What is the sum of first 60 natural numbers?

• ½ * 60 * 61

• = 1830 answer.


If the sum of first 10 terms in an AP is equal to the sum of first 25 terms of that series, can the total of the series be zero. If yes – when?

• N/2 (2A + (10-1)D) = N/2(2A + (25-1)D)• 5(2a+9D)=12.5(2a+24d)• 10a+45D = 25A+ 300D

• 15A+255D = 0• 3A +51D = 0 or A +17D = 0 or 2A+34D = 0• So answer is Yes – the total will be zero at

35th term. Answer.


The nth term of an A.P. is (3n + 5). Its 7th term is:

(a) 26 (b) (3n—2) (c) 3n+ 12

• A.P. = Arithematic Progression

• (3*7 + 5)• =21 + 5 = 26 answer.


The A.M. of two numbers is 34 and their G.M. is 16. The numbers are:(a) 60, 8 (b) 64, 4 (c) 56, 12

• Answer is (b)

• AM of ( 64 + 4 ) / 2 = 34• Sqrt (64*4) = 16 answer.


Radius of one circle is 20 and that of another is 37. AC is 12. What is

the length of OO’?


Solution

• OC + O’C = OO’

• OC is = sqrt (20^2 – 12^2) = 16

• O’C is = sqrt (37^2 – 12^2) =35• Thus OO’ = 16 + 35 = 51 answer.


How many 3 digit numbers can be formed from the digits 2,3,5,6,7,8,9, which are divisibe by 5 and none of

the digits is repeated?

• The last digit is 5. for the rest of the digits, we have following options:

• 6*5 = 30 Answer.


There are 2 numbers, whose LCM is 60 and whose HCF is 3, what are

the numbers?

• If we take factors of 60, we get:

• 2*2*3*5.

• Thus we have two distinct numbers besides 3 - these are : 4 and 5.

• Thus 2 numbers are 4*3 = 12 and 5*3 =15 answer.


A tea merchant buys two kinds of tea, the price of the first kind being twice that of the second. He sells the mixture at Rs. 17.50 per kg., thereby making a profit of 25%. If the ratio of first and second kinds of tea in the mixture be 2 : 3, find the cost price of

each kind of tea.• Cost = 17.5 *100/125 = 14 per KG• Let us assume that (2+3) = 5 KG of tea is

there. Their rates are 2X and X.• 2*(2x) +3*(X) = 70

• 7X = 70 or X = 10. Thus two tea cost 20 and 10 respectively. Answer.


Four gallons are drawn from a pot full of milk. It is then filled with water. Four gallons of mixture are again drawn and the cask is again filled with water. The quantity of milk now left in the cask is to that of water in it is

36: 13. How much does the pot hold?

• Formula = (1- milk drawn/total Qty)^n• N = Number of times the milk is drawn • (1 – 4/X)^2 = 36 / 49• (1-4/x) = 6/7• X – 4 = 6X/7

• 7X-6X = 28 or X= 28 answer.
