Dear Mapleview Families, As we begin the second half of the school year (that’s right, it is already the second semester), it is im- portant to stop and reflect on all that has been accomplished so far. Last week, parents and teachers had the opportunity to meet and discuss the academic, social, and emotional growth of Mapleview stu- dents so far this year. I hope you all found conferences worthwhile and came away with many celebra- tions for your children, as well as a few areas to continue to focus on. The first semester of grades are also in. I encourage all of you to take some time to go through your child’s progress report with him/her if you haven’t already. I emphasize this is a report of progress, ra- ther than final grades. Our staff is working on creating a culture of continuous improvement and we want the students to view their own learning in this way. As a staff, we are continually looking at what we can do to improve everything from instruction to school culture to curriculum. While we have a lot to be proud of, we also know there is always room for improvement. When reviewing your child’s progress report, celebrate the achievements. At the same time, discuss with your child the areas he/she can continue to improve. We have been very encouraged by the growth our students have made so far this year. However, we know there is still room for more improvement. We will continue to work towards helping every stu- dent improve as much as they can, no matter where they started the year. On another note, I am both excited and sad to share that I will be moving into a new position next school year. Beginning July 1st, I will move into my new role as the district’s Director of Student Im- provement. While I am excited about this new challenge, I am also sad knowing I will be leaving such a great school. Mapleview has been my school family for the past six years, and I could not have asked for a better place to work and learn. I will miss being at Mapleview and spending each day with the stu- dents, staff, and parents here. I am also pleased to announce Mr. Jason Nate will be your next Mapleview Principal. Mr. Nate had been an assistant principal at Kimberly High School for the past four years. I have gotten to know Mr. Nate well over the past few years, as we have worked on various projects and committees together. Mr. Nate was also a parent of two Mapleview students, so he is very familiar with this school. I am very excited that Mapleview will have Mr. Nate as principal. We are planning activities for later this school year so staff, students, and families can meet Mr. Nate. While changes are coming down the road, we still have a lot more work to do this year, so we will con- tinue to focus on helping our kids grow and learn. Dear Mapleview Families,

As we begin the second half of the school year (that’s right, it is already the second semester), it is im-portant to stop and reflect on all that has been accomplished so far. Last week, parents and teachers

had the opportunity to meet and discuss the academic, social, and emotional growth of Mapleview stu-dents so far this year. I hope you all found conferences worthwhile and came away with many celebra-

tions for your children, as well as a few areas to continue to focus on.

The first semester of grades are also in. I encourage all of you to take some time to go through your child’s progress report with him/her if you haven’t already. I emphasize this is a report of progress, ra-

ther than final grades. Our staff is working on creating a culture of continuous improvement and we want the students to view their own learning in this way. As a staff, we are continually looking at what

we can do to improve everything from instruction to school culture to curriculum. While we have a lot to be proud of, we also know there is always room for improvement. When reviewing your child’s

progress report, celebrate the achievements. At the same time, discuss with your child the areas he/she can continue to improve.

We have been very encouraged by the growth our students have made so far this year. However, we

know there is still room for more improvement. We will continue to work towards helping every stu-dent improve as much as they can, no matter where they started the year.

On another note, I am both excited and sad to share that I will be moving into a new position next school year. Beginning July 1st, I will move into my new role as the district’s Director of Student Im-

provement. While I am excited about this new challenge, I am also sad knowing I will be leaving such a great school. Mapleview has been my school family for the past six years, and I could not have asked for

a better place to work and learn. I will miss being at Mapleview and spending each day with the stu-dents, staff, and parents here.

I am also pleased to announce Mr. Jason Nate will be your next Mapleview Principal. Mr. Nate had been

an assistant principal at Kimberly High School for the past four years. I have gotten to know Mr. Nate well over the past few years, as we have worked on various projects and committees together. Mr.

Nate was also a parent of two Mapleview students, so he is very familiar with this school. I am very excited that Mapleview will have Mr. Nate as principal. We are planning activities for later this school

year so staff, students, and families can meet Mr. Nate.

While changes are coming down the road, we still have a lot more work to do this year, so we will con-tinue to focus on helping our kids grow and learn.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Mr. Schultz

Winter Walk to School Day

Community Events

Please be considerate of our Mapleview neighbors

when parking on the street to pick up your

child. We ask that people do not block driveways

when parked on the street. Thank you for your

cooperation.

