The decision to go outside or stay inside for recess is the decision of the administrator at individual schools. The following are to be considered in determining if recess is to be held outside: temperature and humidity, wind chill, heat index and air quality, age of students, length of time outdoors, adequacy of the children’s clothing, condition of the playground, falling precipitation (more than a sprinkle or mist) and/or thunder and lightning. Generally, it is assumed that students will be outside for recess when the temperature combined with the wind chill is not less than 20 degrees Fahrenheit or the heat index reading is less than 95. Important: Children with certain health conditions may need special accommodations during extremely hot or cold weather. Parents of those children are to provide medical documentation and/or be consulted for determining if other arrangements are necessary. During hot weather, teachers should provide students a water break before and after recess. Additionally, any student who shows signs of heat exhaustion or overheating should be allowed a water break during the recess period. FAMILY FIT NIGHT: Family FIT Night will be held January 31st from 6-8 pm for students and families at MWES. Save the date for this FREE family wellness event! Highlights include participating in Kid Friendly Boot Camp, Karate, Zumba, and Yoga in addition to wellness tables and a Parent Nutritional Workshop. Come and join Manny for a great evening of fun and exercise! To register for Family FIT Night go to http://bit.ly/2bWkEMl. Manor Woods is participating in the Trex Recycling Program. Please send in clean, dry, empty plastic bags, film packaging or wrap. The plastic can be placed in specially marked boxes at MWES. The plastic that is collected will be weighed weekly, and the data is sent to Trex. MWES is in competition with other schools in the region, and can win a bench made from Trex decking material. The plastic collection program runs through April. Instead of recycling your bread bags, plastic overwrap or bubble wrap at your local store, please send it to MWES to help us win the competition and win at saving space in our landfills. The plastic will be made into Trex decking supplies. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Sorkin at [email protected]. ROAD TO KINDERGARTEN INFORMATION SESSIONS: Do you have a child who will be 5 years old by September 1, 2017?
