that you will definitely need on your bus trip — compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. You must bear with those passengers who should be on your bus and forgive whatever grievances you may have with one another. Forgive just as the Lord forgave you. Remember, over all these virtues to put on Love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. The Holy Spirit will reveal all things to you, and He will help you. Our mission is to become what we were in Him, to become who we are in Christ. We must truly make Jesus the Lord of our lives and believe that God is in ultimate control.

There are some things in our life that will not change until our purpose is fulfilled. You must ride the bus and take the beltway of life FULL CIRCLE! Everyone’s bus ride won’t be easy, there will be some bumps, you may get lost, and you may even take the wrong exit. But if you stay the course, endure until the end, and trust in the Lord with all your heart, you will be victorious. (Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you ...thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”) Trust God, rest in Him, and enjoy your bus ride.
