All operations on the airbag and pretensioner systems must be carried out by qualified personnel who have received the proper training.

"The repair methods given by the manufacturer in this document are based on the technical specifications current when it was prepared.

Customer complaint– Creaking noise from the rear left or right-hand side

when the vehicle is driven on an uneven road surface.Note: this noise may sound like the creaking of the rear door locks.

Possible cause– Contact between the quarter panel upper

reinforcement and the quarter panel lining.

Fault finding– Lubricate the rear door and tailgate striker plates.– Confirm the customer complaint.– If the noise is still present: apply the Technical Note.

Operation to be carried out– Stressing the quarter panel upper reinforcement.

Description of the operation

REMOVAL– Remove the quarter panel linings according to the

Workshop Repair Manual.

STRESSING THE QUARTER PANEL UPPER REINFORCEMENT

Operation to carry out on the rear right-hand side– Insert a rod (A) in opening (B).– Tap rod (A) firmly.

A – 10 mm rod 200 mm in length

Operation to carry out on the rear left-hand side– Insert a rod (A) in opening (C).– Tap rod (A) firmly.

A – 10 mm rod 200 mm in length

REFITTING– Refit the removed components in the reverse order

to removal.

– Carry out a road test.

IMPORTANT: it is essential to lock the airbag computer using the diagnostic tool before starting any work. Once it has been locked, all lines are inhibited and the airbag warning light comes on.

IMPORTANT: unlock the airbag computer using the diagnostic tool (see the Electrical components section).
