Initial findings
5
Patients use device with high frequency
during periods of greatest pain
Educational material tends to be
accessed during the night shift (20.00-
08.00h)
Patients expect very sophisticated
content and are highly critical (cost
implications)
Comments from patients

Reassuring to read. Exercise helped. Couldn't concentrate on anything else had a muzzy head.
it helps you to understand the different levels of pain. It would be better if you could comment on activities being done at the time of pain
Useful to zone out when pain coming in waves. Found meditation parts useful at times of stress…calming. Nice to hear a calm voice and focus on that.
not much effect as it was not connected to the hospital system
I think the device is a really good idea. Although it could do with a bigger and better range of games/music/movies etc. The choice was VERY limited and people would probably like a bigger amount of choice.
Experiences & Messages
No easy pathway for this kind of innovation within NHS currently
Outsourced IT providers are impenetrable to innovation and kill ideas
Had to forge new collaborations to realise the project
Huge advantage to clinicians driving such product development- ability to fine tune it live
