Leaders Notes

4-H Volunteer Training– “The Heart of Belonging”

Join 4-H leaders from across Lucas County in an interactive, hands on training that will help volunteers create a fun,

safe, inclusive environment for all youth. “Belonging” is identified as a basic 4-H youth need and supportive, caring

adults guide youth in creating an environment that is welcoming and engaging for all.

During this training, 4-H leaders will learn how to guide youth in developing a list of club or group expectations that

accommodates all members, learn how to support youth with special needs, and discover resources to help them in

their role as caring adults. In addition, volunteers will learn new activities to take back their clubs and groups to

foster positive behavior and belonging.

This training is part of the statewide leader training and will be held on Tuesday, February 24th, 2015, from

6:00-8:00 pm at the Lucas County Extension office. Please register by contacting Kelly at the Lucas County Exten-

sion office by Monday, February 23rd. (641)774-2016.

FSQA learning

Youth Council

The next meeting date will be Monday, February 16th at 6:30 pm. (I moved it out a week because of

the archery schedule) We’ll continue working on activities for the fair. There’s still time for new

members (7th-12th grade) to join, so bring your friends!

The FSQA manual can be found online at: www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/page/fsqa-food-safety-quality-assurance

All members exhibiting market animals (including poultry and rabbits) are required to be certified in FSQA. If you have

questions about certification, please call me now. The consequences of not getting certified= no showing at the Lucas Coun-

ty Fair or Iowa State Fair.

4th-6th grades must attend training each year

7th-9th grades have the option of attending training every year or complete a test which certifies them until they reach

the 10th grade

10th-12th grade have the option of attending training every year or complete a test which certifies them until they

reach 20 years of age

FSQA training to be held on April 15, 2015 at Pin Oak at 6:00 pm.

No late entries after 6:15 for the training. Testing will be available also for appropriate age groups.

“Last chance” FSQA training: June 8, 2015
