Promoting Positive Mental Health in Children - Lesson
Observation
The visiting teachers observed a lesson on recognising and dealing with emotions modelled by 1st class teacher Jennifer Lee.
The lesson plan is available on our blog.
Children spend a week focusing on a particular emotion (e.g. anger, joy etc) and discuss what it feels like, where they feel it in their body and decide on strategies they can use to deal with the emotion. They write poetry about the different emotions. They compile their work into a Book of Feelings.
Mindful Movements with Brenda Flannery
Brenda demonstrated a sequence of mindful movements which she regularly does with classes in the Claddagh.
There are different movements we can use to calm, centre or energise ourselves.
Our visitors watched a demonstration of hurling– a Gaelic game unique to Ireland.
Our visitors got to have a try of the hurl and sliotar – we were impressed with their natural
skills!
The Mayor of Galway welcomed our Erasmus+ partners

The show was a celebration of song, dance and poetry with themes relating to keeping a
healthy mind, spirit and body.
