The Incarnation definition: a. The doctrine that the second person of the Trinity assumed human form in the person of Jesus Christ and is completely both God and man. God revealed in the flesh. b. A concrete or actual form of a quality or concept; especially : a person showing a trait or typical character: e.g. she is the incarnation of goodness. Many like to refer to the church as Missional; that a church has a mission and purpose… and is recognized by a task. I’d like to also have us consider the church’s description as Incarnational... meaning that it’s not only about a task being carried out, it reflects the character and quality of how we carry it out. And it also has the understanding that it’s part of our flesh and bones, and where we live, and right here and now. September 10th’s Rally Day gathers us in to send us out! The activities and opportunities for all of us are to do something special with how we live out our faith… at home or work, in school or at church. We will Bless backpacks, volunteer for the Care Corps, deliver goodies to the Fire Stations, start up Sunday School and education programs… a concert in the parking lot is being planned for Friday the 22nd and we will host the Red Cross Blood Drive with Joseph’s Temple later, on October 15th… We are witnessing God’s Work – Our Hands in the flesh, right now. We are known for being “in the City for Good, for God” – This is what being Incarnational is all about. Pastor Walt

In the Providence of God, Edith Flathmann died Saturday morn-

ing, August 19th. Pastor Henry and Edith Flathmann served

Saint Mark from 1967 to 1981. Edith was so important in lead-

ing the WELCA and Altar Guild. With heartfelt condolence we

extend our sympathy to son Pastor Drew Flathmann (Peggy) and

Dawn Flathmann and Debbie Sapp (Greg) and their families and

indeed to all of her friends. Remember them in our thoughts and

prayers. Her memorial service took place August 24th, at Noko-

mis Lutheran Church. Cards may be sent to:

Drew & Peggy Flathmann 50 E. Oaks Road, North Oaks MN 55121

Gregg & Deb Sapp 920 Delaware Avenue, West St. Paul MN 55118

thinking about a child as you buy items and pack them. Our Blessing and Sending Event will

be on November 12.

This can be a fun family activity. Not sure how to pack a box? Information will be provided in

the next few weeks. Or go to

Where is God calling us?

I would love to hear your answer to that question? During the month of August,

Robin Martinson and I attended an Open House at Women’s Advocate’s to learn

more about the wonderful work that they do and to find out about volunteer

opportunities for all of us, lots to tell!! Then we attended the Global Leadership

Summit, put on by the Willowcreek Organization. This was the second time we

attended this incredible event. It is broadcast from Chicago, Illinois and there were

close to 200,000 people attending all across North America. The program itself

(which spanned two days) will be broadcast in 120 countries in Europe, Asia and

Africa in September. The speakers (there were fifteen of them) shared their personal

stories on leadership, faith, perseverance and hope. I captured many “soundbites” tc

continue to inspire and lead me on my journey. Some of them were: “Are we getting

better or just busier?”; “Provide leadership with respect”; “Stay hopeful, it takes cour-

age”; “Be a student, not a critic”; “Replace How with WOW!”; “We are too busy

to become less busy”; “We are the church as we go” and “When you can’t, He can”.

We also learned a great deal about transformation and preparing ourselves for the

next phase of our life, both as individual Christians and as a church. Please ask us

about this experience and consider joining us next year. The 2018 Summit is

scheduled for August 9-10 and the cost has been right around $100.00, money that

we both thought was well spent. Let’s keep inspiring one another and share our

stories. Jackie Brueggemann
