March is Reading Month!! We hope that you will take some extra time to share your favorite fiction and informational books with your kiddos!
We are now half way through Marking Period 3! In Benchmark Unit 4, we have been reading fables while identifying how
stories change depending on who tells them.. In Eureka Math Module 5, we added and subtracted within 1000. In Social Studies, we have been studying Economics. We have been
analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of our choices when spending money.
For the remainder of this month, we will continue Unit 4 of Benchmark. In Eureka Math, we will finish Module 5 and begin
Module 6. We will begin our next Science Unit covering Biodiversity.

We will continue Unit 4, which focuses on the essential question, “How can a story change
depending on who tells it?”
Unit 4-Week 1:Reading: We will continue working on recounting story events and describing the overall structure of a story. We will also work on acknowledging differences in points of view of characters, describing how characters respond to major events and challenges, comparing and contrasting two folktales, and describing how words and phrases supply rhythm and meaning in a story.Phonics: We will work on the r-controlled vowel patterns, “or”, “oar”, and “ore`”Writing: We will read and analyze a mentor opinion essay and work on using adjectives correctly.
Unit 4-Week 2:Reading: We will continue working on the skills from week 1 while adding the comparison of the central messages of two stories. We will also identify real-life connections between words and their uses.Phonics: We will work on the r-controlled vowel patterns, “ear”, “eer”, and “ere`”Writing: We will begin writing our own opinion essays and work on forming and using contractions.
WHAT WILL WE BE LEARNING?
BENCHMARK READING & WRITING
During the first 2 ½ weeks of this month we will be completing Eureka
Module 5. Our end of module assessment will cover addition and
subtraction to 1,000 with word problems to 100. We will begin
Module 6 shortly after we return to “in person” learning.

Economics unit. We will complete the exploration of the essential question:
What are the consequences of
economic choices?
In Science, we will begin our Biodiversity and Humans unit. We
will:Make observations of plants and animals to
compare diversity of life in different habitats.
