Mulberry’s new Rue Saint-Honoré boutique

British luxury brand Mulberry has opened a new outlet on Rue Saint-Honoré. The 300sqm Paris store offers an array of Mulberry’s best bags and accessories, as well as of-the-moment pieces such as the new Delphie bag. A lucky few can also pick up their own limited-edition bag, the Cara Delevingne, which comes in sky blue ostrich leather.

Designed with interiors that pay homage to Mulberry’s roots in Somerset, England, the store offers visitors an oasis of calm decorated in an earthy colour palette and embellished with natural materials. Thierry Andretta, Mulberry CEO, says: “We look forward to bringing the spirit of British luxury and our traditional craftsmanship to new customers in the city.”

Kick-start your perfect day in Paris with a leisurely breakfast at Fouquet’s (99 Avenue des Champs-Élysées, 75008). This quintessential French brasserie has been a popular meeting place since opening in 1899.

After breakfast, it’s time to shop, and the Champs-Élysées is a must for any itinerary. The tree-lined

street boasts a huge selection of shops catering for all tastes, and the nearby high-end enclaves of Avenue George V and Avenue Montaigne will also leave you spoilt for choice. Don’t forget to check out number 30 Avenue Montaigne, 75008, where the famous House of Dior was established in 1946.

AFTErnoon

Cross the River Seine to the Left Bank for lunch at ralph’s – Ralph Lauren’s restaurant, nestled in the courtyard of his flagship boutique (173 Boulevard Saint-Germain, 75006). An all-American restaurant with the panache of the Rive Gauche, the menu here is an exercise in variety: from Maine lobster to Black Angus beef, as well as steaks from Ralph Lauren’s very own ranch in Colorado. As you would expect, the interiors are exquisite: the tone is set with warm, dark wood panelling and decorative objects such as leather saddles; and if the weather is kind, the patio with its fresh flowers and soft cushions is the perfect place for an al fresco meal.

After lunch, stroll toward Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Bursting with historic streets and buildings, this typically Parisian neighbourhood also boasts gorgeous shops and the Musée Rodin. Here, luxe outlets sit alongside independent boutiques. Wander through the streets in the footsteps of respected thinkers such as Albert Camus and Jean-Paul Sartre. Also in this area, you’ll find Le Bon Marché (24 Rue de Sèvres, 75007), Paris’s first modern department store, founded in 1852.

No shopping day is complete without a trip to Printemps Haussmann (64 Boulevard Haussmann, 75009). Currently celebrating its 150th birthday, this iconic department store is an Art Nouveau masterpiece. Printemps recently opened a stylish space dedicated to trendy sneakers: La Sneaker Library.

EVENING

Stop for some wine at Café de Flore (172 Boulevard Saint-Germain, 75006), then catch a contemporary art exhibition at Palais de Tokyo (13 Avenue du Président Wilson, 75116). When it’s time for dinner, treat yourself to the ultimate fine dining experience at Le Grand Véfour (17 Rue Du Beaujolais, 75001). A culinary institution for over 200 years, the elegant dining room is decorated in the style of Louis XVI and headed by Michelin-starred chef Guy Martin.

There’s a joyous freedom in the watch industry in 2015, the only dominant trend being a lack of trends. This suits the kind of customer who wants distinction, not uniformity. Peter Harrison, CEO of Richard Mille, says: “I’m not sure there are any trends now. We just do what we like.”

There are over-arching themes, of course. Updated re-issues inspired by the archive are popular; they speak to an aspirational lifestyle. Collectors will swoon over Chopard’s Mille Miglia GTS Power Control – the name says it all.

There is a growing interest in materials as a touch-point of research and development: Ralph Lauren, for instance, has introduced models with shot-blasted steel cases, creating a distressed effect, and has debuted dials decorated with rings of burl wood. Other companies have explored materials both classical and high-tech – from bronze to meteorite via forged carbon and advanced rubbers. Ethical considerations also feature: last year, Chopard launched the first watch made from ‘fair-mined’ gold and has rolled out that idea in 2015. Richard Mille’s RM 011 Black Night edition (pictured left) features a case made entirely of lightweight NTPT Carbon with a high contrast red flange and black detailing on the skeletonised dial.

Other trends indicate a mirroring of major cultural shifts. There is evidence of the Apple Watch being a wake-up call for the industry. We may see an increased electronic component: high-end companies have this year launched timepieces that, among other tricks, act as keys for electronic data vaults or connect with a smartphone for increased functionality.

But, perhaps more successfully in the long run, there could be a deeper entrenchment into the elite watch brands’ history and craft – to highlight difference rather than to compete. These timepieces will show off the craftsmanship and revel in the art of horlogerie.

Dior’s romantic Rose des Vents, its compass-like motif taken from a mosaic in Christian Dior’s garden, is typically 1970s in turquoise and gold. Chopard’s Happy Hearts bangle in rose gold and mother-of-pearl, meanwhile, showcases one free-running diamond in crystal. The opposite is the statement cuff, such as Chanel’s stunning Coco Crush.

