6. Straight Line KitchenThe Straight Line Kitchen floor plan is ideal for smaller

homes. The work triangle in this kitchen layout is less

like a triangle and more of a work line with all three

main elements along one side of the wall.

It is important when designing the layout of any kitchen to consider the position of the refrigerator, sink and primary cooking surface in relation to each other. It is

advisable in the planning stage to position them within the work triangle. The work triangle should be no more than 8100 mm, with no single leg shorter than

1200 mm or longer than 2700 mm.

There are different layouts found in today’s kitchens like:

STANDARD KITCHEN LAYOUTS

1. Island KitchenThe island kitchen has one of the three main

elements, especially the hob, placed

separately from the cabinets. The setup

makes it look like an isolated island.

2. Peninsula KitchenIn a peninsula kitchen, as the name suggests,

the cabinets surround the work area in the

kitchen on three sides.

4. L-Shaped KitchenThe L-shaped kitchen is one of the most popular

models. The work triangle in this layout is uninterrupted

by movement of people and there is ample room for

appliances.

3. U-Shaped KitchenThe U-shaped kitchen is the most versatile layout for

kitchens regardless of whether they are large or small,

because the layout offers continuous counter tops and

ample storage, which surround the space on three

sides, making it easy for the one who uses the space

to access the stored items easily.

5. Parallel KitchenThe parallel layout has a workspace large

enough for one cook. In this kitchen floor

plan, the work domains face each other on

parallel walls, creating a small work triangle.

A kitchen has three main activities:1. Cooking 2. Storage 3. Washing

In Magick Woods design philosophy , the domains for the three main activities are regarded as the most important design elements

of the kitchen and every other element is fitted around those positions. The positions of the main activities should ideally form a

WORK TRIANGLE, with each of the apex of the triangle forming the 3 areas mentioned above.

The more equilateral the triangle is, the more utilitarian, functional and practical the kitchen is (but that’s not the case always).
