THE PRESIDENT Welcome to summer! If it isn’t raining it is HOT. The
corn out my back door is 9’tall. In my travels lately I have
seen some very poor crops. Some are having a good year and
some are not. I think that is fairly typical but difficult for a
farmer and family to deal with. It is a reminder to all of us to
help one another and I am happy to belong to an organization
that is very immersed in volunteer work.
We have District Meeting coming up very soon and most of
the board will be attending. We will be coming back with
new ideas and will be sharing those with you.
Our GARAGE SALE is coming up soon. Please try to help
however you can. We are going to need a constitution
committee and a nominating committee very soon. Please
give me a call if you can assist in any way. I will very much
appreciate hearing from you. Joan Stanley - County
President
FIRST VICE-PRESIDENT
Hey there HCE members. Have you all been cleaning out
your closets and other storage areas to donate your unused
treasures for our annual garage sale in August. Just think how
good it feels to have an uncluttered home. Its amazing how
quickly we can accumulate all that stuff. Our September
lesson will be the 5 ingredient fix. It should be very
interesting. Looking forward to seeing our unit members
again. Hope you are all having a great summer.
1st vice Bobbi McEntire
Minor Lesson
What is your favorite scent? Why does it bring you joy? How
about every time you smell lemons or that aroma-it makes
you feel good. Did you know that the olfactory senses are the
only one of five senses that are directly connected to the brain
and the environment. Result if you had a good experience in
Florida making fresh lemonade that scent would always be
associated with a good experience. Can you think of some
other scents that make you feel good?

Enjoys giving orders and being surrounded by admirers

INTERNATIONAL
'' LITHUANA ''
Helloooo fellow 'CCHCE' members.....Are you ready for
'August''...seems like we just started into 'July'...... Fair is
over...now I can...get ready to help at the Fisher Grade
School.........lots of fun & fellowship there...also..Volunteer
HOURS.... which is a great way to help our county's
volunteer hours... Try it !
Soooo here is some information on Lithuania.... Lithuanian is
spoken by nearly everyone in the country except for a few
Russians & Poles in 'Vilnius (capital) & in the extreme east
& south. It is a language with many words to describe a
single idea.. There is a abundance of 'nature words, '
probably because the people are so fond of the outdoors.
Lithuanian often makes use of diminutives to soften the
connotation of words to make them 'more personal'.
Symbolism ::The National Symbol is: Vytis, the white knight,
sitting astride his horse & brandishing a sword, he
symbolizes the nation's struggle to defend itself from the
intruders... The National Plant is rue, & the National bird is
the 'stork'..
History>>The origin of the nation & the development of it's
culture were strongly influenced by foreign occupation of the
country & are the result of the perceived need of the people to
preserve something of their own.. even when the national
language was banned & reading or writing of books in the
native tongue was forbidden, people were determined to
spread their heritage & share their traditions....
Basic Economy>> the economy is mainly agricultural, but, in
recent years ..the government has attempted to distribute
commercial activity. Light industry, metalworking, &
woodworking, along with petroleum refining, are part of the
commercial profile . Livestock breeding, primarily pigs, &
dairy farming are an important sector of the economy &
cereals, flax, beets & potatoes are the primary crops...
Lithuania's unit of currency is the ''litas, pegged at four litas
per U.S. Dollar.
A fun thing......the beauty of Lithuanian girls , a perfect blend
of Scandinavian..features & Slavic look, make the women of
that tiny European country absolutely gorgeous !!
Well more next time......sure hope to see lots of you at our
'"Garage Sale''' on Sat.., Aug. 22.......come help... come 'buy'
....see you there...OH>.....don't forget to bring a friend with
you.... show her how much we have fun in CCHCE.......see
ya... God Bless ! Have a wonderful summer.........

4th Annual Garage Sale and Bake Sale
By now the Garage sale pick up has been done. Thank you
for your cooperation. Now it's time to get everything ready.
On August 21st (Friday), we will be sorting, and placing
everything we need out there. We'll certainly need all the
help we can get. We'll now need the extra tables, even
narrow tables we can use in the hall for our plants and books,
etc. Card tables for the end of the
lines. (it's hard to believe it takes so
much, but our GS expert Eileen Miller
said we do.) August 21, we will have
an early, short opening from 4:00
p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Items can still be
dropped off at the Farm Bureau, 801 Country Fair Dr.,
Champaign, if you didn't get a chance to do it earlier. But the
Big Sale is on Saturday, August 22. We will still need help
for manning all the stations, etc. and baked goods. Those are
always a big hit. Thank you again for being the wonderful
and hard working volunteers and individuals you've always
been and continue to be.

The trip commenced from downtown Arthur. Everyone in

followed by a delicious family-style dinner where we all
shared a table at the Amish home of Marvin and Sarah
Helmuth. From there the group proceeded to an Amish home
tour at the home of Mary Ann Schlock. Along the way
everyone took advantage of their opportunities to visit the
many stores in Arthur, and we all enjoyed Beachy's Grocery
Store. A great time was had by all.

Confessions of a Packrat
I confess that I’m a Packrat;
I collect all kinds of stuff,
And my basement’s full of treasures
Lots of diamonds in the rough.
Spools and shells and pinecones,
Ribbon in neat little rolls;
Jars and bottles and lovely old lace;
Old rag dolls with very few holes!
Little balls of colored yarn;
Material for many a quilt;
Boxes of dried things, and flowers
The kind that won’t ever wilt!
Magazine clippings to read and to sort;
Baskets to fit any need;
Hundreds of pencils (2 inches long!)
So, I confess that I’m a Packrat!
Stuff just seems to find me!
But don’t worry, when I die I’m
Gonna leave it all behind me!
Nestles Chocolate for Baking:
3 level tablespoons 100% Baking Cocoa Powder plus 1 tablespoons oil = 1 ounce or 1 square of Unsweetened Baking
Chocolate.
This is easier to work with than melting squared of chocolate.
