I’m not hearing any-thing to suggest that youare proud of your friendor happy for her. Maybe you need to pull yourselftogether so that you too can be eligible for a promo-tion. Adhere to the new policies, do away with thetricks that you practice and give your friend and bossthe respect she deserves. You never know when youwill be in that position.
If you think she is really overdoing it with the newrules too early or infringing on anyone’s rights, thendiscuss that respectfully as you would anyone else, but ensure that you are being fair and objective andnot jealous or just feeling left behind. Unless shechanges drastically, the friendship can survive.
Do your best to be a team player. The workplace isnot your personal playroom, it is a place of businessand right now there are so many people looking forjobs that we cannot slip up. This is your opportunity tosupport a friend, be proud of her and maybe to makesome changes in your work habits.

Is it fair for her to use the insider information shehad as an employee now that she is a supervisor? How do I not let this affect our friendship?
–Disgruntled Friend and Employee
Dear Disgruntled,Many persons are promoted because of experi-
ence or because they are next in line, with no supervi-sory training which would help them to make the tran-sition in a more gradual way. Also, sometimes it’s avery difficult thing to have to supervise friendsbecause now she has to separate herself from beingyour buddy and partner in crime on the job to beingthe one who polices you.
Don’t be too hard on her. In trying to prove herselfand satisfy her superior, she has to demonstrate thatshe treats all employees the same regardless of whoher friends are, that she is minimizing time-wasting byeliminating access to social media and that she is put-ting in enough hours to get the work done. No one can accuse Two and a Half Men of resting
on its laurels as it heads toward its finish.
The CBS sitcom staple makes a big, “I Now
Pronounce You Chuck and Larry” type change to its
premise in its 12th and final season, which begins
Thursday, Oct. 30. Suddenly worried about his mor-
tality, Walden (Ashton Kutcher, who recently became
a first-time father) wants to adopt a child ... and
believing he stands a better chance of doing so as half
of a couple, he asks housemate Alan (Jon Cryer) to
pose as his gay partner.
“It’s just a little bit out of left field,” admits the
amiable Cryer, a two-time Emmy winner for the series,
“but the writers have managed to create a story
where it makes sense. I first thought, ‘Wow, that’s a
dumb idea,’ but I mean it was a dumb idea for these
two guys to have. I think we’ve established that
they’re idiots in many respects — so the more I
thought about it, the more I said, ‘Sure.”’
Noting the plot gives the show’s creative team
“great fodder,” Cryer adds part of that is a major
adjustment to frequent dater Alan’s social life.
“It’s a tightrope walk,” the actor confirms. “He
wants to honor the parental relationship he’s creating
with Walden, but he still has the same wants he’s
always had. We have an episode where Lyndsey
It’s 12 and out for ‘Two and a Half Men’ as last season starts
(Courtney Thorne-Smith) wants to come back into his
life, and he has to make that decision.”
Maggie Lawson Psych is joining “Two and a Half
Men” for its home stretch in the recurring role of a
social worker linked to the adoption scenario, and
Cryer is happy to have her on board. “She’s got a love-
ly arc that’s been fun to play,” he says.
Since everyone involved knows the end is near,
Cryer — who also stars in the new movie Hit by
Lightning — describes the atmosphere on the Two
and a Half Men set as “jovial, tinted with a slight
amount of bittersweet. Everybody has had so much
fun, and it’s been such a crazy ride, we’re grateful for
every moment. That’s really fun, but we’re going to
miss it. It’s a mix of feelings.”
Jon Cryer stars in the CBS sitcom Two and a Half
Men, which begins its 12th and final season today.

Digging into Beach VolleyballIn many jurisdictions around the world Beach
Volleyball is a very popular event. Despite having the
ideal climatic conditions and numerous beaches
around the Territory, Beach Volleyball here is dor-
mant.
The recently formed GRATE BVI Music Alliance
must be commended for taking the initiative to push
the BVI Volleyball Association and include the sport –
which is also on the Olympic
program – in their inaugural
“Go Green Family Fun Day”
event at Long Bay Beach, Beef
Island on Monday.
With Quito Rymer and the
Edge kicking off the musical
offering for the day with several
of his popular renditions fol-
lowed by other performers, the
games were played again a
backdrop of entertainment as
persons entered and exited the popular beach, stop-
ping and casting an eye on the action that so many
around the region and the world enjoy.
“The tournament went well but like anything else
could have been better for our first time doing it,” said
BVI Music Alliance President Eustace “Boss” Freeman
who spearheaded the initiative. “We had eight teams
participating and the competition was pretty stiff.
Ultimately, Valissa Bratwaithe and Canice Marquis
walked away as the winners and they were very excit-
ed after beating Denfield “Doc” Solomon and Bobby
Pickering, 21-17.”
Freeman said they approached the Volleyball
Association and worked with them in the initiative in
help organize the event and thanked them for working
along with his organization. Freeman said he thinks
the general public should help the Volleyball
Association in coming up with ideas.
“This is an event that can propel the popularity of
the sport in the BVI,” he noted. “It’s a joint effort in the
community to getting more people involved in playing
volleyball.”
Freeman – Showtime Band’s
lead singer and a basketball play-
er who played with Alvin Bolton in
the 2 on 2 tournament – advanced
out of the first round before being
knocked out of the competition.
“Right now I’m feeling the
effects, my ankles are hurting
me,” he said on Tuesday morning.
“It’s tough in the sand,” the bas-
ket-baller added. “But we had a
good time playing so it’s all good.”
Following the initiative Freeman pointed out that
we live on an island with numerous beaches where
the sport can be played. He said it might take a little
time and effort to get the courts lined out the proper
way.
“This is something that can go on all year long if
we work towards it,” he said.
I couldn’t agree more. With the presence of obesi-
ty prevalent in the Territory, anything to get people
moving and sweating is a good move especially for
our young people. 2 on 2 Volleyball should be some-
thing that we all embrace.
Valissa Bratwaithe and Canice Marquis
