Many beginnings

Looking through the scant files currently held by Kyrenia Dramatic Society it can be seen that in1975 a number of people met and decided to put on three play readings, acted and in costume,to be directed by Dorothy Haile at Peter Line’s restaurant now called ‘The Grapevine’. The playswere written by the late Allan Cavender and directed by Dorothy Haile.It would appear that the drama scene was then silent as it not until 1987 that productions wereresumed when John Dooley directed ‘The Leper in the Temple’ by Geoffrey French, then a local,at ‘The Halk Evi’.This was followed in 1988 by two one act plays: ‘Huit Clos’ by John-Paul Satre and Ionescu’s ‘TheLesson’, directed by John Dooley and Dorothy Haile.The success of these productions appear to have resulted in the group being confidentenough to call the group KADS – the Kyrenia Amateur Dramatic Society.Since that time there have been the following productions:1989: ‘Mirandolina’ by Goldoni, directed by John Dooley and Dorothy Haile (this play was alsoperformed at the Nicosia Ataturk Cultural Centre); ‘Blythe Spirit’ by Noel Coward, directed by JohnDooley; ‘Aladdin’ a pantomime, directed by John Dooley.1990: ‘When we are Married’ by J. B. Priestley, directed by Dorothy Haile; ‘Lord Arthur Saville’sCrime’ by Constance Cox, directed by Dorothy Haile (also performed in Lefkosa for 3 nights).1991: ‘Hedda Gabler’ by Ibsen, directed by John Dooley; ‘Murder Deferred’ by Stuart Ready,directed by Dorothy Haile; ‘A Victorian Evening with KADS’.1992: ‘Separate Tables’ by Terence Rattigan, directed by Dottie Jowett; ‘Beyond the Bridge’ arevue.1993: ‘Dock Brief’ by John Mortimer, directed by Muriel Clutton; ‘A Fish out of Water’ by Peter D.Wilson (?), directed by Dottie Jowett; ‘Arms and the Man’ by Bernard Shaw, directed by JohnDooley.1994: ‘An Inspector Calls’ by J.
