A downtown businessman has won over a seated president of the Racine’s city council. Keith Fair, 58, owner of the Place on Sixth bar at 509 Sixth St., defeated Jeff Coe for the 1st District aldermanic seat. The two, Fair and Coe, have faced off in the past, and Tuesday April 5, results showed Fair taking the seat, 332 votes to 306. Over the past decade the two political rivals have gone at it five consecutive time. This makes Fair's second term on the Racine City Council. Coe, the current Council president, had won twice against Fair and another time successfully challenged signatures on his nomination papers to remove him from the ballot. By phone Fair said that, "I entered this race because I believe we can accom- plish anything in Racine if we just work together. "While our community faces many challenges, we also share common goals - bringing transparency back to city government, reducing crime, and revitalizing the downtown business dis- trict to create real job opportunities for all." The district he will oversee includes the city's Downtown area as well as a large segment of midtown. The district is one of several majority minority district. If Fair’s election is not challenged by Coe, He will be sworn in and take his seat at the April 19th meeting of the common council, at 7:00 PM.
