Additional directorgeneral of police (idol wing CID)Prateep V Philip said there are11 more people, including acollege student and a robber,involved in the racket. A teamhas been assigned toapprehend them. Police hadarrested Danalingam, a filmproduction manager, and twoothers in May this year andrecovered eight stolenpanchaloha idols. Sekar, a well-known name in the Tamil filmindustry, runs a productionunit called ThiruvalluvarKalaikoodam, and is known orhis multi-starrer familyentertainers that deal with thedaily struggles of the workingclass. He has produced filmssuch as ‘Viraukketha Veek-kam’, ‘Varavu Ettana SelavuPathana’, ‘Kaalam MaariPochu’ and ‘Hendtheer Darbar’.

On January 6, aShiva Parvathypanchaloha idolweighing 20 kgwas stolen fromManikantheshwaratemple in Sripe-rumbudur. Fourdays later,burglars stole

seven panchaloha idols fromtemples in Paiyur and Sound-aryapuram in Tiruvann-amalai district. The probe ledpolice to Dhanalingam, whowas arrested in West Mam-balam. His arrest led torecovery of the stolen idols andarrest of two of hisaccomplices. Sekar wasremanded in Puzhal centralprison after being producedbefore a metropolitanmagistrate court in Egmore onWednesday. Tamil Nadu, hometo hundreds of ancient temples,has seen several instances ofidol theft in the past. Art thiefSubhash Kapoor, who isaccused of carting awayinvaluable idols from the stateto museums across the world,had plundered sites such asBrihadeeswarar temple inSripuranthan in Ariyalurdistrict of Tamil Nadu.

Kapoor, who was operatingin the US, was extradited toIndia in 2013.

Railway Border Road, West Mambalam connecting T. Nagar is floodingthe subway causing problems for pedestrians and 2-wheeler riders. Thesubway was opened last year for the benefit of 2-wheeler riders andpedestrians.

The authorities are still to investigate the cause for the seepage.

Police on Monday arrested a man and his sonfor cheating people of Rs. 92 lakh.

R. Dhansekaran, 56, and his son D.Kameshwaran, 21, had been running a chitfund since 2010 and had lured people to depositmoney in their schemes, police said.

The depositors lodged a complaint againstthe men after they failed to repay the depositsafter they had matured.

Investigations revealed that the two hadcollected more than Rs. 92 lakh from investorsthey cheated.

injuries when three men set aTasmac-run liquor shop on fireon South Boag Road in T. Nagaron Wednesday, Aug. 12,evening. Fire and rescueservices personnel from T.Nagar and Teynampet dousedthe flames in an hour.

Police said the attack wasnot related to the ongoingprotests demanding prohi-bition in the state. “It was acase of property dispute,” saida police officer. The shop waslocated in a small commercialbuilding.

The trio came on a bike at4.30 p.m for a drink. One ofthem approached a salesmanand threw a tin filled with petrolon a rack stacked with liquorbottles and set it on fire.

Palanivel, the shopkeeper, whowas attending to customers,sustained injuries while tryingto escape from the fire. Thecustomers who witnessed theincident came to the man’s

rescue and took him to a nearbyprivate hospital. Police said hesuffered burn injuries on hisleg, chest and shoulder.