There was such a great turnout for

our Walk to School Day in October

that we decided to have a winter

walk! It will be held Tuesday, Febru-

ary 13. We will plan to meet again at

Roosevelt Park at 7:00 a.m. and finish

the walk to school together. It might

be a chilly morning, so please dress

accordingly. The East Central Wis-

consin Safe Routes to School Program

provided us with some great winter

prizes of hats, blankets, headbands,

Subway gift cards and more.

Intramurals Intramurals basketball will

be wrapping up next week

with games against Wood-

land. On Wednesday, Feb-

ruary 7 the boys will be

traveling to Wood-

land. The girls will play at

Woodland on Thursday,

February 8. As the note

that came home stated, we

will be playing new games

every 10 minutes beginning

at 3:30. The team with the

best record from each

school will meet in the

championship game at

4:40. After signing out

with a Mapleview coach,

players can ride home with

their parents after all of the

games are done. The bus

will be back to Mapleview

at 5:15 for those who will

be picking up their child

there. Parents are encour-

aged to attend.

Good luck to our 5th and

6th grade Battle of the

Books team on February

19 when they compete

online with teams from

around the state!

Our 6th grade Bobcat

Coders will showcase their

work after school on Tues-

day, February 20 in the

LMC.

Permission slips for Chess

& Cribbage Club and 6th

grade Art Club were sent

home last week. Boys Vol-

leyball slips will come home

later this month. As al-

ways, thank you to our

students’ parents and our

coaches who make these

fun opportunities possi-

ble!

The K-Kids Secret Service wishes to thank

everyone for making this year's bake sale

at conferences a huge success! The money

raised becomes our "operating budget"

and will be used solely for service projects

over the next year. A special thanks to K-

Kids Secret Service members (and parents)

for donating their talents in preparing the

delicious dishes!!!

came to our Book Fair and to

all who helped make it a

great success, a big thank

you!

Keep on reading, and we’ll

see you at our next Fair!

Emergency Medication Please be aware that emergency medications that are provided for use during

the school day will not be accessible after school hours. Parents and students

plan ahead to have emergency medication available during after school activi-

ties such as clubs and sports. If an emergency arises and a student does not

have their emergency medication available, 911 will be called.

Bus Reminder

A note from Mr. Calmes:

If anyone has items that they would like to donate for use in my art classes,

please bring them into the office. If you are not sure if I will use particular

items, please contact me. I am always looking for people to donate items

from home or work. Thank you!

Art Supplies

Per Bus Policy, students who are NOT bus eligible are not allowed

to ride the bus to or from school with a bus eligible student.

A reminder to parents

that all attendance must go

through the Main Office in

advance. Please send a note

with your child, call the

office at 788-7910 to speak

to a secretary, or leave a

message on our attendance

line. The office will then

update your student’s at-

tendance in Infinite Cam-

pus. You may inform teach-

ers if you so choose, how-

ever, the Main Office

should be the initial contact

to avoid any unexcused

absences. You are able to

leave a message at any time

outside of our normal of-

fice hours (3:15 PM-7:00

AM).

Wisconsin’s school com-

pulsory law requires stu-

dents miss no more than

ten (10) days per school

year. Once a student has

missed ten or more days of

school a doctor’s note may

be required to excuse the

absence. Students who visit

the doctor due to an ex-

tended illness in advance of

the ten days are also en-

couraged to send a doc-

tor’s note to the Main Of-

fice excusing the ab-

sence. Absences excused

by a medical professional

generally do not count to-

ward a student’s ten day

maximum. If you have

questions regarding our

attendance policy or a

unique circumstance,

please contact Valerie

Schroeder, the Mapleview

Intermediate attendance

secretary.

In an effort to recognize students who are going above and beyond what is expected of them

at Mapleview Intermediate, “Faces in the Crowd” has been established. Once a month

students are nominated by their classroom or specials teachers and one student will be

chosen from each class throughout the school year.

February’s “Faces in the Crowd” are: Noah Sommer, nominated by Mr. Appleton; Gwen

Hughes, nominated by Mr. Schultz; Ximena Delgadillo, nominated by Mrs. Dagenais; and

Tommy Huynh, nominated by Mrs. Verbruggen.

MAPLEVIEW INTERMEDIATE P.B.I.S.

“POSITIVE BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTIONS AND SUPPORTS” February

The Bobcash drum was filled up to the line for the second quarter, so the students earned their second quarter incentive. On February 2nd Mapleview will celebrate the end

of the second quarter by rewarding the students with a dance with a DJ. The students who do not want to take part in the dance are able to play board games in the LMC.

Congratulations to all of those students for following the Bobcat expectations through-out the month of January…Keep up the great work in February!
