MEOS Q1 2016 Summary• Strongest headline figure in over a year: Following last quarter’s dip from

+6 to +5, the NEO is up at +7.

• Services with a smile: Driven in a large part by the strong performance of the business services and financial sector (+10) and transport, storage and comms (+9) – the only sectors above the national average.

• The Northern power-up? The North East (+9) and North West (+11) both saw optimism surge by 11 points, though Yorkshire and the Humber is still stuck in the doldrums on +4, a one point increase.

• Capitalism: London’s outlook rose one point to +9, continuing 2016 in the same vein as 2015. The South East is the best performing region on +12.

• Under-utilised: The Utilities sector slipped to +3, its lowest level in three years and 13 points down YoY.
