‘Building Talent for the New Economy’

Education builds talent – talent that imbues competence and is capable of fuelling the new economy and emerging industries, earmarked to create wealth and spearhead national and global economic growth.

At MIU, we have identified Engineering, Biotechnology and Management as key fields of study to deliver competent, innovative professionals, capable of engineering the future and revolutionizing the enterprise.

It is the role of a university to groom students into knowledgeable, competent, creative and innovative graduates. A university education does not end with good grades, but with a graduate securing a good job.

At MIU, we take it as our duty to ensure that we produce quality graduates capable of handling the demands and pace of the emerging industries. We inculcate strong academic knowledge combined with soft skills and professional values, ensuring ‘first day, first hour productivity’.

We also infuse innovation and entrepreneurial skills into our curriculum, and expose them to practical knowledge and relevant industry developments, issues and solutions.

Quality is central in all that we do. Our faculty at MIU are recruited based on their academic qualifications and also industry experience. Our programmes and syllabus are constantly reviewed with industry practitioners. We are prudent with our selection of industry partners identifying dynamic corporations with global operations. We forge academic partnerships that will create opportunities and add value to our students’ degrees.

At MIU, we strive to build a pipeline of revolutionary leaders – leaders who will move and shape the industry, in Malaysia, the region and the world.Be that Leader. Let your journey begin. Welcome to MIU.

07

The Manipal Group began with a medical college in a sleepy town called Manipal in Karnataka, India, some 60 years ago. The group’s founder, Dr Tonse Madhava Anantha (TMA) Pai, believed it was possible to deliver premium education and education-related services at affordable costs.

This vision and foresight – combined with Dr Pai’s considerable personal zeal, dedication and energy – led to the transformation of a barren hilltop in Manipal, Karnataka, into a bustling international University town.

Today, Manipal Global Education Services (MaGE) is a global education giant, with five campuses in four countries- – Antigua, Dubai, Malaysia and Nepal - catering to over 350,000 students, and diverse disciplines like medicine, applied science, engineering, business and multimedia.

The Centre for Foundation and Language Studies at Manipal International University (MIU) aims to provide students with the necessary platform to kick start their undergraduate program of choice. Students generally enter into a Foundation program based on their future career direction after SPM/O levels.

The Foundation programme has the advantage of providing the necessary basics for undergraduate admission in a year. Students will receive exposure to the fundamentals of their chosen programs from experienced lecturers who teach the undergraduate programs as well.

Students will also be placed in an English enhancement course if necessary. The classes are conducted during the course of the semester, and help enhance the student's command of the English language in order to excel at English Language Proficiency tests at the international level (IELTS, TOEFL, etc.). The English Enhancement Program, a separate program in the Centre for Foundation and Language Studies, focuses solely on the improvement of the student's English.

Malaysia is a diverse tropical country that is split into two sides known as Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo (East Malaysia) by the South China Sea. Its blend of Malay, Chinese and Indian ethnic groups exhibits a kaleidoscope of colours and cuisines, making for a distinctly varied culture.

Kuala Lumpur, the most populous city in Malaysia, is located on Peninsular Malaysia, about a five-hour bus ride North of Singapore. This spread-out city constantly on the rise is ornamented with many mosques and colonial British- and Moor-influenced buildings that remind trendsetting city-goers of its colourful past.

Before Arrival to Malaysia

Tuition Fees The International Office (IO) will advise you on payment of tuition and other fees before you arrive in Malaysia. You are required to settle all payments as per the student bill which accompanies your letter of offer.Important Travel Documents

Passport Your passport must be kept valid for your stay and travel purposes. Maintaining a valid passport is your responsibility. Your country's embassy or consulate office can assist with passport renewals. The IO can provide a letter certifying enrollment status to renew your passport.

Student Pass and Visa Approval Letter The student pass and visa are endorsed onto the passport by the Malaysian Immigration Department. The endorsement indicates visa type, the length of stay in Malaysia, the number of entries permitted into Malaysia and the validity of the student pass (which is normally for one year). The Malaysian Immigration regulations require all international students to enroll as full-time students throughout their stay in Malaysia.

Original Copy of School Certificates Bring along the original school certificates for confirmation of authenticity of the documents submitted in the application.

Medical Health Report and FormThe Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education requires all international students to undergo a set of medical health examination in their home country before reporting to MIU.

Students coming from Yellow Fever Endemic Zones such as Africa and South America in particular, are reminded to ensure vaccination before entering Malaysia. A Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate, valid only if the vaccines are approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and administered at an approved Yellow Fever Vaccinating Centre is required from those who come from these zones. The Malaysian Ministry of Health will quarantine students from these zones without a valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate upon arrival for 2 weeks.

The certificate is valid for 10 years and effective after 10 days from the date of vaccination. The Medical Health Report form is sent together with the Letter of Offer for Admission, and must be submitted to the IO at MIU.

MIU reserves the right to request (at the applicant's expense) either a repeat full medical examination or any specific tests in Malaysia should there be any doubt about the medical report submitted. MIU reserve the right to reject an application on the basis of the results of the health examination should there be evidence that false health information has been given by the applicant in either the examination report or any supporting documents.

Financial Support Documents Evidence of financial support is needed to show that there is enough money to allow completion of the programmes at MIU (for example: letter of scholarship award, financial sponsorship letter, international bank draft or bank statements). Having these documents will greatly ease the way through customs and immigration clearance.Personal Accident Insurance CoverageYou are covered under limited personal accident insurance while you are registered as a full-time student at MIU.

On Arrival in Malaysia Airport Pick-Up All international students arriving at Kuala Lumpur will be provided with airport pick-up service upon their arrival in Malaysia. In order to secure airport pick-up from your international arrival, you must email or fax the completed ‘Airport Pick-Up Form’ to the International Officer (IO) by providing the confirmed flight details at least seven days prior to your arrival. This form will be mailed or couriered to you together with the letter of offer of admission.

When I first heard that the Manipal Education Group was opening an entity in Malaysia for Engineering, I already knew where I was heading to further my studies. I have visited Malaysia many times and with MIU, it is a great pathway for me to enjoy what Malaysia can offer and receive quality education from an international university. The Engineering programmes are recognised by the Washington Accord (US) and that allows me to be recognised as an Engineer almost anywhere in the world once I have graduated. The programme structure itself is very comprehensive. It covers all aspects which an undergraduate bachelor degree in Engineering should be. The syllabus has all it takes to groom a person not just as a skilled individual but also as an industry relevant graduate. Besides, Malaysia is close to home!
