Stations of the Cross: Sundays at 1:00 p.m. in Dacada; Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. in Little Kohler

Please join us for the Random Lake Area Ecumenical Lenten prayer services on Wednesdays during Lent at 7:00 p.m. at the following churches: March 29 at OLL; April 5 at Zion United Methodist (preceded by their annual Lasagna Dinner). All are welcome. If you can provide snacks or help with hospitality for the March 29 service here at OLL, please contact the parish office.

Baptism Class will be held on Tues., April 4 at 6:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Chapel. Register with Deb Hamm.

Learn more about the Catholic faith - Deb Hamm will begin meeting with two DSCS parents soon to begin the journey to become Catholic. If you are thinking about becoming Catholic, or are Catholic and would like to deepen your own faith, and would like to join them, please contact Deb. If you are not Catholic and just want to learn more about what we believe (but aren’t sure you want to become Catholic), that is fine. There will be no pressure placed upon you.

How are you doing with your Lenten journey? If you could use some more guidance, perhaps you could pick up an extra book from one of the libraries at our parishes. There are books in the Reading Room at Holy Cross Chapel and in the Community Room at Our Lady of the Lakes. There is no need to check them out. Simply borrow them and then return them.

SACRAMENTS/PRAYERS/NOTICES

SAINTLY FOOD FOR THOUGHT

St. John Climacus, Feast Day March 30

“Do not be surprised that you fall every day; do not give up, but stand your ground courageously. And assuredly, the angel who guards you will honour your patience.”

It’s the middle of Lent and many of us are working on our Lenten resolutions. Perhaps you have been making excellent strides, or maybe you are struggling with trying to stay true to your resolutions. Typically when we resolve to do something, or refrain from doing something negative, it is because we recognize that we are somehow lacking in our life - spiritually, mentally, or physically. It’s likely that we had a bad habit that we would like to change for the better. Kicking a habit, or developing a new habit, is often a difficult task because it has been so ingrained in our being and requires us to drastically change our lifestyle. Often times, we may find ourselves reverting back to our old habits and questioning whether it is even worth pursuing since we tend to fall in our pursuits. If we look at our falls as invitations to get up and try again, rather than a failure, we will be motivated to continue in our endeavors. Although Satan will always try to tempt us into going back to our old ways, we have to remember that we are not alone in our struggles. We must never forget to call upon our Guardian Angels, Mary and the saints, and the Blessed Trinity to help us along the way. With their help, hopefully our Lenten resolutions will continue all year! If you would like to learn more about this saint please visit https://www.ewtn.com/saintsHoly/saints/J/stjohnclimacus.asp

Bible quote: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and he will not depart from it.” - Proverbs 22:6

This is my 18th year working at DSCS and 5th year as the parish secretary. The best thing about working here is watching the children grow and learn and then seeing them again as successful mature adults. Both of my sons graduated from Divine Savior (Rosemary School). The quality education they received here has served them well in their continued fields of study and careers. With our blended family, my husband, Mark, and I have five children and 8 grandchildren. We love to travel together to see and learn about places we haven’t been before. Our two dogs have now passed away and we are left with our cat, Reese’s, who doesn’t like us very much. I think it’s time to get another dog.

Scriptures: 1 Samuel 16:1b,6-7,10-13a; Eph. 5:8-14; John 9:1-41

I’m sure the blind man in today’s Gospel was grateful for the gift of sight, but I’m not sure that he was prepared for the series of conflicts his healing brought into his life. His entire life changes in an instant. There’s nothing fun about begging, but there is comfort in the familiar. Being healed, he can no longer beg to fulfill his needs. He’s been blind from birth, has not developed job skills, and has no job. How will he support himself? And that is only part of his problem. People question him about what happened. If he is the former beggar, how was he healed? Was he lying about being blind in the first place? In which case, he would have been taking advantage of people who donated to his cause. Or perhaps his healer is sinful because he healed on the Sabbath…and on and on. This man finds himself telling the story of his healing repeatedly. Then, after he answers the Pharisees’ questions several times over, and explains his understanding of Jesus, they throw him out of the synagogue. This is doubly troubling for this man. Visiting the synagogue was something very dear to the Jews. Since the belief system at the time would have named him “unclean” because of his blindness, he would never have been allowed in the synagogue before. Now that he can see, he is allowed in briefly, but then the Pharisees throw him out when he tries to tell the good news of Jesus. He must have been heartbroken. And yet, he stands by his story and his belief in Jesus. This unnamed blind man in John’s Gospel becomes a disciple of Jesus and faces some harsh consequences for that decision. Are we willing to do the same? Do we have the courage to stand up for the Gospel, even when it costs us something dear to us? Do we stand up to injustice and oppression, even when it’s hard to do so? Are we willing to be truly Christian when conflict arises because of our beliefs? I am reminded of the comment I once heard: if it is easy to be a Christian, you aren’t really being one.

