MA in Digital MediaThis MA offers an innovative interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach to contemporary technologyand new media, drawing upon expertise in Media and Communication Studies.
The MA examines some of the keyissues confronting twenty-rst centuryglobal societies through a dynamicprogramme that combines theoreticaland applied perspectives, and is taughtby a team of leading academics in theeld. The department has considerable
research and teaching interestin new media, technology, andmedia theory. Students will beencouraged to apply media theory,political and social theory andresearch tools in analysing andunderstanding digital media, as
well as teaching key historical, policyand practice dimensions of new media.The programme explores key conceptsand ideas in media as well as focusingon research methodologies for thoseundertaking research on digital mediaand technology.
Programme Aims
To Develop advanced empiricaland theoretical knowledge andunderstanding of digital and newmedia.
Acquire research skills in mediaresearch methodologies.
Develop critical theoretical andanalytical skills, improve written andoral communication skills.
Understand the development ofdigital media and technologyhistorically through a number oftheoretical perspectives.
Appreciate the role of digitaltechnology and new media within
wider social, economic and politicalcontexts and the implications forpolicy formation.
Course Outline
The course structure is split acrossthe year allowing three modulestaken in each academic semester(a total of six modules) and thena dissertation over the Summer.The dissertation component allows
students to either write a 20,000word dissertation or design aresearch project of their own (with10,000 word report) which drawson issues and themes developedthroughout the year.

Entry Requirements
The typical entry requirement is arst degree in Media or a relevantdiscipline, normally an upper
second or above or equivalent.Overseas students are expected topossess an IELTS score of 6.5 orhigher, if English is not their rstlanguage; a minimum GPA of 3.0.
