Geographical Information System (GIS) can play a pivotal role in conducting effective Elections.
G - ELECT chalks out the role of Location Intelligence in the election system and how it can be successfully implemented with the help of GIS.
By using G - ELECT the Election process on the day of Elections can be made automated and transparent.
G - ELECT has got a dashboard application for automated and fast monitoring of some activities in the election process
G - ELECT is developed for the Internal access and use of Election monitoring
G - ELECT uses Communication Technology (Text Messages – SMS) for data updating

G - ELECT - Solution Overview
65 Ward boundaries have been generated and geo-referenced on Thane city GIS base map
All polling booth locations are captured by using GPS and are geo-referenced on Thane city GIS base map
Presiding Officers (PO) of each polling booths will be provided with registered SIM card
Voters information like total number of voters , male & female voter counts for each polling booth will be tagged to its location point on Thane city GIS base map
Voters will cast their votes through Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) on each polling booth
G - ELECT Solution will monitor the progress of voting on each booth in the interval of every 2 hrs

Process - Election Day Monitoring
Every presiding officer (PO) will be sending the information every two hours in a specified SMS format.
This information will be decoded by the application and the servers will be updated with the latest information
SMS will contain the bi-hourly number of male and female voter information for that booth.

A pre-formatted SMS template will be pushed to all the SIM cards listing the respective ward wise candidate codes in an order same as on EVM.
During counting stage Presiding Officer will press the button on EVM for counting of votes for contesting candidate
The counts appeared on EVM will be send on a confidential number in a text SMS format by each polling booth presiding officer.
EDC count will be updated by each Returning Officer through their registered SIM cards assigned for each wards
RO will declare the result for assigned wards through G - ELECT solution