The biggest trend in fine jewellery is women buying for themselves instead of waiting for a gift from a man. They buy rings in particular – nothing is off-limits except for a diamond solitaire (which is too much like an engagement ring). Stacking rings are a favourite – pile them up in your own way for maximum individuality. De Beers’ Infinity twists – available at Printemps – work brilliantly, and Boucheron’s Quatre collection defines the trend in a variety of golds and finishes.

Afterwards, take a short walk to number 21 Rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré, and enjoy the epitome of French design at Chanel, from ready-to-wear fashion to fi ne jewellery. SaInt-gERMaInNamed after one of the oldest churches in Paris, Saint-Germain-des-Prés is one of the most classically Parisian neighbourhoods in the capital. A prized address, it is lined with historic streets once frequented by artists and bohemians. Monet and Renoir used to share a tiny studio at number 20 Rue Visconti, Balzac roamed these streets and, in the 20th century, the bars of St Germain were packed with thinkers such as Albert Camus, Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir.

MORNINGStart your day with a lazy breakfast at Eggs & Co. (11 Rue Bernard Palissy, 75006). Afterwards, walk down Rue de Sèvres, where you can find Alain Figaret and Gerard Darel. A few blocks away is the gorgeous Rue de Grenelle, with its many luxe shops, such as Christian Louboutin and Saint Laurent.

AFTERNOONWalk toward number 3 Rue de Montfaucon, where you will find Huîtrerie Régis serving the freshest oysters for lunch. Afterwards, set off towards Rue Bonaparte, for a wander around Max et Moi, and Zadig & Voltaire. Turn into Boulevard Saint-Germain, home to Polo Ralph Lauren and La Perla.

EVENINGFor dinner, head to number 13 Rue de l’Ancienne Comédie, where you will find Le Procope, one of the oldest cafés in the city and a haunt of historical greats, including Voltaire and Oscar Wilde.

purchase and personally export home with them

IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER

1 Go shoppinG; Get your tax Free Form

Shopping in France is a distinctive savoir-faire and a Tax Free shopping trip to Paris should be on every fashionista’s bucket list. This is the home of couture and the place where Coco Chanel liberated fashion. You can shop ‘til you drop here and, even better, you can shop Tax Free.

Not every retailer supports Tax Free shopping; check for the Premier Tax Free sign or ask a member of staff in-store.

Once you’ve finished shopping, ask in-store for your Premier Tax Free form; present your passport (and, if applicable, your EU consular card) and choose your refund method. The Tax Free form should be signed by you and a store employee – we advise that you keep the original purchase receipts with you. You will have to present them in case of cash refund and you could be asked to show them during Customs inspection.

The store should also issue you with a Premier Tax Free prepaid envelope so, in the case of your Tax Free form being manually stamped by French Customs, you can post it back to Premier Tax Free after manual Customs export validation.

Get your tax Free Form export validated

No matter how you receive your refund, it is vital that you get your Tax Free form export validated electronically (PABLO Kiosk) or, if applicable, manually (by Customs).

Tax Free forms must be fully completed and export validated within three months after the month of purchase. Premier Tax Free must then receive the electronic validation or, if applicable, the Tax Free form manually validated within 6 months from the purchase date. Make sure you allow enough time at the airport for the export validation process before your flight departs.

Customs is well signposted at all airports, land borders and ports. Have your passport, purchased goods and travel documents with you for possible inspection; make sure the goods are sealed and unused.

ELECTRONIC EXPORT-VALIDATION (PABLO): If your Tax free form has a PABLO logo and barcode and you are leaving the EU from France, get your Tax Free form validated at a PABLO Kiosk. PABLO kiosks are generally located near to Customs offi ces in French international airports, ports and at border crossings. If you are leaving by airplane, do this before checking in your luggage.

If your Tax Free form is successfully validated by a PABLO kiosk, please keep your tax free form for your records. If your Tax Free form is rejected by a PABLO kiosk, ask Customs to validate it manually.

If your Tax Free form does not have a PABLO barcode or if you leave the European Union via another member state, you must request manual validation from the relevant authorities in that state and then send the original of the Tax Free form to Premier Tax Free.

GET YOURREFUND

Once your Tax Free form has been export validated, you can receive your refund. We have different options to best suit your needs and travel schedule. The fi nal refund will consist of the VAT total, minus an administration fee. In some cases, a cash refund fee may apply.

3HOW TO USE THE PABLO

KIOSK1. Select your language on the touch screen.

2. Scan the barcode on your Tax Free form using the barcode reader.

3. If a green screen and the message ‘OK. Form valid’ appears, then your Tax Free form is export-validated.

4. If a red screen appears, then follow the instructions on the screen and go to Customs.go to Customs.
