FROM ME TO YOU…
Dear Friends and Families of Maple West,
It is hard to believe that parent teacher conferences are right around the corner. Night conferences will be held
on Thursday, November 16th from 4-8pm. There are also two early dismissal days scheduled for Friday November
17th and Monday, November 20th. Students are dismissed at 10:30am with parent pick up slated for 10:20am.
The JFK program will be here for students at dismissal time. If you are unable to attend a conference please let
us know and we can work out another time to meet.
I am sure conversations will focus on your child’s progress in the classroom socially as well as academically in
relation to the Common Core Standards. The New York State Education Department along with over forty states
have implemented the Common Core to unify standards across the country.
A reminder for parents of 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders
Sign up for the November parent teacher conferences for grades 3 and 4 will take place via the WITS system

Open Enrollment
Open enrollment provides an opportunity for students to attend schools within the Williamsville Central School District
outside of a student’s residential attendance area. Schools available for open enrollment during the following school year,
based primarily upon anticipated enrollments, is reviewed annually. If a school is expected to be near or at capacity, the
school may be “closed” to any students who reside outside the designated attendance area.
The Office of Student Services must receive written requests for open enrollment for the 2018-2019 school years by
February 1, 2018 for all school levels. Please contact your current school of attendance for more information, or call the
Office of Student Services at (716) 626-8007.
Special Notice…Title I Status
Maple West has been designated as a Title I School. Title I status is given to school if the
percentage of free and reduced lunch is greater than the district average. Our average was only
slightly above the district average.
Federal regulations require that parents in schools receiving federal education aide have the
right to know about the qualifications of teachers and para-professionals employed in that
school. All reading teachers and para-professionals employed at Maple West are highly
qualified under the federal guidelines.
If, in the future your child is taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher or para-
professional who is not highly qualified, you will be personally notified.
Questions about this notice can be directed to my office at 626-8840 or at my email address:
Thank You Dr. Galluzzo
Important Reminders from the Attendance Office…
Your child’s absence will be recorded as an UNEXCUSED ABSENCE
until our office receives a note from you explaining the reason for the
absence. Please send the note to our office on the day your child returns
to school.
Electronic notes via email CANNOT be accepted by the attendance
office as an excusal note for absence or tardiness. Signatures must be
non-electronic.
We also must have a signed excuse from a parent/doctor’s office for any
child who is late for school.

PTA PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:
Dear Maple West Families,
November is the month to be thankful and Maple West PTA has so much for which to be
thankful! We are thankful for our amazing faculty and staff, our supportive Maple West families
AND our army of committed volunteers who make all of our events and fundraisers possible. Thank
you!
In October, we loved seeing all the children looking “camera ready!” Thank you to the
Rebecca Greene for chairing our Fall Picture Day. We were also so excited to see over 625 people at
our Fall Ice Cream Social and Book Fair. A HUGE thank you to Lauren Hacket for the countless
hours that she committed to our Book Fair. Some of the funds we raised that night were used to
purchase a book for each classroom and Mr. Worthington was able to pick out $1,000 in books for the
library! Many thanks also to Jessica Kelly and Jennifer Peter for chairing a fun and delicious Ice
Cream Social! Thank you for organizing such a great event and thank you to all the hard working
teachers and volunteers who came out to scoop or sell tickets!
Halloween is always SO much fun for the students and staff at Maple West! Thank you also to
all the room parents who planned parties and parent volunteers who came to help! You all helped to
create lots of happy (and yummy!) Halloween memories.
So what’s up next? Later this month, all families will receive a copy of the Maple West
Directory. Thank you Jessica Kelly for the countless hours spent compiling this information! Also in
November, parents will have an opportunity meet with their child's teacher(s) at conferences. We
encourage all parents to take advantage of this valuable opportunity to learn about their child’s
education. On the Friday of parent teacher conferences, the PTA will provide a special lunch for the
teachers. Thank you to Nicole Klatman for organizing this luncheon and to all the parents for their
generous donations.
Please join us at our next PTA meeting on November 15th at 6:30 in the library. We will be
serving a complimentary dinner from Panera. Please RSVP to [email protected] by November
10th so we can order the correct amount of food. We have had a really tremendous turnout so far at
our meetings and we are so thankful to everyone that comes. We are here to take your questions,
implement your ideas, and most importantly be advocates for our children.
Happy Thanksgiving! ~ Sarah Smith-Ronan and Melissa Zeitz
