Foreword

This is the 2002 edition of the Ministry of Forests' Major Primary TimberProcessing Facilities in British Columbia and refers to timber processing millsthat have primary log processing capability and which operated during 2002.Coverage does not include re-manufacturing plants. Pulp and paper mills andpanel plants are included in this report even though some do not have primarylog processing capabilities.

Reported information was gathered by surveying the individual processingmills. If a response was not submitted by the mills, mill specific informationreported in trade publications, directories and corporate annual reports mayhave been used. In some cases Ministry of Forest staff provided estimatesbased on their knowledge of the operation and information reported inprevious years.

Where a mill produces more than one product (e.g. lumber and plywood;lumber and paper), each operation is listed in the respective sections of thereport.

Effective April 1, 2003, the Ministry of Forests has a new organizationalstructure, consisting of headquarters in Victoria, three regions and 29 districts. This report uses the previous organizational structure that was in place in2002, consisting of six regions and 40 districts. Maps of both the old and newregions and districts are provided.

LOG HOME MILLS

Mills that process logs to manufacture log homes are listed in this section.

A throughput capacity measurement is not as meaningful for log home mills as itis for other types of primary timber processing mills. Therefore this section doesnot include information pertaining to estimated annual capacity.