Let us all strive to have more of the blind man’s courage and be willing to risk much to follow Jesus and spread the Gospel. Deb Hamm, Pastoral Associate

As our Lenten journey continues at DSCS, our students and staff remain focused on prayer, service and fasting. At the start of Lent, our Lent committee presented the students with a bare cross and gave them a challenge! We have since been working to fill our Lenten Cross with good deeds in the form of flowers. At each weekly prayer service we have classes add the flowers they have earned for doing good deeds for others, fasting from words, thoughts or actions that may hurt others, and for performing one of the classroom fasting cards. Each week our cross grows more colorful because of our actions. By the end of Lent, we should have a beautiful Easter Cross to help us celebrate God’s saving action! Our students will be off this week Wednesday because the teachers need some important in-service time. We will review data as a staff, work on collaborating with the six-traits of writing in our classrooms, and continue our discussion of standards based grading. Our Learning Support Team will also begin writing our goals based on the accreditation assessment. Please pray for us as we undertake this essential work. DSCS is now enrolling for the 2017-18 school year! Mark your calendar for our second Play Date of the year- April 7. Students in 3K-5K can come to visit our classrooms to see what DSCS is all about. If you would like to join us, please contact the school office at 262-692-2141. We have a talented, caring, and dedicated staff ready to help your child grow both spiritually and academically. Our faith-based curriculum, small class sizes, and family atmosphere may be just what your child needs to reach his or her potential. We offer before and after school care and a summer care program for students enrolled at DSCS. Our tuition is also very affordable! Call the office to setup a tour. Yours in Faith, Lynn Sauer

Please consider saving aluminum cans for DSCS. We are collecting cans during Lent to raise money for Sister Jo and her mission work. Cans can be delivered to the school office.

Family Movie Night - at DSCS on Friday, March 31 at 6:00 p.m. Featuring “Pete’s Dragon”. Bring your own pillows, bean bag chairs, blankets, etc. for comfortable floor seating. Popcorn & drinks included. (Parents must stay with children.)

The last DSCS Fish Fry is on April 7. The all-you-can-eat Fish Fry is from 4:30-8:00 p.m. in the DSCS cafeteria.

DS SCRIP is sold before and after the 10:00 a.m. Mass on Sundays. It is also sold before school on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings if you enter Divine Savior School from the parking lot door.

Mark your calendars for the 5th Annual Beer and Wine Tasting at DSCS on April 29! Invites are in the mail.

CLUSTER HUMAN CONCERNS

The next movie, on March 28 at 6:00 p.m. in the OLL Community Room, is: Hotel Rwanda. Don Cheadle gives “the performance of a lifetime” in this remarkable and profoundly affecting true story of one man’s brave stance against savagery during the 1994 Rwandan conflict. Costarring Sophie Okonedo and Nick Nolte, Hotel Rwanda is the kind of film that can change the world.” As his country descends into madness, five-star-hotel manager Paul Ruseabagina sets out to save his family. But when he sees the world will not intervene in the massacre of minority Tutsis, he finds the courage to open his hotel to over 1,200 refugees. Now, with a rabid militia at the gate, he has only his wits and words to help him keep them alive another hour…another day. PG-13. Violence, disturbing images and brief strong language. 2 hours, 2 minutes.

MOVIES WITH MEANING

Youth and Adult participants go because they want to join thousands of other Catholic teens in celebrating their faith, share values and experiences and recognize their role in the Catholic Church. Past participants share that they enjoyed the speakers (who they hear/see on DVD in class) and were excited to be part of something big (24,000 catholic teens and adults in Lucas Oil Stadium). If you would like to be part of this transformative experience, request a registration form from your Youth Minister. For more information visit www.archmil.org/NCYC or Linda Guokas. The deadline for signing up is May 10, 2017. The initial deposit is $100. Total cost for youth currently in 8th-11th grades is $575.

NCYC

From April 2-10, we will be taking nominations for new Pastoral Council members. You must be a par ishioner to make nominations. You will be asked to write your name on the nomination form, along with your nominations, but your name will not be shared with those you nominate. Each parishioner can nominate up to 10 people. Please spend some time between now and then prayerfully considering names of those who would be good leaders for our cluster parishes. You can nominate yourself if you are interested in serving.

Capital Campaign - Thanks to all who have already pledged. Please pray about how important your faith is to you and be generous in your response to the redecoration project. We are looking for a few people who would like to help raise funds by forming a committee to reach out to our parishioners and local businesses. If interested, please contact the parish office.

The mission of Divine Savior Parish is to use all the means God has given us to be a life-giving example of Christ’s love in our

community and beyond. In cooperation with the global Catholic Church and the

Archdiocese of Milwaukee, we accomplish this through prayer, frequent celebration

of the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist, study and sharing of our faith,

service to all, and by providing our children with Catholic roots deeply embedded in

faith in God.

The mission of Divine Savior Catholic School is to provide an environment for

children to excel personally, academically and spiritually. Together we share in the

mission of Divine Savior Parish to foster a faith-filled community where Catholic

values are learned through prayer, service and love. Our goal is to use these values

to develop lifelong learners and compassionate leaders.

The mission of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Congregation is to be a life-giving sign of Christ’s love, justice, and peace in our area of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, through the celebration of the sacraments,

especially the Eucharist, community prayer, spiritual reflection, and a commitment of

service to God’s people.
